Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 142: Into the states - I
She was getting the pasta whenever anyone was sick. It was only salted and cooked in butter so that was all she was getting.
That was clearly not enough for someone who was pregnant with the child. Salvatore knew that and he was making a statement by not acknowledging the baby and giving her the food only necessary for one.
Evelyn felt the bland food taste like puke in her mouth. Even that was more flavourful.
The most that she could do now was just wait.
It was not like she was sitting idle. She had actually tried to count consecutively in between the two meals.
Evelyn had actually stumbled upon the idea that she could count the seconds before turning them into minutes and then converting them into hours. Which was something that she failed miserably because she could not go on counting for that long.
It was like he had everything planned out and her ideas belonged to someone of amateur nature.
She had no idea how long it had been before Evelyn finally heard the twisting of the door knob.
Her eyes went to the door but she did not get up from the bed. She had been lying halfway while sitting and leaning her back on the wooden framework of the bed.
Just when Evelyn was expecting Salvatore to walk in, to her surprise it was Dante.
Now there were two things that could happen here, one Dante was here to ask about her whereabouts or two, he knew.
And with the shrewd look that was on his face it was obvious that he knew.
She gulped. What now?
Was he going to kill her?
It was then that her eyes went to the maid that just entered the room.
Her mind went to the fact that she could have been the one who had spent the night in front of the door with her husband. Was she the woman?
Never mind the fact that Evelyn did not know how many days it had actually been so that she could actually look for the marks that Salvatore would have left behind and by experience, Evelyn knew he would have.
"Mrs. Alessandro," Dante began, "you are required to change into these clothes. Your presence is required and for that you have to dress formally."
With one firm nod her way, Dante concluded, "I will be waiting outside. If you need any assistance, Sara is here for you."
Evelyn did not even get the chance to reply or maybe it wasn’t not required because she found Dante walking out of the room after he was finished.
She heard the soft click of the lock just as he stepped out of the room and the door closed behind him.
Well, then. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
There was a pile of clothes in the hands of the woman that was still in the room. It was obvious to Evelyn that her presence was it white publicly and could not be excused.
She slowly made her way into the bathroom only for the maid, Sarah, to place the towels and the toiletries on the countertop.
She immediately left the bathroom giving as well in the privacy that she could be seen in this scenario. Grabbing a body wash, Evelyn did not bother with her hair and just quickly rinsed her body.
Sometime during the first time in the shower Sarah had entered the bathroom again to place the dress that she was supposed to wear which only made it easy for Evelyn.
Once fully dressed she moved to the room where she found Sara in front of the vanity with products laid out.
And that was the first time that Evelyn noticed her appearance. She had drastically changed in the time that she had spent in this room alone.
The dark circles, the hollow of her cheeks which grew more prominent. If anyone recognised her now that would be a miracle.
Evelyn watched her actions through the mirror. She pulled out every makeup item known to mankind and within seconds, it was being applied to her face.
Foundation, color corrector, concealer, some Powder she didn’t know. Everything was there.
And the end result, her face from before. She looked like she was glowing naturally with that highlighter.
This was her.
This was the worst nightmare that was coming to reality. Evelyn was a shell of herself and now with the help of makeup she was becoming she had been from the very beginning.
Adding some blush, Sara concluded the makeup session by placing everything down and had started to pack it up.
Not knowing what to do, Evelyn remained seated and her eyes moved to the door when Sara walked out only having Dante walk in.
He moved his eyes up and down her figure taking her in and the nodded approval.
That made it clear to everyone that it was his responsibility to make sure Evelyn was ready to go. But why was Salvatore not here? Why would he tell Dante everything it instead of hiding it to just the both of them?
She gulped before getting up, "can you tell me where I am going?’
Dante said, "since you are ready please grab your bag," he pointed to the clutch laying on the vanity table.
It was when Evelyn had picked it up dante spoke again, "please follow me." He said as he walked out of the door leaving it open behind him for her to follow.
So in other words he was not going to answer her question until he seemed to want to do it.
Following him out silently this was the time when Evelyn actually pay attention to the house. It was a grand house, something that was speaking of how modern the world had gotten unlike the one his parents had.
Marco was standing at the entrance and board deeply to the sight of the consigliere and the Donna.
Did Marco no? He certainly would have his questions as the Butler of the house. He would question the fact that the dawn was keeping his wife inside a bedroom, away from Evelyn and that she was fed only twice a day with bland and sick food.
But she did not see anything in his eyes. Marco remained as professional as he always was, meaning that there was no option for her to know other than by asking.
Well, then.
The door was opened by the soldier standing next to the entrance and once she sat beside under the car moves out of the estate which was as she once again saw and onto the road.
Unable to control her curiosity any further Evelyn just asked, "can you tell it to me now?"
"Tell you what?" He muttered, looking outside the window.
If she had been in a different scenarios Evelyn would have actually snapped at Dante but he was the one who was with a calm mind and given that Salvatore was at his worst at the moment, Evelyn decided not to test the patience of the consigliere.
"Can you please tell me where we are going?" She repeated and saw him nod.
"America," he answered, "your first destination will be New York after that you will go to Chicago and then it would be Miami."
Her eyes bulged out.
"We have disputed territories and the dispute have arisen recently which is why you will be required to stay indoors at all times and only step out with a proper security detail. This would take at least two months in each state, round figure would be 6 months and even more if possible and need be."
"N-beed be?" It could be more than six months for her to stay in America? That would be the first time for her to step onto the soil of that country.
He nodded again. "Yes, disputes like this take time to be solved. We will try negotiation space but in the end it always turns into a bloodbath."
"And the thing with blood bath is it always turns into a mess which would have to be cleared up before we start another one. It might take even more than here if possible."
It would take even more than a year?
It did not take long for Evelyn to figure out where this conversation was going. He was telling her that they were going to go to the states and he was telling her why but there was the underlying reason that she could sense out.
This was giving Salvatore the perfect opportunity to keep her out of sight. It was obvious that if they were going into a disputed area, she was going to be the one that would be protected the most and that meant she would be out of sight.
There, he had done it.
The car came to a stop in front of a jet which meant that they were at the airport. Evelyn gad have not paid attention during the ride.
And there stood her husband.
Salvatore was waiting outside the plane giving everyone the illusion that they were happily together. As she walked towards him, he held out his hand for her to take.
Without missing a beat Evelyn took it.
