Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Ruby Sullivan’s Breakdown

Ethan shook his head, seeing her crying incessantly, he tried to comfort her in a deliberately calm manner, "It’s all right, it’s all right."

Ruby didn’t know why she suddenly felt so frightened, she watched as Ethan’s face changed drastically, for a moment, she thought Rhonda was really going to strangle him to death!

After being knocked down, Rhonda got up to attack once more but was subdued by the timely arrival of the male caregivers. She was immediately bound and taken away, while the elder Mr. Sullivan began crying and shouting, wanting to chase after her but was restrained as well.

Rhonda kept her eyes fixed on Ruby and Ethan, her murky eyes seemed to harbor feelings, and that feeling was hate.

Ruby turned to look at her emotionally unstable father, "Dad, calm down!"

"They took your sister away." Brandon held onto his younger daughter’s hand, crying like a child, anxious beyond measure, "They took your sister away."

"Dad, don’t worry, they’re doctors, there’s no need to worry." The more she tried to comfort him, the more suffocating it felt, tears kept uncontrollably falling.

Why did her dad forget so many things yet still remembered Rhonda, the elder daughter he was so worried about had taken his company and almost killed his biological daughter, why didn’t he know about these things?

Ruby suddenly couldn’t keep comforting him, she shook off his hand and retreated a few steps, looking at his hysteria with disappointment, "Dad, are you out of your mind? Can you remember how Rhonda took the company and almost killed me back then! She’s not worth your concern, do you know that?"

Brandon was stunned by his younger daughter’s yelling, cried even more sadly, his lips trembling, muttering constantly, yet it wasn’t clear what he was saying.

Ethan held the out-of-control Ruby, gestured for the caregivers to first take Brandon away.

Ruby hid in his embrace, hugging him tightly, crying out loud.

Brandon was a big fool! If he hadn’t brought Rhonda home back then, there wouldn’t have been so many tragedies now, wouldn’t! He forgot everything, only remembering what he wanted to remember, what about her, what should she do? Why should all the pain be hers to bear?

Ethan gently rubbed her back, soothing her softly, "Cry, you’ll feel better after you let it all out."

Ruby cried until she was done, then came out from his embrace, looking up at him, blinking her tear-soaked eyes and questioned, "Why didn’t you resist when Rhonda was choking you?" Rhonda could be stronger but she’s still a woman, she could see Ethan just didn’t intend to fight back, otherwise, he wouldn’t have ended up so battered.

"If you hadn’t rushed in to intervene, I planned to deliberately fall to the ground." In that situation, it was the best way he could think of to make Rhonda let go.

Ruby frowned, noticing he was avoiding the real issue, not actually answering her question, she glared at him without saying a word.

Ethan gave a bitter smile, feeling that her fierce expression was quite charming, he awkwardly turned his head to suppress the impulse to kiss her, speaking with difficulty, "I was afraid of hurting your father." Brandon almost rushed up at the same time, in that situation, he couldn’t be sure of controlling his own strength, if he hurt Brandon, she would surely be very upset.

Ruby saw the scratches on his face and neck, knowing they were caused by her father’s panic, feeling somewhat guilty, she pursed her lips unsure of what to say, pondering for a long time, only managed to say "I’m sorry."

"Silly, what are you sorry for?"

"My dad did it, if I don’t say sorry, who will?" She muttered, lowered her head, suddenly found the two of them too intimate, instinctively loosened her grip and stepped back a few steps, withdrew from his embrace.

Ethan was a little helpless, "It’s okay."

They were no longer family, aside from accepting apologies, he really had nothing else to say.

Brandon’s intelligence had merely regressed, forgotten some things, he hadn’t turned into an idiot. Under the doctors’ soothing, he soon regained a sense of rationality, became calm by the time Ruby and Ethan appeared.

But he still showed no kindness to Ethan, even a bit hostile, pulling Ruby to his side and urging her to stay away from Ethan.

"Ruby, what happened to your sister?" Brandon anxiously looked at his younger daughter. Despite the doctors and nurses continuously explaining Rhonda’s situation to him several times, he didn’t believe them, the only thing he admired now was his younger daughter’s words.

Ruby didn’t take it to heart, patiently explained, "Dad, my sister was a little mentally stimulated, but the doctors and nurses here are very good, they’ll cure her, don’t worry."

"Mad?" Brandon seemed crushed by the final straw, a touch of despair in his voice.

Ruby nodded, "Dad, did you remember anything?" She looked into her father’s eyes, feeling that after such chaos, Brandon’s gaze seemed more focused than before, no longer just the cloudy daze.

Brandon shook his head, frowned, "I’m tired, daughter, let’s go home, back to The Sullivan Family, shall we?"

Ruby felt a bit troubled, not because she didn’t want to return, but The Sullivan Family had been vacant for so long, previously it was always Rhonda living there, she didn’t know what it had become now.

She could only explain to her father, "Let’s first go to The Sterling Family today, I’ll have someone clean up in the afternoon, once it’s ready, we’ll move back, okay?"

He nodded, obediently followed out of the hospital and got into Ethan’s car.

Perhaps due to his bad mood, Brandon ate only a little lunch before returning to his room, Ruby went to check on him as she was concerned, he was already asleep.

Only now could Ruby feel relieved, as she was leaving his room, she encountered Cindy coming out, their eyes met, she smiled briefly, but Cindy avoided her gaze before she could speak.

"Don’t mind me." Cindy bluntly said as she passed by.

Ruby frowned, feeling puzzled, even if she wasn’t her sister-in-law, they were friends before, why after her face was ruined, did she start hating her?

Ethan heard their conversation, worried she might be upset, came over to pat her shoulder, "Tired, take a nap."

Ruby nodded, went back to the room with him.

As she lay on the bed, she continued contemplating about Cindy, turning over several times wanting to ask him but held back seeing his weary expression.

Ethan sensed her restlessness, raised a hand to rub her scalp, "Sleep."

"Hmm." Though Ruby replied, her mind continued muttering, yet Ethan’s fingers seemed magical, soon made her sleepy, only slept an hour but very peacefully.

The two went to their respective companies in the afternoon to handle work, Ruby looking at the piles of documents, still felt she had no talent in managing a company, really wished Howard would come back.
