CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 40 - 48: Black Clan
"Talk of the Great General’s snacks arriving is just me hijacking the General’s treats to satisfy a craving," he thought, knowing that her slyly smiling face definitely hid some little scheme.
After a bag of snacks went down, Jane Sampson contentedly patted her belly, then reached over and shook the General’s hand, "Thanks for being willing to share, General. Next time, I’ll take you out for a walk."
Having tossed aside the potato chip packaging, Jane Sampson scampered back to the sofa. Without waiting for James Black to offer, she poured herself a cup of boiled water and gulped it down in one go.
At that moment, Brooke Black came downstairs and called out to Jane Sampson.
"The other day, a client gave me a basket of free-range eggs they raised themselves in the countryside. When are you and James planning to head back? Take some with you when you leave. These days, it’s tough to buy free-range eggs—they’re nutritious. Since James isn’t at home, eat one every day to nourish yourself."
"Sure!" Jane Sampson cheerfully agreed, then looked toward James Black and asked, "When are we going back?"
James Black glanced at the snack thief who didn’t even know to wipe her mouth and let out a soft laugh. She still had some powder around her lips, completely oblivious, probably thinking her act was flawless. He never knew what she was up to while sitting in front of the patio window just now.
"What are you laughing at when Jane is asking when we’re going back?" Brooke Black felt utterly horrified. For someone usually so silent and poker-faced to start laughing out of the blue was actually quite scary.
Only then did James Black put away the smile at the corner of his mouth, immediately regaining his usual demeanor. If it weren’t for Brooke Black’s lingering shock at the sight of James’s sudden laughter, she might have thought she was seeing things just a moment ago.
"We’ll see," James Black was in no rush to leave; he found Jane Sampson’s presence in the Black Family home quite entertaining.
"Alright, if you’re staying overnight, ask the Auntie to change the duvet cover in your room. Just tell the Auntie whenever you decide to head back, and I’ll make sure she gives you the eggs," Brooke Black said before heading to the doorway, then added, "There’s an urgent matter at the company I need to attend to, and I might not make it back for lunch. Remember to stay for lunch and keep Old Sir company."
Once Brooke Black left and James Black had acknowledged, only the nanny, James, and Jane were left in the house.
Old Master Black had one son and two daughters, with the eldest son also serving in the guard team, all living inside the great courtyard. James Black’s mother was Old Master Black’s eldest daughter, but sadly she passed away when James was very young. James could be said to have been raised by Old Master Black, while Brooke was his youngest daughter, perhaps spoiled as the baby, making her one of the few in the Black Family not very afraid of the Old Sir. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
In his youth, Old Master Black participated in many wars and is now a renowned Great General in the guard team industry. His wife came from a family of businessmen tracing back to the Qing dynasty, accruing a staggering amount of wealth over time.
Among them, the enterprise later known as Black Clan Group was most profitable. It was now managed by Brooke Black and her husband, while James inherited his share of the inheritance from his mother. Like his uncle, he didn’t need to bother with company matters throughout the year, only awaiting his dividends at the end of the year.
Just how rich was the Black Clan? When the Sampson family business nearly went bankrupt due to cash flow issues, needing over 100 million, the Black Clan could easily provide the funds without affecting their own capital liquidity.
So although Jane Sampson never asked James Black how much he earned in dividends each year, a question of such a private nature, she always knew that James Black was never short of money.
