Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 225: You Mean a Lot to Me
During dinner, Brandon Sullivan ate only a little bit before returning to his room. Mama Bennett said he hadn’t come out of the room all afternoon except to use the bathroom. Ruby Sullivan, very worried, also barely ate anything before leaving the table to check on her father.
She knocked on the door and only entered when she heard a "come in".
Brandon Sullivan was wearing reading glasses and reading a book, one by Ethan Sterling, a history of the world published by the BBC. The old man loved it and would always pick it up when he was alone to pass the time.
"Dad," Ruby Sullivan called out with a smile, "why did you eat so little?" She sat down by the bed and observed his expression.
Brandon Sullivan’s expression was as before, showing no sign of joy or anger, nor any hint of improvement. Instinctively, Ruby Sullivan sighed, perhaps not even realizing how much she wished her father could return to his old self.
He closed the book and said, "Ruby, let’s go home." He spoke in a pleading tone, "I don’t like it here."
"We’ll head back first thing in the morning," Ruby Sullivan still wasn’t sure how to explain this to Honey.
If Brandon Sullivan insisted on going back home, then she had to follow him. Of course, she would take Honey and Seth with her, but there were no servants there, and she could only transfer some from The Sterling Family. And what about Ethan Sterling?
If she allowed him to come along, they were already divorced.
But if she didn’t let him come, the two children would face losing their father once more... Ruby Sullivan thought over and over, gave herself a headache, and sighed again.
"Why do you dislike Ethan Sterling so much?" She remembered that he used to just not quite like the man, always worrying she’d get wronged in their marriage, but since they got married, her father had always sincerely supported Ethan Sterling. Why the change now?
Through talking with her father, she realized he simply lost the memory of the day he had the stroke; nothing else had changed. He also knew she and Ethan Sterling were married, and this dislike really puzzled her.
Brandon Sullivan frowned, "He’s not good to you."
Ruby Sullivan was stunned and awkwardly asked, "He’s quite nice to me, who said he’s not good to me?"
Brandon Sullivan sighed too, looking at his daughter with pain in his eyes. "I know you’ve always lied to me, afraid I’d worry. Your sister told me everything." He paused and his eyes misted over, becoming indescribably melancholic, "She said you’ve always slept in separate rooms, that’s why you don’t have kids. My dear daughter, you’ve been wronged for so many years."
He rubbed Ruby Sullivan’s head, his lips trembling, and tears fell again.
Ruby Sullivan’s heart was filled with mixed emotions. Not wanting to upset her father further, she could only suppress all her feelings, holding his hand and comforting him, "We’ve reconciled a long time ago, look how big Honey and Seth have grown, right?"
Brandon Sullivan frowned, seeming to not believe her words and stubbornly said, "Let’s go home, it’s more comfortable at our place."
"Okay, I’ll listen to you." Ruby Sullivan took a tissue and wiped his tears, "Is there anything else you’d like to eat? I’ll make it for you."
Brandon Sullivan shook his head, "I’m not hungry, I just... want to go home, I’m worried about your sister, worried about you." His voice choked up as he spoke, covering his eyes with his own tissue, "I’ve owed your sister too much."
Ruby Sullivan sighed, not wanting to argue with the old man about these things. She knew that whatever he owed to Rhonda, she had more than made up for with her own daughter’s love.
"Alright, stop overthinking, since you don’t feel like eating, just wash up and sleep early."
"Okay." Brandon Sullivan nodded obediently, like a child again.
Ruby Sullivan left his room, her heart heavy, and lay on her bed in a daze. Soon, she heard the door open, turned her head, and saw Honey and Seth coming in.
The two little ones ran over and climbed onto the bed, sitting in front of her, each calling out "Mom."
"You’re full?" Ruby Sullivan smiled, turning on her side and holding a pillow under her arm, looking at them with her head propped on one hand.
Honey smiled, "Mom, I learned a new song at kindergarten today, do you want to hear it?"
Her daughter’s childish voice was truly healing, but she was really tired now and didn’t really want to hear her daughter sing, yet she still mustered the patience to nod.
Then Honey began to sing the song about a little duck learning to swim. Seth snuggled up to her, letting her rest properly, and began to gently tap her back, asking softly if it felt good.
Ruby Sullivan realized she had been so numb lately. Only now did she see the two little ones’ intentions. They hadn’t come to seek their mom’s praise; instead, they had noticed her bad mood and wanted to lift it.
Thinking about this, Ruby Sullivan felt her heart warm, yet slightly guilty.
When Honey finished singing, she clapped her hands, "Honey sang so well, all of Mom’s tiredness disappeared after hearing you."
Honey giggled, feeling a bit proud, "I knew my song was magical."
Ruby Sullivan also asked her son to stop, gradually sat up, and holding their little hands, said, "Grandpa’s mood hasn’t been good recently, he’s not used to living here and wants to go back to the original house, so we might have to move again."
"Will Dad come?" As expected, Honey’s first concern was whether Dad would come along.
Ruby Sullivan didn’t want to lie to her daughter either, "Mom hasn’t discussed it with Dad yet, um... it’ll depend on his opinion." For her daughter, she was willing to ask Ethan Sterling.
"Dad will definitely want to come with us," Honey said confidently.
"I want to be with mom," Seth also stated his stance.
Ruby Sullivan patted the kids’ heads, "You’re both Mom’s good treasures. I’ll do my best to ensure your lives aren’t affected. But Vivian and your aunt definitely won’t come along, and as for the servants, Mama Bennett should come with us. The others, is there anyone you’d like to bring?"
The two kids exchanged looks, and Seth said, "We’ll think about it then."
Ruby Sullivan nodded, "Alright, just let Mom know by tomorrow morning."
Not long after the children left, Ethan Sterling came in, as if he had intentionally left time for her to be with the children.
Ruby Sullivan, realizing she needed to talk to him, sat cross-legged on the bed, "Can I borrow a few minutes of your time?"
"Is it about the move?" Ethan Sterling guessed instantly.
Yet it wasn’t surprising to Ruby Sullivan that he guessed, "Are you coming too? It might be a bit inconvenient."
"Moving is a small matter," Ethan Sterling paused and continued, "There’s something you might not know."
Ruby Sullivan looked at him, waiting quietly for him to continue.
"When you weren’t around, I suffered from severe insomnia. You are... very important to me." Ethan Sterling exhaled deeply, finally expressing the words buried inside, "Don’t worry, I’ll handle the move." He then turned to grab his change of clothes, preparing to take a shower, slightly lacking the confidence to keep facing her bewildered stare.
