CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 41 - 49: Wait for Me for Three Minutes
No matter how much money James Black had, Jane Sampson never coveted his wealth, so she didn’t care much about it. Even if they were to divorce, she had no intention of taking a single cent from him.
After Brooke Black left, only James Black and Jane Sampson remained in the house. Looking at the man who was sitting there silently brewing tea, Jane simply couldn’t sit still and ran straight to the kitchen, where she overheard Aunt Nanny muttering that they were out of soy sauce and ginger. Jane promptly volunteered to help.
"Auntie, just tell me what you need, and I’ll go to the supermarket to buy it!" Jane thought that going out to buy some stuff and sneak some snacks was a far better plan than staying at home doing nothing and having to face James Black.
Aunt Nanny was thrilled to hear that Jane offered to go out, "That would be great! I can’t leave the soup on the stove right now! Miss Black said everyone would be back for lunch, so I have to get things ready."
"Auntie, you’ve worked hard this noon." Jane flattered with a smile, "I’ll help you out when I come back with the groceries!"
After finishing the conversation, Jane walked out of the kitchen cheerfully. Her purse was on the sofa, and the car key was with James Black, so she naturally went to him.
Before she could even speak, James Black saw her putting on her purse and preemptively asked, "Where to?"
"Just to the supermarket to help Aunt Nanny buy some groceries." Jane’s response was swift, and then she extended her palm to him, "Give me the car key; I’ll drive there."
The nearest supermarket to the Black Residence was a 20-minute drive away. In this hot weather, if one didn’t drive, it would be a test of human life endurance.
James Black’s gaze lingered on Jane’s delicate palm. Her fingers, used to playing the piano, were slender and beautiful, and even her palms were paler than most people’s.
"I’ll go with you," James said efficiently, starting to cleanup the tea sets. "Wait three minutes for me."
Jane felt a barrage of exclamation marks hit her forehead.
"Can I refuse?" Jane asked in a tiny voice, "I can go by myself." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
James Black stopped his movements and looked up at Jane, who was pouting and picking at her fingers. He didn’t immediately respond but instead finished tidying up the tea sets before standing up and walking around the tea table towards Jane.
Looking at her face, he suddenly lifted his hand toward her face.
Jane stepped back in alarm, "James Black, what are you doing?"
It surely couldn’t be that he would lash out just because she said she wanted to go alone?
"What do you think I’m going to do?" James Black furrowed his eyebrows, "You think I’m going to hit you?"
James found it laughable. Did Jane really see him as the kind of man who would hit his own wife?
After his rhetorical question, James pressed his hand on Jane’s shoulder, not tenderly, and wiped off the powder on her face, "Sneak eating and you don’t even wipe your mouth."
Having said that, he didn’t bother to see Jane’s expression and took the car key and walked out first. When he got to the doorway and still didn’t see Jane following, he turned back to the person who was still standing there stunned and urged, "Are we going or not?"
"Going! Going!" Jane’s voice was soft and meek, now devoid of the cheer and joy she had when she had first asked him for the car key.
Going alone and going with James Black were two completely different moods.
The former was bubbly and joyous, the latter a mixture of mirth and misery.
