Chapter 1469: Chapter 1477: Who Made the Move?

"Tsk tsk tsk, such public displays of affection." Nina Rice mimicked Jane Sampson’s action and leaned against Peter Gingery’s arm. "Oh my, showing off your love every day like this, you guys are making me feel all kinds of ways~"

"Nowadays, my brother only has to raise an eyebrow, and Jane Sampson already knows what he’s about to say." Peter Gingery raised his hand and pushed Nina’s head away. "You’ve put on weight recently, even the water in your brain feels heavy."

Yvette Quick nearly spat out the lemon water in her mouth.

Peter Gingery ran his mouth for a moment of fun, but afterward, he was hopping around begging for mercy after Nina stomped on his foot.

"Isn’t it good to just live peacefully? Why must you provoke me?" Nina slowly pulled her leg back and snorted.

A group of friends finished their hotpot around eight or nine o’clock, yet still had enough energy to plan a trip to the cinema to catch a New Year’s movie. Even the 9:30 p.m. show was absolutely packed.

Jane Sampson, wearing a mask, was completely enveloped in James Black’s protective embrace as they made their way into the cinema. Along the way, she heard quite a few people mentioning David Chip breaking off his engagement with his long-time fiancée.

The two young girls seated behind Jane’s group were murmuring among themselves, "These two have been engaged for so long, and there’s never been the slightest talk of a wedding. Back then, I had a gut feeling they’d never make it to marriage. I’m practically a prophet!"

"Are all rich people like this? Is it called a business marriage? I heard those wealthy families arrange their marriages this way. And from what I know, David Chip and his fiancée hardly ever had strong feelings for each other. I’ve barely ever seen those two in the same picture. All those news stories about them from before were completely staged," said the other girl.

"I heard David Chip cheated, which is why his fiancée beat him up and called it quits. If that’s true, then David Chip is a real scumbag. And whoever the mistress is, she’s just shameless."

Jane Sampson had been listening in with her ears perked up, but as the movie began, James Black gently turned her head back, signaling her to focus on the film instead of eavesdropping on the gossip behind them.

Jane smiled with her eyes, her expression soft and amused. Her movements were so subtle, yet James still caught on?

On the street corner after Peter Gingery left, Julie Sampson had a full-blown screaming match with David Chip like a madwoman before hailing a cab home.

When Mother Sampson saw Julie storming back in fuming, she immediately expressed concern, "Luna, what’s wrong? Who upset you?"

After asking, she looked closely and noticed a handprint on Julie’s swollen face. Mother Sampson’s voice immediately rose, "Who hit you?"

Just then, Father Sampson happened to walk downstairs. Hearing this, he glanced over at Julie.

Sure enough, Julie’s face was visibly red and swollen from a slap.

"What happened?" Father Sampson asked. "Didn’t you say you were going on a date with your boyfriend? Is this how your date went? Did your boyfriend hit you?"

After Julie’s wedding plans with Kendal Smith fell through, Granny Sampson and Grandpa Sampson had been working hard to find other suitable matches for her. Julie had met two potential suitors but grew impatient and finally confessed that she already had a boyfriend.

However, when Granny Sampson and Grandpa Sampson asked who her boyfriend was, Julie didn’t dare tell them. Everyone in the Sampson Family knew David Chip, as well as his former fiancée, whom they had all met before.

So, Julie only said that they had just started dating and that their relationship was still unstable. She promised to introduce him once things became more certain.

Granny Sampson and Grandpa Sampson, hearing this, thought Julie’s words were unusually mature and decided to respect her decision without pressing further.
