Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 143: Into the states - II
The house here was completely modern. The house that Salvatore had bought for them in Italy was somewhere in between old money and the modernized world but this one was completely modernist and fully furnished.
Her mind went to the jet that they had traveled in. That was also completely modernized.
The ride had been entirely quiet. Salvatore did sit with her next to him especially when his Guards were right there with them.
It had been the longest and silent airplane ride that everyone had ever been in. Not only that but there was also a haunting silence that Salvatore might throw her out of the plane to teach her a lesson.
One day he walked inside the house, she had the doors closing behind them meaning that she was trapped inside the house with Salvatore who was headed and stopped in the living room where he took a seat on the couch.
Evelyn, on the other hand, stood in the middle of the way to the living room from the entrance. If he wanted her to sit with him he would have told her.
She gulped, standing there silently waiting to be acknowledged even though her feet were killing her.
Overstepping her boundaries was a grave mistake that she could make at this point.
"Come sit in front of me Evelyn," he pointed to the place in front of her and she looked at him over his head as his back was facing her.
Finally, on having the chance to sit, Evelyn slowly and carefully worked to the two-seater couch in front of him and sat on the left side, slightly diagonal to him.
With a tilt of his head, he watched her seated form in front of him. His eyes drank her in the most from her feet to her face. It made her overly conscious of herself.
"We are in America," he began, "I think Dante told you about that already."
She nodded. He had.
"And, did he tell you why?"
Evelyn gave a firm nod to that question as an answer as well. Had told her all about the disputed territories and where they were going to stay along with the estimated timeline. It was Evelyn who had chosen to find out the underlying meaning in those words.
"Good," he mused, "perhaps it would be easier for you to understand what is expected from you."
Maybe she already knew that. It was obvious that the expectations for her were going to be that she was first to see inside the house at all times. Maybe she could give recent appearances for the first three months and after that when she would have a heavy belly she would have to excuse herself from every public gathering.
That was if she was not killed until then.
"I want you to remain inside. And by that I mean you will not be showing your face even on the balcony. The only time anyone would ever ask you to get out would be after you receive my call."
Wait for what?
"Your call?" She repeated. Why would he call her? That was something that Salvatore did not do even in Italy.
He gave her a bored look. "We are in disputed territory. The only way to lure you out is by taking my name. So, if I do not give you a call by telling you what and who to meet with, you do not get out. Understood?"
She nodded. It did not slip past Evelyn that he was giving her the illusion that he cared enough for her to keep her safe.
Or maybe it was not an illusion that he was throwing away. It could be that he was doing it for his reputation will stop
If his wife was the one that was the least protected then in front of everyone Salvatore would be the weak Don.
"I understand." She told him. "Is there something else that I can do?"
"Keep quiet and keep out of sight." His words hit harder than expected. "There will be two people working in the mansion and none of them will speak about what is happening inside the house."
The mansion was huge. How were there going to be only two people working here?
She nodded, urging him to continue.
He stood up and stepped forward as he towered her seated form. "What happened here as well and should have never happened in the first place. You know if I kill you for this, no one would ever speak against me."
True. She gulped.
"I assure you that none of the two house workers would let the information get outside but if anyone gets wind of it, you will be the first one that I will punish."
His glare hardened, "Your punishment for this has barely begun, and do not think that I would let the child live easily."
She flinched at the harshness he had used.
Apart from that as well and knew that he had meant every word that he has spoken of. He would kill her. He would punish her. There was no set unity if her child would live.
"I know.." she whispered, before the tears in her eyes and she felt the helplessness creep in.
He scoffed. "Of course, you do. You know what would happen when you fucked someone else and got his child inside you."
She knew that.
It was something that she could never forget.
Soon after he had walked out of the house with those words Evelyn found herself in a room where her stuff was already kept.
Once again she was in a room where it was more like a prison than a room that could give her the freedom to decide as a person who lived in it.
The only thing she had that could help her look outside and feel free what’s the small window in the very corner of a room right beside her bed which was the length of the wrist to her elbow.
Evelyn knew that it was very carefully chosen for her because the windows started from her chest and went up words towering her form which meant that no one could see her stomach.
She turned around to look at the room but she was in. It was smaller than the room she had in her father’s house and nothing in comparison to what she had received with the Alessandro’s.
This was what her life had been reduced to.
******
Surprisingly after some time, there was a knock on her door. Evelyn had yelled a come in, but who was the person that did not enter, making Evelyn begrudgingly got up from the bed.
"Yes?" She asked the person as soon as she opened the door.
The woman who stood at the door nodded at Evelyn before she pulled out a pen and paper and showed her something that she had written.
’Lunch.’
Hungry from the hour-long flight that she had taken with Salvatore, Evelyn nodded instantly and followed the woman into the kitchen. She had not been given a tour of the house as well which meant that you have to figure out her way. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Another woman in the kitchen wordlessly served Evelyn the food.
Without having a second thought and especially when she was given something other than the food that was meant for the sick, Evelyn dug into it.
It was then she noticed The silence in the room. It was too much for her to be there which is why she looked in front of her to find the two women working individually.
"Umm.." she spoke up hesitantly. She had not had any of the women talk. "Can I know your names?"
Both of those staff members left the work immediately and stood in front of Evelyn which was in front of her and beyond the table that she sat at.
Each of them pointed to the badge on their chest and Evelyn read their names.
Julia and Mia.
Huh... Satta did not answer anything. Had Salvatore restricted them to give her verbal answers?
Was this also a part of her punishment?
If Evelyn did not know the concrete answer to that, she would go crazy with the countless theories that she could build up about it.
So in the end, she decided to ask the two women if they were being commanded to not talk to her and leave her alone or not.
"Has the.." did they know who Salvatore was?
"Has Mr. Alessandro instructed you not to talk to me?" She spoke slightly hesitantly.
This could go seriously wrong if they chose to address the authorities about it. Even if it would be very easy for Salvatore to get out of there, Evelyn could not afford to make that mistake.
It was then when an answer one of the ladies shook her head and pointed to her mouth.
Evelyn gave a small frown when she saw the woman opening her mouth but then she realized what she was supposed to be looking at.
No tongue.
That was why none of them could answer anything.
Also, the reason why Salvatore was sure that the news from inside the house would not be leaked.
