Chapter 290: 290: The Wizard’s Tale I

The mountain top was vibrating as Eden immediately got up to his feet and stepped backwards; Lenny came to stand on his shoulder.

The two of them stared at the ground from which the flower was plucked. "What’s happening? Are you sure it’s not an avalanche or something?"

Lenny said nothing as Eden stepped backwards.

Soon, a blue light hovered around the spot. Blue smoke accompanied it, and almost immediately a pond appeared.

The pond with blue sparkling water sat there before them, filled with an energy the both of them could feel.

It was a beautiful sight, one endowed with white smoke gently hovering around it.

"Is it a sauna or something?" Eden asked, surprised at how suddenly it had popped up.

"It’s the answers you’re looking for," Lenny said, staring at it proudly.

Eden glared at Lenny. "Huh? A bathtub is the answer to all my questions??"

Lenny blinked at it. "You know what, I’m not talking with you anymore. Get into it now."

Eden furrowed his brows. "Why would I get into a pond in the middle of nowhere? I didn’t say I needed a bath." He stared at the glittering pond.

"It’s a mystical pond that holds answers to whatever you’re looking for, at least. Your core is in there. So all you need is to jump in and you’ll be reborn," he explained.

Eden was quiet. He stood there staring into the pond for a while. "Is that so?"

He slowly bent down before the pond and ran his finger through the water. It glittered and sparked at his touch—Eden couldn’t see his reflection in the water. He saw no reflection.

"I guess it really is a mystical pond," Eden sighed. "I’ll be going in then."

Lenny flew and sat on a rock, watching him. "Good luck then. Tell me what you discovered when you’re done."

Eden said nothing; he gently stepped his feet into the pond and then the other. The water glittered more in reaction. Both his legs had already gone halfway and still no end; it was like an abyss. It didn’t seem as small in depth as its size.

"Are you sure this is safe? It seems extremely deep. Won’t I drown?" He turned to Lenny.

"Don’t worry, you won’t. Just jump in," Lenny explained.

Eden hesitated with a sigh and then nodded. He had taken some swimming lessons, so maybe he wouldn’t die from this.

He let go of himself and dipped into the pond, the water covering him up as it glowed with blue light.

Eden was soon out of sight.

The next time Eden opened his eyes, he could visibly see himself surrounded by water. A large body of it. All he could see was blue lights glowing around him. It was a pretty view in the silence where he couldn’t hear a thing.

He looked around in the water and tried moving, but suddenly he found himself drowning. He felt his feet pulling him down.

Eden panicked and tried kicking up, but to no avail.

He was slowly going down and he was losing consciousness as well. Soon, he couldn’t see a thing and he found everything around him fading off till his body and mind were numb.

MANY YEARS AGO 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Years ago, Mr. Albert had lost his sick wife after she gave birth to their first and only son. She died immediately after delivery. And so Albert was left alone with his son.

He was an ordinary man who sold stuff at the local market to raise his son. And he also was a dedicated religious man who always went to the temple to pray to the gods. He was extremely dedicated, so much so that the priests knew him well.

Mr. Albert was considered a religious and virtuous man, admired and loved by the people. Amidst the hard times in his business, he was still optimistic.

Life was never easy for a low-class man like him, but he still pushed through, optimistic and with hope and prayer to the gods.

A crisis hit and his son was diagnosed with an illness when he was still very young. The same illness his wife was diagnosed with five years before she died.

Panic engulfed him and he began searching through endless means to cure his son. He went to different physicians. The same and many more physicians he went to when his wife was ill.

The illness made his son weak always. Making him look sick and pale always. The little boy never looked healthy and wasn’t strong. He never went out to play with others and always lay in bed while his father took extreme care of him.

His father panicked that he’d lose his son like his mother. And he was always bothered about it. He couldn’t lose him after losing his wife. He’d lose everything then.

And so he did all his best to cure his son. Going to different physicians across kingdoms, seeking the best medical aids for him while applying them. He even went to all the priests he could find across countries, seeking prayers and religious guidance for his son. He said all the prayers he could pray, spent his time and offerings in the temple to the gods for help.

He did everything he could in his power to save his son. But time passed and nothing was working.

His son kept getting worse at his young age and it looked like his son would die in no time. Nothing he was doing was working, no medical aid was working and no religious intervention was happening.

He was losing himself in the sorrow and grief of watching his son die daily. Watching his son suffer in endless pain without any hope of healing.

He couldn’t bear that nothing was working for him. Everything was giving up on him, all medications weren’t working and the religious belief he had built his entire life was crumbling too.

He had prayed, he had called on the gods, the priests, all he believed in. But his son wasn’t getting better. They weren’t coming to his aid at all and Mr. Albert was giving up.
