Chapter 229: Ch 229: Shall we look for a job?

Rin slowly bit and chewed his food. He looked unbothered by what he was eating, but Shuu felt bad for making him eat such low-quality food.

Since Rin had grown up in the imperial palace, he had been given the best food. He was likely not used to such bare and hard-to-eat food as Shuu was feeding him. And Shuu felt guilty for it, but there was nothing he could do at the moment.

Once they finished their food, Shuu picked up the dishes and cleaned them. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Rin looked like a lost child as he kept looking at Shuu for what he should do next. Looking back at him made Shuu feel a little guilty, but he did not say anything.

He waited for Rin to settle down before he walked over to Rin and rubbed his head. It made Rin relax and settle down beside Shuu.

"I will need to head out since I want to look for a job. Would you be alright by yourself?"

Shuu asked, and Rin looked like he was having a panic attack.

"N-No! I can’t..."

Rin’s face was pale, and he looked ready to collapse at any second. Just looking at him made Shuu feel bad, and he instantly forgot what he was going to tell Rin next.

All Shuu could do was hold Rin close and reassure him that nothing would happen to him.

"Shh, it will be alright. You are not alone. If you don’t want me to go, then I won’t go. You don’t have to look so worried."

Shuu promised, and Rin finally calmed down. He did not let go of his hold on Shuu and looked him in the eye.

"You won’t leave? You promise you won’t leave?"

Rin seemed to be having a hard time keeping himself in check, and Shuu felt bad for him. That was why he instantly agreed to the request Rin was asking him for.

"I promise I won’t leave. I do need to get a job, but maybe you can come with me for my interviews? That way, I can see if the job is fine or not."

Shuu had a feeling that he would be rejected from most of the jobs as soon as he brought Rin with him.

He did not know about this world, but back in his time, having a child with someone was considered a liability because you would not be able to work properly with a child around.

Most people used to send their children to temples or schools during the daytime, and Shuu was sure that such a situation was possible here as well.

But he did not want to explore it for now. He wanted to give himself and Rin time to adjust to this new world.

After breakfast, Shuu closed the house they were in and started his job hunt. He looked around the area first to see if there was anything he could do there.

But unfortunately, his fears came true. People were not willing to hire him because of the child he had with him.

Rin looked downcast, and Shuu felt bad for him. So he pulled Rin aside and made him sit on a bench while he sank to his knees in front of him.

Shuu grabbed Rin’s hands and made him look up.

"Look at me, Rin. I know that this is a hard situation, but none of it is your fault. I cannot possibly work at a place that does not understand my circumstances. So don’t look like it’s the end of the world. I am fine."

Shuu comforted Rin. But the more he tried to cheer the kid up, the more Rin looked like he wanted to cry.

"B-But this is... not fine. This is my fault. Because of m-"

"Rin, it’s fine. There is no need for you to blame yourself when there are other factors at play. Now wipe your tears. Here, use this."

Shuu handed Rin something to wipe his face with, and Rin took it with shaking hands.

It was clear that Rin was still not over this whole situation, but he was feeling much better.

"This is good, right? Then, shall we try a guild next? I would rather not work with them because I am a guide. But this seems to be a well-paying option."

Rather, this seemed to be the only option.

A guide was considered a nice place to work with great benefits for the most part. But there were positions in the guilds that were equally dangerous and no one wanted to take-the survey team.

As the name suggested, it was a small team that went into the dungeon before the main team to scout it. It was a job filled with danger, but the pay was good.

Besides, the benefits for the family members being left behind were great as well.

Speaking of family members... Shuu had checked the records, and he had no family at this time. So he wanted to make the situation right.

"Rin, would you want to be officially adopted by me? I know it’s late and you might not want to. But having an official reason to be related might be for the best here. And also..."

Shuu noticed Rin’s expression first. He looked struck but hopeful at Shuu’s words. It seemed like he had been waiting for these words for a long time but was never able to express his desire.

But the next second, that expression faded and a doubtful look took its place.

"W-Will it be alright? Caelis... did not want me to..."

Rin sounded shy and sad. Shuu immediately came to his defense.

"Caelis will be fine. He’s not here right now. And even if he was, I am sure he would understand that it is for safety reasons. Of course, that’s not the only reason, and I will only proceed if you want me to. You also don’t have to agree if you don’t want to."

Shuu would feel disappointed by this, but he would respect Rin’s choice in this matter.
