Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Whose Idea

Dina Finn took a moment to gather herself, then smacked Naomi Sinclair on the head, "There are so many interesting things in life, why waste your time on men? Your head’s full of crap."

Naomi Sinclair, caught off guard by the slap, felt a bit dizzy and retorted, "Stop hitting my head, okay? I don’t know if there’s crap in there, but the doctor says it’s easy to damage, and I’m not even supposed to shake it too hard."

Dina Finn paused, "Sorry."

Naomi Sinclair glanced at her, grinning mischievously, "Oh, I was just messing with you, can’t hurt me." She laughed and took a sip of her drink, continuing the earlier topic, "You don’t like men, so of course you don’t understand what’s interesting about them."

She had too many casual flings, which posed no challenge. She wanted to genuinely engage her heart but, truth be told, she didn’t really know how.

"Forget it, if I can’t handle it, I won’t. There are so many men; there’s no need for me to bore myself." She glanced at her phone, calculated the time in Novaniel, and figured Ruby Sullivan should be waking up soon, "You should invite Wenny to the wedding, I promised Ethan Sterling to help him with this."

Dina Finn raised an eyebrow, "What’s his deal? Always restless over what he can’t have?"

"Who knows, don’t they say the things you can’t have are the best?" She leaned on the bar, pondering, thinking this statement made sense; otherwise, why else would she casually think Leon Sterling was unbelievably handsome?

Handsome when he smiles, handsome when he’s angry, even more handsome when he’s seriously painting. Not having him would be to die unfulfilled.

She pursed her lips and sighed.

Dina Finn pulled out her phone, found Ruby Sullivan’s contact on WeChat, but hesitated on whether to call or not, "Helping Ethan Sterling—isn’t this aiding the wrongdoer?"

"Wenny is smart. If she wants to come back, it only proves she also has doubts about Ethan Sterling, so it’s not aiding the wrongdoer. If she doesn’t want to come back, no matter how much you persuade her, she won’t, so it’s still not aiding the wrongdoer." Naomi Sinclair explained logically.

Actually, she also wanted Ruby Sullivan to come back, hoping to ask her in person about the big challenge of how to genuinely engage in relationships.

Although Dina Finn thought Naomi Sinclair was talking nonsense, she did kind of miss Wenny, so she dialed the video call, and it took a while to connect.

"Hi," Ruby Sullivan greeted with a smile, looking like life was treating her quite well.

Hearing her voice, Naomi Sinclair leaned over and waved at her.

Dina Finn asked cheerfully, "I’ve set the date. Do you want to come back to see me get married?"

"Huh?" Ruby Sullivan was a bit taken aback, not quite processing it; surely Dina Finn didn’t need her red envelope, nor was she the type to make polite requests like this, "You’re not joking?" For a wedding that really didn’t need blessings, asking her to leave her two kids and fly back from across the ocean seemed unlikely.

Dina Finn frowned and tilted her head towards Naomi Sinclair, "Should I tell the truth or not? You decide."

Ruby Sullivan squinted her eyes, thinking this kind of dialogue made sense.

Naomi Sinclair took the phone, embarrassedly laughing, "I want an excuse to see Charles, Ethan Sterling had Dina send you an invite in exchange, sorry."

Ruby Sullivan laughed, "It’s okay. So, I’ve received Dina’s invitation. Is there anything else?"

"Are you really not coming back to take a look? If you don’t, you’ll never see me in a wedding dress." Dina Finn actually wanted her to come back too; she didn’t have many friends, and even if this wedding was just an act for her, having friends around would make her happy.

"I’ll think about it," Ruby Sullivan did not directly refuse.

Dina Finn nodded, "I’d be very happy if you came back."

"Me too." Naomi Sinclair squeezed her smiling face onto the screen.

After hanging up, Ruby Sullivan propped her chin in her hand, somewhat puzzled. Did Ethan Sterling want her to come back too, or... did he miss the kids?

"Mom, are we leaving?" Honey had already packed her little backpack, ready to go.

Seth stood next to her, waiting for her too.

She smiled, "Let’s go."

They planned to visit their grandpa in the hospital today; after spending some time in Meridia, they finally sorted out most of the troublesome issues, with only Seth’s school left unresolved, but this couldn’t be rushed.

The community Ruby Sullivan lived in was very close to the hospital, just a ten-minute drive.

The white Chevrolet she drove had been prepared by Ethan Sterling, who had arranged her life here considerately and thoughtfully.

Thinking of Dina Finn’s words, she frowned momentarily, then thought of Howard by Ethan’s side, and breathed a sigh of relief, muttering to herself, "Focus on driving, stop overthinking."

It wasn’t long before the car stopped at the hospital, and with a child in each hand, she registered at the front desk and headed to her father’s ward.

After The Sullivan Family’s incident, this was her second time seeing her father.

Brandon Sullivan lay quietly in bed, looking like he was asleep. Although the costs here were high, the nurses were very professional, taking care of not just meals and hygiene, but also providing regular muscle massages to prevent atrophy and bedsores for immobile patients.

Brandon Sullivan was very well cared for here, his complexion noticeably better than when he was back home.

"Honey, Seth, this is your grandpa." Ruby Sullivan softly introduced, "Dad, these are your two grandchildren, and if you were awake, you’d surely like them."

Honey, not knowing what a vegetative state was, whispered, "Mom, is Grandpa sleeping? Will we wake him up by being here?"

Ruby Sullivan explained, "Grandpa is asleep, but he’s in a very, very long dream, and we, who are awake, need to call him awake, so you have to talk to him more to wake him up."

"That sounds easy." Honey leaned towards Grandpa’s ear, planning to wake him with a shout, but Seth saw her stance and knew this wasn’t good, quickly pulling her arm, "This is a hospital, we can’t be loud."

Honey, puzzled, said, "Aren’t we supposed to wake Grandpa up?"

Seth frowned, thinking it’s odd that despite spending so much time together and learning so much, his sister could still be so naive. "You can’t wake Grandpa like that; you need to chat with him. You can tell him about things with Mom or anything you find interesting. I’ll show you."

Seth stepped forward and said, "Grandpa, I’m Seth. I’m four years old, and I’m Honey’s brother." He turned to his sister, "Got it now?"

Honey nodded, "Got it." She then leaned over the bed, "Grandpa, Grandpa, I’m Honey, also four years old, and I’m the sister." Then she burst into conversation, from the story Mom told her last night to breakfast this morning, wanting to share everything with Grandpa in the hospital bed.

Standing aside, Ruby Sullivan watched the interaction between the two children, feeling very heartened. In her heart, she told her father, Seth is Ethan Sterling’s adopted child, but my son was kidnapped right after birth, and every time I look at Seth, I feel like God returned my son to me.

She calmed herself and gently said, "You stay here and chat with Grandpa for a while, Mommy needs to find the doctor. Don’t go anywhere before I get back, okay?"

Seth nodded, "Don’t worry, we’ll wait for you here." Honey chimed in agreement.

"Good." Ruby Sullivan patted the heads of the two children and turned to leave. After asking a passing nurse about the doctor’s office, she headed there.
