CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 1468 - 1476: Secrets Exposed
"That David-whatever mocked Julie for overestimating herself, saying Julie knew perfectly well he had a fiancée but still tried to seduce him. Wasn’t it just a tacit understanding to fool around? Yet she actually dared to dream about marrying him. What a pipe dream," Peter shrugged. "Then Julie said she wanted to go fight that David-whatever."
"David Chip," Thomas, tired of hearing Peter’s vague descriptions, finally interjected with the correct name.
"Yes, yes, David Chip," Peter nodded furiously, "That’s the name."
"Get to the point," Yvette urged.
"Obviously Julie couldn’t beat David Chip. That guy’s despicable, but he wouldn’t hit a woman. He dodged, and then his fiancée immediately announced she wanted to break off the engagement. She told Julie that if she wanted a man like him, she could take him; then she coolly turned around, got in her car, and drove off in style."
Peter added, "That’s what happened. I saw her leave and figured there wasn’t anything else interesting to watch, so I left too."
As he spoke, Nina also pushed the door open and came in. The cold wind was howling outside, and she was bundled up like a grizzly bear.
"Just you few here? Where are the others? Haven’t they arrived yet?" Nina asked after sitting down.
"They’re on their way. One’s stuck in traffic, and the other’s car broke down halfway and had to catch a ride," Thomas explained for their other childhood friends.
Nina nodded, "I also caught a ride here. At this time of day, traffic makes you question life itself. Luckily, I live close by."
As she spoke, Nina pulled out her phone and dropped a bombshell, "Oh, by the way, did you guys know? David Chip’s fiancée just posted on Twitter that she broke off the engagement with him. I saw it while I was on the road and nearly jumped out of my skin." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
As soon as Nina finished, the whole private room erupted into laughter.
Nina had arrived late and joined the conversation right as Peter had perfectly wrapped up his story. It was an unexpectedly seamless handoff.
"What are you laughing at? You all knew already?" Nina asked, bewildered, looking at the others laughing like maniacs—except for James, who remained expressionless. "Some netizens are saying she got cheated on. Someone even saw her earlier on Springlight Street beating up the other woman and David Chip, calling him trash. Under her breakup announcement tweet, there’s a whole group of cyber onlookers consoling her."
"I know, I was there in person and even recorded a video," Peter said, handing over his phone with the album open to Nina. "Here, check out the intense action. That woman doesn’t hold back when it comes to hitting people, but I’ve got to say, I admire her character."
Nina leaned over to look. She immediately recognized the woman who had been beaten to the ground by David Chip’s fiancée. "How could it be Julie?"
"It is her," Peter nodded. "Little Jane and my brother ran into Julie and David Chip being all lovey-dovey while watching a movie together. I guess this time, it all blew up."
"Let’s not talk about Julie anymore," Yvette said, glancing at Jane, who was laughing along with the others. Then she changed the subject and started chatting with Jane about Jane’s work, asking her to get an autograph from her idol next time she met him.
Nina immediately chimed in, saying she wanted one too. The conversation transitioned naturally, and ten minutes later, the other two finally arrived at the private room, bringing a chill from the cold outside with them.
As the meal began, Jane immediately added some yellow chili to her sauce bowl, sneaking a glance at James beside her. When she saw him look at her without saying anything, she chuckled to herself.
She picked up her chopsticks again and added a piece of red chili to the bowl. She kept adding until James furrowed his eyebrows. Before he could say anything, she quickly put down her chopsticks, tilted her head, and leaned against his arm, pretending to act cute with a soft giggle.
