Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 177: Pretending to Be Reluctant
"Mr. Sullivan’s condition is quite good here. Although he has been in a coma for five years, he hasn’t shown signs of muscle atrophy, and there’s no internal infection. While there’s been no sign of brain activity, the possibility of him waking up still exists."
The doctor briefly explained Brandon Sullivan’s situation. "Now that you’ve come to Meridia, I suggest you visit him more often and chat with him. In his condition, hearing your voice more frequently could increase the likelihood of his waking up."
Ruby Sullivan nodded. "I moved to Meridia specifically to visit him frequently." She thought for a moment and couldn’t help but ask, "Doctor, do you remember my father’s condition when he first transferred here? Due to some special reasons, I wasn’t by his side for five years, so... I want to know what his condition was before."
"Hold on a moment." The doctor pulled up Brandon Sullivan’s medical records on the computer, "He was transferred from Mercy Hospital in Celestia. He had already been in a coma for five years before arriving. When he first came, aside from some intestinal infection, there were no significant changes." He paused and continued, "Actually, he was well cared for at Mercy Hospital, otherwise, it would be impossible for him not to have muscle atrophy over five years. While our hospital has many cases of patients waking up, it doesn’t rely much on medical skills. It depends on the patient’s will to survive and family cooperation. Perhaps the only thing more advanced than in Celestia is that we can better ensure the patient doesn’t experience complications during their coma, or handle complications better."
"That’s very important." Ruby Sullivan thanked the doctor with a smile and left the office.
She only knew that all the matters concerning her father’s hospitalization were managed by Ethan Sterling, but Mercy Hospital didn’t have nurses specialized in caregiving like this hospital does, so it must have been specially arranged.
Walking down the hallway, she suddenly recalled the time Ethan used the excuse of taking her on a honeymoon to come to the hospital. Could it be that he really wanted to take her father back for her convenience in taking care of him?
Back then, she thought he was after The Sullivan Group and wasn’t willing to hand over shares under threat. But now, she already knew he wasn’t that eager about The Sullivan Group, so...
Ruby Sullivan walked slower and slower, many thoughts vying in her mind, startled by the sudden sound of her phone ringing.
Seeing it was Ethan Sterling, she immediately thought of the time over there. "Not asleep yet?"
Ethan Sterling chuckled, not expecting her first question to be this, his mind flashing back to scenes when they first started living together.
He was accustomed to drinking a bit of red wine before sleeping, yet she would always frown and say, hurry up to bed, don’t affect my beauty sleep.
"Hello?"
Her voice pulled Ethan Sterling back to reality. "About to. I just wanted to ask if you’d like to come back for Miss Finn’s wedding. I’ve received the invitation sent by her grandfather and thought it best to attend with you."
They hadn’t announced their divorce to the public yet, and at such an occasion, Ethan appearing alone would be awkward.
Ruby Sullivan finally understood, "I don’t really want to go back. The kids are about to start school. If Seth goes to elementary school, taking too many days off wouldn’t be ideal. Leaving them behind makes me uneasy."
Ethan Sterling paused for a moment, "I can have Jessica come over to help for a few days."
Hearing this, Ruby Sullivan felt her chances of declining weren’t high. Ultimately, Ethan could send someone to drag her back.
She sighed, "Do I have to appear?"
"It’s best, not necessary." He paused, "Actually, I hope you bring the kids back. Vivian misses them. But Honey’s health isn’t suitable for much travel, and what you said about school makes sense."
"If I don’t go back, will it be difficult for you?" Ruby Sullivan still didn’t want to agree. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Ethan Sterling’s lips twitched, her conflicted expression already appearing in his mind. Pretending to be pitiful, he sighed, "Previously, at Naomi Sinclair’s birthday party, I made quite a scene, and many seniors already have opinions of me. If you don’t appear this time, my reputation will only get worse. You know this circle isn’t big; you never know who you’ll collaborate with next. But if you truly don’t want to return, that’s fine."
Ruby Sullivan furrowed her brow, somewhat swayed, thinking for a long time before she sighed, "I’ll... try to go back." She hung up the call, resigned to the thought that this was all for the company’s future. The company needs prospects for her to have a secure future.
However, after the call, she suddenly felt the need to work. If she always relied on Ethan Sterling for money, what if one day he stopped providing? Wouldn’t she be starving?
After all, although divorce settlements are protected by law, if the other party refuses to comply, there’s not much that can be done.
She returned to the ward where Seth and Honey were excitedly chatting with their grandfather.
Seeing her return, Honey happily turned and said, "Mom, I was just telling Grandpa about Dad. If Grandpa knew how handsome Dad was, he’d surely like him a lot too."
Ruby Sullivan forced a smile, thinking, back then, his father wasn’t very approving of the marriage, thinking his daughter marrying such a handsome man might suffer losses. If it weren’t for the elder Mrs. Sterling’s promise and her insistence on marrying him, he wouldn’t have considered that man.
"Yes, Grandpa likes Dad too." Ruby Sullivan swallowed all the discomfort, not wanting to shatter her daughter’s bright image of her father.
Then, she sat down and talked with her father about many things, from leaving The Sterling Family to her life in Bellaza, until lunchtime. When the nurse came to administer his nutritional fluid, she left with the children.
She hadn’t told them about returning to the country yet, as there was still some time. She wanted to wait until Seth’s school was settled before deciding whether to take them back.
In the evening, she received a call from Leon Sterling, saying he’d soon come to Meridia to see her.
Ruby Sullivan assumed he had work in Meridia, so she didn’t mention returning home and laughed, saying she’d pick him up.
After hanging up, Leon Sterling was delighted because he had already decided to temporarily settle in Meridia, with no big ambitions, only wanting to conveniently take care of her.
During breakfast, Leon Sterling mentioned his departure. Emma, standing on her brother’s side in this matter, intentionally said to him after he spoke, "Second brother isn’t going back to Gallia, he’s going to Meridia."
Leon Sterling gave her a stern look.
Emma stuck out her tongue, continued eating with an innocent look.
He didn’t mind, as he planned to tell Ethan Sterling anyway.
Ethan Sterling saw his determined silence, with a stern face, barely frowning, and nonchalantly said, "Ruby will be returning home for a friend’s wedding. Did you tell her in Meridia?" His ’trying not to smile’ expression was clearly provocative.
