Chapter 221: 221: Make a choice

The atmosphere was still. Everyone stood there while staring mainly at the direction of the Princes and the Wizard of EL. The tension was high as the silence grew. No one could tell what choice was going to be made and how all this was going to end.

Elvis was still, staring at King Edward, who also had his cold eyes on him. No one said anything for a while.

"Are you not going to make a choice? Or don’t you wish to?" King Edward finally spoke. His cold eyes were on his son.

"I don’t want to make the choice," Elvis said. "Because like I said, I can’t kill the Wizard of EL. At least not now. I hope you could at least understand that... Father."

King Edward scoffed. "So you’re rebelling against me now? Because of the Wizard of EL?" He was speechless.

King Edward said, "All these years which I’ve raised you with all I had, you had been obedient. Listening to my words and obeying them. But ever since the Wizard of EL stepped in, you’ve become rather audacious now."

"I’m only doing it for the benefit of everyone. I hope you understand, father," Elvis explained.

But King Edward scoffed. He wasn’t buying it. "It seems the rumours might be true after all." He now stared at Eden. "It seems you’ve been long seduced by this wizard here into harbouring disgusting feelings. That’s rather pathetic for someone who I expect to crown the next king of my land."

King Edward stared at Elvis. "How do you expect me to stand before my ancestors in pride after you bring shame upon me?"

"I’m not bringing any shame to you, father. Like I said, I’m just trying to be useful to you," Elvis emphasized again.

King Edward shook his head. "So then you don’t plan on letting go of that monster, do you?"

"No. I don’t. I would rather you all come for me than take him away from me. I am sorry but I won’t allow that, father. I’ll fight with all I have to protect him." Elvis’s cold eyes were on King Edward as he spoke.

His eyes were deep and rather serious. And his words were rather strong enough to make anyone fear whatever he would do to keep them.

And they were strong enough to at least make Eden melt. Eden sat there struggling not to be moved by the words. But it was rather hard.

He wanted to believe Elvis had said them to protect him as per their deal. Nothing more. He didn’t wish to believe those were genuine words you’d say to protect a lover.

Even though that was what it sounded like to Eden at the moment.

King Edward placed both hands behind his back as he stared at Elvis. "Okay. Then I’ll change the conditions."

Elvis and Eden stared at him, curious to hear what he had to say. Even Queen Lea stared curiously; she didn’t think she knew what her husband had planned to say.

"The Wizard of EL can return into my Palace and stay. But under the one condition that you honour the request of the Emperor," King Edward said.

While Elvis stared at his father, trying to understand where he was getting to, King Edward completed his words: "Marry the Imperial princess."

It was certainly something that Elvis, Eden, and Lysander had heard for the first time. So as they heard those words, they stared at King Edward in shock.

"What?" Elvis didn’t see that coming. "What do you mean...?"

"I mean my words. An Imperial order has arrived. And it demands you marry the Imperial princess this instant. I know you’ll likely rebel with this new rebellious nature you’ve cultivated. So why don’t we make it into a deal then?"

King Edward continued, "Agree to marry the Imperial princess and I’ll let that monster in with you. Everyone wins," he said.

Eden sat there, blinking. His brain didn’t seem to be getting whatever was happening right now. This part was in the novel.

There was a planned engagement between Elvis and the Imperial princess. But this wasn’t the nature at which it happened. Everything feels different.

In the original novel, a heavy political issue came about. And it led to an arranged marriage between Elvis and Cordelia.

At that moment, Elvis and Helen were pretty much in a secret relationship. So it was a blow to their relationship.

But as things went, Elvis found a way to ruin the engagement party on the day of the engagement. It was rather a messy occasion.

And it wasn’t supposed to happen again, right?!

So Eden didn’t understand why something like this was coming up again. It was supposed to happen a while back, but things had changed in the book so drastically, so Eden didn’t expect it to happen.

Helen wasn’t really in the picture anymore. So why would the author want to make use of this plotline? What was the author aiming to do with it?

It was previously used solely to create an obstacle in the love story between Helen and Elvis. So Elvis rejecting and ruining the engagement for Helen was a romantic spark of the plotline and a testimony of their love.

He did that because he loved Helen. Their romance was already blooming and all.

So Eden was pretty much worried that if this engagement happened, Elvis wouldn’t call it off. It would basically happen since he and Helen aren’t potentially in any heated romance for him to sacrifice it for her.

He has interrupted their romance! And Eden was certain that Elvis didn’t LOVE him to call off the engagement.

This plot still playing out was a mess for Eden because he could see his harem falling apart. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

If Elvis got engaged and potentially married to Cordelia, he’d potentially lose a powerful shield—he believed at least.

But Eden didn’t really wish to ask his heart if he objected to the marriage because he was scared of losing a shield or something else...
