Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 462: Personal Signature
It was not until He Juan reached the uppermost floor, where the offices and archive room were located, that he figured out the source of his restlessness.
The children!
The purpose of this secret experiment was to eliminate the side-effects of AX–03 and turn it into a miracle drug which could boost an Alpha’s prowess, thus creating mutated Alphas whose capability was twice as terrifying as superior Alphas. However, the children he had seen earlier were either Omegas or those who had not manifested yet, and there was not a single mutated Alpha among them!
This was extremely shocking and unbelievable because in the previous secret facilities he had raided, there were always one or two mutated Alphas at the very least!
With how tight the security around the building was and the fact that this facility had been operating for at least five years, even if someone beat He Juan to death, he still would not believe that they had not produced even one mutated Alpha with the research data accumulated for decades!
Unease began to permeate into He Juan’s heart. Now that he had pinpointed what had been bugging him all this while, instead of feeling relieved, he became more anxious instead.
It was akin to groping in the dark. He saw a flicker of light in the far distance, but his gut instinct warned him that something horrendous was standing in between. But he had no choice; to reach the light, he had to face that repulsive thing.
Alas, before He Juan could delve deeper into this bizarre agitation, a faint sound of activity ahead caught his attention and he signaled for his men to proceed. Meanwhile, he tapped on his earpiece and contacted the men on the third floor whom he had asked to escort the children away. "Check the entire floor one more time and make sure that you don’t miss anyone."
"Received," came a reply from the other side.
"Boss!"
Upon hearing the call, He Juan raised his head and saw two of his men dragging out a bald and thin middle aged man dressed in a white coat. The man’s glasses were knocked askew and one side of his cheeks were swollen. He tried to struggle out to no avail. The men informed He Juan, "Boss, we caught him trying to set fire to the archive room!"
Glacier formed on He Juan’s silver eyes. "And?"
"We took him down before he could do any more damage, but there’s already a small section that caught on fire. We have already put it off!"
"P–Please...!" the man pleaded with tears and snots running down his face. Looking at the bloody He Juan who exuded a bloodthirsty aura, he was so afraid that he pissed on his pants, causing a small yellow puddle to form beneath his feet. He wanted to kneel down to ask for mercy, but the two men held him on a tight grip, preventing him from moving even for a bit. And thus he could only use his mouth to beg for his life again and again. "Please... please let me go! I–I swear I will tell you everything! Don’t kill me!"
He Juan couldn’t help but laugh when he heard that, though the smile did not reach his eyes at all. "Don’t kill you?" he asked softly.
With every step He Juan took toward the man, he shrank back and wanted to flee by reflex, only to be kept in place by He Juan’s men. He could only bear the full pressure of a superior Alpha’s aura pressing down on him. It was like he was carrying a mountain on his shoulder, a burden so heavy that his body could not stop trembling all over. He would have collapsed on the ground if not for the men holding him in a tight grip.
He Juan narrowed his eyes, his voice soft and gentle. "You asked me not to kill you?" He stopped before the man, towering above him like a ravenous vulture. "When you robbed those children from their family, their parents and siblings, did you show mercy on them? When you treated them like mere experiment objects instead of human beings they are, did you show mercy on them? When you caged them here and ruined their normal life forever, did you show mercy on them?!" He Juan’s voice abruptly rose in the end, causing the man to flinch.
"I–I was wrong! I didn’t—"
Before the man could finish his sentence, He Juan swiftly drew his gun, reloaded it and pulled the trigger. All of these movements were executed neatly, and the next second— BANG! The man’s head burst apart like a fountain of crimson liquid spraying in all directions.
More blood splattered onto He Juan’s body, making him look more evil and sinister, as if he had crawled out from the depths of hell. "Since you can’t even show pity on them, then there’s no need for me to grant you mercy."
He put back his gun and told his men, who had not batted an eyelid after He Juan headshotted another person yet again, "Clean this up."
"Yes, Sir!"
He Juan walked to the archive room and found three men bustling about to pack all the documents to be taken away. The space was quite spacious with a few large shelves lining up across the wall. It looked like a normal archive room, if only it did not contain the documentation of the cruel act which had been performed in this place for years.
"Boss," they greeted him, then one of them added, "We haven’t touched the burnt ones."
He Juan followed their line of sight and saw that one corner of the shelf in the inner part of the room was messy with overturned boxes and scattered papers. Some of them were already burned to ashes. Waving off their concerns, He Juan told them to continue working as he made his way there.
Just then, his earpiece buzzed and a man’s voice came through, "Boss, we have escorted the children out safely. There’s no one else on the third floor aside from the ones we encountered earlier."
No one else? He Juan knitted his brows in doubt, but he merely hummed and replied, "Understood, thank you for your hard work."
He directed his gaze to the messy documents under his feet. Earlier, as soon as they were besieged, the bald middle-aged man’s first reaction was to burn these documents, which proved that they must be crucial.
He Juan crouched down, pulled on a pair of nylon gloves and grabbed a piece of half burnt paper to inspect. "Oho," he whistled, recognizing the familiar sheet— the money ledger. No wonder the man was so eager to get rid of this. Too bad though, half of the documents were already already damaged, but it would not be an issue because He Juan could—
He abruptly froze, his gaze landing on a certain paper beside his feet. The upper half was already scorched, leaving only the bottom half where a signature was present.
He Juan could recognize that signature anywhere— grab any important document in Xuanlong headquarters’ archive room and you could see this signature on the bottom of the page.
Because this was Luo Xuan, the Boss of Xuanlong’s personal signature.
It felt as though a lightning bolt had struck He Juan right on the head, causing his vision to sway. Mo Feng’s words echoed in his mind: "You don’t know about this, do you, Boss? The secret experiment was supposed to have stopped that year, but these past few years, it has started again... because a bigshot injected a substantial amount of funds into it! The facility I had been investigating is one, but there is actually another newly built facility in Yuyang, where important documents and ledgers are kept! I’ve been investigating this for so long, and the clues finally led me to Xuanlong—"
"You’re right! I did suspect you at first, because you’re the only person capable of pulling off such a stunt in Xuanlong!"
But Mo Feng was wrong.
In fact, there was another person more powerful and capable than him in Xuanlong, and that was the Big Boss and founder of the organization itself. If it was him...
Impossible! He Juan subconsciously refuted it. He could not believe what he was thinking. How could he entertain such a thought, even if it was for a split second? He shook his head, No, no, he is the last person that could do something like this! He is also an omega, so how could he harm his fellow kind?!
But if that was the case, why would Luo Xuan’s signature be found here, on the ledger which the man was trying so hard to burn?
Lost in thought, He Juan’s mind repeated the word ’impossible’ again and again in his mind. And then, when he heard footsteps approaching from behind, his first instinct was to snatch that piece of paper and shove it into his pocket. He rose to his feet just in time for his subordinate to appear on the corner, "Boss, we have finished gathering the documents. Do you need me to help you here?"
Right now, He Juan’s mental state was the complete opposite of his composed façade. He calmly dismissed the man. "No need, I can handle it myself." Despite his words, only he alone knew how hard his heart was breathing, and how his shirt was drenched in cold sweat in a blink of an eye.
After realizing what he had done, he panicked a little bit inside. ’What have you done, He Juan? Why would you hide it?! Wouldn’t it prove that you have a guilty conscience?!’
The man nodded readily. "Okay, but if you need help, then don’t— Boss!" His expression abruptly morphed into one of horror when his gaze moved behind He Juan.
Too shaken by the discovery of Luo Xuan’s signature, He Juan’s reaction was lagging a beat, and he whipped his head around in time to see a guard holding an assault rifle. Damn it, where did this one come from?! Had he been hiding inside the archive room all along?!
He Juan’s pupils shrank sharply when the man pointed the gun at him—
BANG!
