Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 461: Intruders!

2.04 AM.

The air in the mountainous range was cool and fresh, as the summer heat gradually dissipated with the arrival of beautiful autumn. It was the time when everyone let down their guard the most, their eyelids heavy with drowsiness. The dogs were dozing off. Even the patrolling guards were chatting leisurely with each other as they made their rounds with rifles loosely held in their arms.

Nobody knew that the building had long been surrounded from all sides.

Perched on a sturdy tree branch, a man peered through the telescope and confirmed that everything was in place. He tapped his earpiece twice.

On the side of the building, another man was stationed in front of the power box, the body of a patrolling guard sprawled beneath his feet. As soon as he received the signal, he immediately worked to disconnect the power source and the next moment, the electric fence let out a faint hiss and turned off with a snap.

The dogs perked up their ears and raised their heads, alert. Seeing that, the guard was bewildered. "What is—" Alas, he had not even finished his sentence yet when something flew through the air and rolled near his feet, emitting a loud hiss. White smoke billowed, stinging his eyes and forcing tears to well up. He almost could not open them. A faint whimper entered his ears and he turned by reflex to see the trained dog frantically shaking its head, disoriented.

T–This was a tear bomb!

Intruders! There were intruders in this place!

Heart leaping to his throat, he grabbed his gun tighter and fought against the pain stabbing into his retina. Just as he was about to shout a warning, his body abruptly jerked to the side and blood sprayed out of his temple from where the bullet had pierced through his head.

He collapsed to the ground and breathed his last, still with his eyes wide in shock and alarm.

Marius’ silhouette appeared amidst the hazy fog, his face masked. As if sensing something, he tilted his head sharply to the side and fired another shot. His movement was neat and precise, exuding a dangerous aura of a superior Alpha. Gone was the courteous and gentleman’s demeanor he usually showed. Right now, he was akin to an unsheathed blade, sharp and deadly. Following the shot, the sound of a bullet piercing flesh reverberated through the air, followed by the thud of a body hitting the ground. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

He tapped on his earpiece and spoke, "I have covered the grounds here. Proceed as planned."

A buzz, then He Juan’s voice came through, "Roger."

In the middle of the night, the whole building was thrown into chaos with the intruders’ execution.

They were silent, uniformed and efficient, swiftly eliminating everyone on sight. Like a stealthy virus spreading undetected, by the time their presence was realized, it was already too late. Upon receiving the alert, guards in the control room sounded an alarm that blared through the air like a battle horn, signaling the start of a bloody confrontation tonight. Lights flickered on inside the building one by one, revealing frantic figures scurrying about. However, escape was no longer an option, for all exits had been blocked.

Ye Qiu took charge, "I will deal with the rest of the people here. XIU, you should lead the team inside."

He Juan gave her an OK gesture and beckoned for the men to follow him. They stormed into the building and captured everyone on sight, especially the researchers who scrambled to flee. One of them was caught and brought to his knees before He Juan. His face was pale, and his hair disheveled. "W–Who are you people?! We are—"

The muzzle of the gun was pointed at his head. Frozen in fear, he tremblingly raised his head to meet He Juan’s chilling eyes that sent shivers down his spine. "Where are the children?" He Juan asked, his tone frighteningly flat.

The man shifted his gaze away and stammered, "W–What children..."

BANG!

"AHH—!!"

People screamed in horror as the man’s head exploded like a watermelon, sending a burst of blood and brain matter across the walls. Some begged for mercy, while others fainted from fright. Without batting an eyelid, He Juan reloaded his gun and aimed it at the nearest middle-aged woman, likely the supervisor based on her ID badge.

He asked again, "Where are the children?" There was nary a fluctuation in his tone, but now everyone came to realize that he would not hesitate to open fire if he did not get the answers he wanted.

The woman trembled at being held at gunpoint, though she managed to keep her composure instead of losing her mind unlike the others. It was evident that she held authority in this place. With both of her hands raised, she parted her quivering lips and uttered a location. "T–The third floor..."

Upon hearing that, He Juan lowered his gun, snatched the woman’s ID badge and selected a small group of people to come with him. "The rest of you, round them up. If they resist, kill them."

With that, He Juan ventured deeper into the building and rushed up the stairs. The building had five floors, with the lower levels housing staff areas and upper levels housing laboratories and observation rooms. Based on his experience raiding similar facilities, He Juan could immediately deduce the layout of the entire building. He led the men to the third floor where the experimental subjects were held, and opened the locked metal door by scanning the ID badge.

In an instant, he found them crowding in the hallway, having come out of their rooms after hearing the commotion. He Juan quickly counted with his eyes and saw that there were around twenty children, aged between seven to twelve, with the oldest around the age as Ye Qiu’s little brothers. Seeing them huddling together reminded him of a pack of drenched and abandoned kittens, holding onto each other for comfort.

He Juan subconsciously took a step forward, only for the children to cry out, "D–Don’t kill us!" The fear and horror in their eyes were vivid, as though it was going to burst out of the pores in their body. "Please!"

Frowning, He Juan sensed that something was off, but he could not pinpoint the exact issue. With little time to spare, he motioned for them to follow him. "We’re here to get you out of this place. Come with us!"

He extended a hand to the child closest to him, but the little boy shrank back in fear and immediately burst into tears as though he had seen something horrifying. The reaction was contagious. One after another, the children began to bawl their eyes out.

It was only then that He Juan noticed the blood splattered across his body from when he shot the man earlier. Alas, even without the blood, they would instinctively fear him, likely due to the bloodlust he was exuding. After all, children would always be more sensitive to such things, wouldn’t they?

The veins on He Juan’s forehead throbbed upon hearing the cacophony of shrill cries around him. He took his hand back without changing an expression, already used to children being terrified at the mere sight of him. Instead, he ordered his men, "Take them away. Do not let them get hurt."

Once again, the small group split into two as He Juan rushed to the upper floor. However, as time passed, he could not shake off the feeling that he had overlooked something crucial.
