CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 39 - 47: Don’t Shout
Old Master Black watched Great General run off as if he had been given an order and showed no interest in where the dog went; checking the time, his appointment for a chess game had come, so he left James Black and Jane Sampson alone in the house and departed.
When Jane saw Old Master Black leave, she truly heaved a sigh of relief, even shrugging her shoulders, no longer sitting up straight but slumping like a child on their first day of kindergarten.
James glanced at Jane’s small movements, a playful smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He was about to ask if she wanted another cup of tea when, all of a sudden, she stood up, and the next second, Great General bounded into her arms with something in his mouth.
James could see only Great General’s large body, but not Jane’s face; however, from her voice and the way she praised Great General, it seemed the dog had done something particularly praiseworthy.
"Great General, let’s go," Jane patted the dog that was pressing down on her and pointed toward the patio window next to her, "To where!"
Only then did Great General let go of her and ran over there first. Once Jane stood up again, James noticed the item in her hand—a puffed snack pack, or in other words, she was holding a whole pack of potato chips. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Perhaps sensing James’ gaze, Jane subconsciously hid the potato chips behind her back, but soon realizing this childish act was rather foolish, she brought them back out and shook the bag at James, baring her teeth in a grin, "This is Great General’s snack, it can’t open it, so I’m feeding it!"
After saying that, Jane rushed over to Great General who was already lying in front of the patio window. The nine o’clock sunlight was just right, not too hot, and she sat down cross-legged directly in front of the window, patting the spot next to her for Great General to nudge closer, then tore open the packaging and shook it in front of the dog.
She took out a potato chip from the bag, looking sneakily in James’s direction, and seeing him with his head down drinking tea, she quickly tossed the item in her hand into her mouth and munched away with puffed cheeks. However, Great General suddenly let out a loud "woof" next to her, startling her into quickly muffling the dog’s mouth.
"Don’t bark! Shut it!" she whispered sternly to Great General, "Don’t be so stingy; it’s just one chip. Without me, you couldn’t even open it!"
If Great General could speak at this moment, he’d probably rebut Jane. After all, the dog that could dismantle a home surely could tear open a bag of potato chips, couldn’t it?
Of course, Jane wasn’t privy to the dog’s thoughts, but seeing Great General eagerly nudging her hand, she still fed him a chip.
The pair, human and dog, were unusually harmonious over a shared pack of potato chips.
James remained seated without moving. Aside from the initial glance Jane had cast his way, she paid him no further heed. James pretended not to notice that look, only lifting his eyes in the second he was sipping his tea and catching sight of her popping a chip into her mouth.
What followed was Great General taking a chip, then her taking one, back and forth, as the two, one human and one dog, sat by the patio window, quietly enjoying the whole pack of potato chips without any fuss.
James thought about all the snacks hidden in every corner of the house, and then that whole pack of potato chips he had thrown out, considering Jane’s passion for them, he guessed she must have cursed him plenty in her dreams that evening.
