Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 231: Acting Cute Is Shameful
Ruby Sullivan’s face changed. Although Mr. Sterling had a penchant for flirting lately, she still wasn’t used to his occasional unexpected remarks. What happened to his cold-blooded, robotic persona?
"Just wait outside, you can’t help here anyway."
Ethan Sterling took off his jacket and placed it aside. "I can be your assistant." He said, picking up a knife and began making motions with the half-cut tomatoes on the cutting board.
Ruby Sullivan turned her head to see his knife-wielding posture and felt a bit uneasy. "Mr. Sterling, there’s no braised pig’s trotters on the menu tonight. You’d better go out."
Ethan Sterling was helpless, so he put down the knife. "Alright then..." he said, walking over slowly, wrapping his arms around her from behind. When she froze and hadn’t yet reacted defensively, he exhaled comfortably and said, "I’m sorry, Ms. Sullivan, I just missed you a bit."
After saying that, he released her and walked out slowly, calling in the housekeeper.
Mama Bennett entered the kitchen and immediately commented on the odd smell, "Second Miss, is this eggplant burnt?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Ruby Sullivan jolted, finally realizing she had been completely stunned just now. She quickly stirred the sticky pot bottom and plated the dish.
This Ethan Sterling, what kind of spell is on him lately? Hmph, he’ll eat this burnt eggplant box!
Even though she’d been keeping herself busy all afternoon, in every idle moment, she couldn’t help but think of her father’s words and felt a bit wronged. However, Ethan’s affectionate words seemed to lighten her mood a bit. Staring at the eggplant box that didn’t look too good, she couldn’t help but chuckle after her little internal rant.
Meanwhile, outside, Ethan Sterling heard Mama Bennett’s scolding just now and felt a little smug.
At dinner time, a servant called out outside Brandon Sullivan’s room, waited a moment, then the two little ones emerged from the room.
Honey sat next to her dad, resting her worried little head on his arm, "Grandpa said he doesn’t want to eat. What do we do about that?"
Seth Sterling walked over slowly and said insightfully, "I think Grandpa is just sulking. If Honey and I bring dinner in and eat with him, he seems quite happy to see us."
Honey hugged her dad and pouted, "But Honey wants to eat with Daddy." In her heart, her dad was still more important than her mom’s dad.
Ethan Sterling was very pleased and lifted his daughter into his arms, "Good girl."
Seth’s brow twitched, feeling that as a primary school student, he shouldn’t be so clingy with his parents anymore, "Then I’ll go eat with Grandpa."
Just then, Ruby Sullivan came out of the kitchen with the last dish and saw the three of them arguing, so she walked over to ask what was going on. After listening to Ethan Sterling’s explanation, she also put on a stern face, "He can be mad, but I can’t? If he doesn’t want to eat, then don’t. Mama Bennett said he ate too much at lunch anyway. Besides, skipping dinner is healthy."
Ruby Sullivan spoke loudly, deliberately trying to let Brandon Sullivan hear.
Mama Bennett said that Brandon Sullivan’s temper was like an old child these days and should be pampered, but from a mother’s perspective, she thought a disobedient child needed discipline, so she decided to stand firm this time in front of her father.
Seth and Honey exchanged glances, feeling that mom’s anger was a bit over the top.
Honey immediately slid off her dad’s lap, ran over to mom, and hugged her leg, "Mom, don’t be mad. Grandpa’s just in a bad mood. If I and brother eat with him, he’ll eat obediently."
Ruby Sullivan winked at her and whispered, "Don’t worry, mom will save grandpa some food and let him eat when he wants to." Then she deliberately called out towards her father’s room, "Let’s go, let’s eat. Mom made your favorite braised pork; it’s so fragrant."
Brandon Sullivan in the room swallowed hard and huffed, "Trying to trick me into coming out? Impossible! Silly child, doesn’t even know when she’s being tricked! The Sullivan Group is my life’s work, I can’t let it be taken away like that!"
Until Ruby Sullivan and Ethan Sterling went back to their room to sleep, Brandon Sullivan still hadn’t come out. However, Ruby Sullivan instructed the servants to save his food, all stored in airtight containers in the fridge. If he wanted to eat, they could heat it up for him.
So after they went upstairs, Mama Bennett, being the elder in the house, went to knock on his door and asked, and after confirming Ethan and Ruby had returned to their room, Brandon finally opened the door, "Heat it up and bring it to my room."
"Yes, sir." Mama Bennett turned to get busy, feeling reassured. Isn’t he just like a child?
Honey couldn’t resist eating more cooling braised pork that evening, worried she might end up in the hospital, so Ethan Sterling had her lie down and started to rub her belly.
"Will having Daddy rub it mean I won’t need to go to the hospital?" Honey felt her dad’s hand was quite magical, as every rub on her stomach made her feel sleepier.
Ethan Sterling smiled, "To be exact, Honey wouldn’t be in the hospital because of eating too much braised pork, but because the meat wasn’t digested. With Dad rubbing your stomach, it can speed up your digestion, but you should still eat less braised pork; it’s not very good for your body."
Honey listened, half-understanding, but still nodded, "Daddy, if Honey died, would you miss me?"
Ethan Sterling was startled, "Don’t say such things, Honey, you haven’t grown up yet. You’re not going to die."
Honey smiled and didn’t continue the topic, "Daddy, I’m sleepy." She thought her dad would miss her, as only people who didn’t want her to die would say such things, like mom and brother, and it made her very happy.
"Okay." Ethan Sterling tucked her in, "Goodnight, sweetheart." After saying that, he kissed her forehead and turned off the light before leaving the room.
When he returned to the room, Ruby Sullivan was reading a thick management book, "Are you feeling a bit challenged by your dad?"
"Yeah." Ruby Sullivan finished marking her notes in the book and looked at him, "Can I save up the parts I don’t understand and ask you later?"
While speaking, Ethan Sterling had already gotten into bed and glanced at her notes, "How about... you come to the company as my assistant? I’ll lend Howard to manage the company, and you can take over Howard’s work. How does that sound?"
"No, no, I already said, I want to spend some time with my dad during this period."
Ethan Sterling pursed his lips, his eyes seeming to say, are you sure he needs your company?
He closed her book with a flick of his hand, "Aren’t you the one who least likes forcing yourself to do things? If you’re not interested in management, don’t push it. With that time, you could study perfumes. Who knows how much money you could make from it? Why go against yourself?"
Ruby Sullivan leaned against the headboard, staring at the ceiling, her mind filled with Brandon Sullivan’s reproach and dissatisfaction, "I’m wondering, did dad always cater to me because he never had any expectations of me?" With no expectations, he wouldn’t think she was an unworthy daughter or expect her to manage the company, because of Rhonda.
Ethan Sterling gently turned her head and gave her a kiss, "Worrying too much will make you age."
Ruby Sullivan bristled and glared at him, "Mr. Sterling, don’t you think you’ve been overstepping your bounds lately?"
Ethan Sterling blinked innocently, "Ms. Sullivan, I sleep beside you every night, afraid you’d be annoyed if I even hugged you a little. Do you know how hard it is for me to hold back? Overstepping? Where are the boundaries?" he asked dramatically, lifting the quilt and starting to search.
Ruby Sullivan’s eyebrow twitched, so, was Mr. Sterling... acting cute?
