[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 228: Ch : Looking for a place to stay - part 2
"Excuse me, but I was looking to rent a place. How much will you charge for this place?"
The landowner looked at Shuu and then at the kid by Shuu’s side before his face twisted into a not-so-flattering expression. The look in his eyes told Shuu that this was another failed attempt by him to get some shelter.
Shuu had initially wanted to rent a hotel, but he had decided against it once he heard the prices of a single night’s stay. But since Shuu’s decision was not temporary, he decided to spend a little bit more to find cheaper accommodation.
He was luckily able to find a few places, but he could not call them perfect either.
There was always some kind of factor or dispute that caused Shuu not to make his decision. The last one he had seen was a disputed land. As soon as they showed up to see the place, the other party also arrived and decided to start a fight.
The landowner had assured Shuu that this would not happen again once he shifted in. But Shuu had no intention of moving into such a dangerous place.
Because of this, he had rejected all the other places that were under his budget, and now this run-down place remained for him to use.
"Sir, I would advise you to think carefully. This really is the last place. If even this is not to your satisfaction, then I am afraid that you won’t be able to find any home."
The landowner told Shuu with a straight face. He was not joking around, and Shuu decided to take his word seriously and look around.
Out of all the places that he had seen, this one was the worst-looking by far. The paint was peeling off the walls, and the floors had questionable material all over them. The broken glass also did not invoke any satisfaction inside Shuu.
And yet, somehow this felt like the best option he had seen all evening. There were no people coming to knock at the door to threaten violence after all.
"I will take it. How much did you say the rent for this place was?"
The landowner looked taken aback, and he gave Shuu a glance that asked him if he was right in the head. No sane person would ever rent this place.
But the owner did not know what Shuu had gone through and just how capable he was. This small place was much better than any shed Shuu had lived in before he met Kaiden.
This place had four functional walls and some other conveniences. He could make it work with everything else.
Sigh
"I would advise you to find another place as soon as possible. But if you are hell-bent on getting this place, then I won’t stop you either. Here, this is the rent document. You can read it and sign it. You will also need to pay an advance payment to make the contract official."
Shuu did not have much to his name, but he still paid what he could, and this place was officially his to rent.
The landowner gave Shuu one last look of concern before he left.
There was only one bed in the whole place, and even that looked questionable. So Shuu decided to grab some cleaning supplies left behind in this place and clean up one room.
He looked around the room and found clean mattresses that he laid down on the floor and told Rin to lie down while Shuu worked to clean this place up.
Rin looked uncomfortable being the only one to rest. But his powers activated as soon as he tried to walk, and something broke in the house.
Rin looked guilty for what happened, but Shuu did not look worried. Instead of telling Rin off, he sighed and ruffled the kid’s hair.
"It’s alright. I can tell that you are having an uncomfortable time right now. But it will all be alright in the end. You just need to keep holding on..."
Shuu encouraged Rin, and color finally returned to Rin’s face at that reassurance. It helped to have someone like Shuu around the kid.
Rin finally went to sleep, and Shuu kept his smile. But once the kid was asleep, it was time to get back to work.
His body ached as Shuu worked harder and harder. He even wanted to close his eyes and go to sleep while standing up. That was how tired he was.
And yet, despite being tired, he did not want to close his eyes or stay idle because the second he did, those memories and his doubts came crawling back to him. And Shuu was not in a condition to handle them.
So he worked until he could not move anymore. And finally, his body decided to give up, and Shuu fell asleep into a sleep where he did not have to think or worry. His body shut down, and he slept beside Rin for a long time.
Shuu had no intention of waking up, but his body demanded food.
Rin was still somehow asleep, but he had cuddled closer to Shuu during the night to take advantage of his presence.
It was hard for Shuu to push Rin back, and every time he did, Rin kept coming back to cuddle even harder. Just pushing him aside made Shuu feel bad.
But Shuu needed to look for food first, and after breakfast, he wanted to look for a job.
Their biggest concern right now was money and food. Everything else could come later once these two things were secured.
"Alright, let’s go and look for some food. But what should I do with Rin? I don’t want to leave him alone..."
In the end, Shuu decided to wake Rin up and take him along for the day. Things felt expensive, but what was needed could not be skipped.
They came back with some cheap bread and other things they would need for their stay here. But with this, Shuu was officially broke now.
