Chapter 222: 222: Deal

"So? What do you say?" King Edward asked. "I’m waiting for your response."

Elvis hesitated, his eyes on his father as he thought of a response to give. It was rather tricky for him.

He knew this was the sole aim of his father. And if he refused to do it, his father might actually have the guards attack and endanger him and Eden.

Especially Eden...

He didn’t wish to risk it. Because he knew, no matter how strong he was and how much he could fight, he didn’t think he could go against all the guards his father would send against them.

"Okay," Elvis said randomly, to the surprise of everyone.

King Edward smiled. "That’s a good choice. Retreat," he said as the guards pulled back with their swords and all.

"Let the Princes back in and give them a warm welcome." King Edward had a smirk on his face as he stared at Eden. "...and the wizard too."

King Edward scoffed as he turned and walked back into the palace in the company of the guards around him.

Queen Lea hesitated. She glared at her son, pissed off. She wanted to go and pull his ears while pulling him away from Eden. But she also had something she wished to ask the King. And so she turned and walked back into the palace, following King Edward.

"Why?" Queen Lea asked as soon as she caught up with him. "Why did you give him such an easy option to let the wizard of EL in? You could have used that opportunity... And gotten something done..."

King Edward had both hands behind him as he majestically walked through the corridor. "This is a perfect opportunity," he smiled. "We couldn’t let him off. Inside the palace is where we need the Wizard of EL the most right now, since he didn’t die in the woods. I couldn’t let him go somewhere else."

"I guess it’s my luck that he keeps coming back here," King Edward scoffed.

Queen Lea was confused for a while, confused as to how Eden coming back here was something good for them. And just then she recalled something.

She stared at the King. "Do you mean... The priest?"

King Edward scoffed. "The Priest will be here in no time. And when he arrives, I expect a quick elimination of that wizard for good. But till then, let’s focus on making preparations for the engagement ceremony. It’s already fast approaching."

Eden arrived at his room, and the first thing he did on arrival was fall on the king-sized bed.

He rolled around the soft bed while enjoying every second of it against his body. He felt the warmth of it while enjoying its softness.

"I can’t believe I’m home again! I missed this place so much," he said, rolling around on the bed.

"It’s not your home, though," Lenny said, sitting on the bedside.

"Whatever. It still feels like home. I’ve been out for a while now. Feels good to be back," he smiled as he sat up. "I guess the palace, which should be the most dangerous place, has become the safest place."

Lenny sighed. "Probably because you have Elvis to save your ass every time."

"Is it?" Eden sat there in thought for a while. And then he couldn’t help but recall what he had heard a while ago.

"He’s getting married soon..." Eden said, his tone rather down.

"Mm-hmm," Lenny nodded. "The Engagement is already set. And it’s happening sooner than expected. I guess the Emperor doesn’t want to waste time."

"Yeah..." Eden said. "It was rather random. And now rushed. I wonder why the emperor is in a hurry to get his daughter married to Elvis that quick. Cordelia has been in love with Elvis for ages now. And all this while he hasn’t been in a hurry to fulfil her wish to marry him. But now he suddenly wants them to get married? I wonder why..." Eden was cracking his brain in thought.

"Isn’t the answer really easy?" Lenny asked. "It’s clearly because of you."

Eden stared at Lenny. "Me? How? Why?"

"It’s a wild guess. But I think the Emperor feels the easiest way to get to you is through Elvis. Rumours have already been out that the two of you are extremely close. Lovers, if I may say. So I think he’s already running out of patience with King Edward."

Lenny continued, "As an Emperor, he’s obviously too insecure to trust that King Edward will fully carry out his instructions without wanting to benefit from it or trick him. So he wants to get the job done himself, somehow."

Eden nodded. "So he wishes to bring Elvis closer through marriage so he can also pull me closer and potentially...get me himself?"

"Bingo," Lenny said.

Eden nodded in realisation. "Woah.. That’s a lot of plotting and thinking there. Why didn’t I think of that?" He stared at Lenny. "You really are smart."

Lenny shrugged. "I didn’t get to be your guide for nothing. I suppose they knew my wit’s worth."

Eden blinked at him. "Whatever." He turned and then sighed. "So now, do you think Elvis will go through with the marriage? Because in the original novel with the plotline, he rejected and messed up the marriage to be with Helen, whom he was secretly dating back then..."

Eden hesitated, as though unsure, but he said it anyway. "But since Helen isn’t in the picture... Do you think he’ll still go through with it?"

Lenny thought. "Hmmm. Based on how bumpy the plot is going, I have a feeling the marriage might go through. I mean, he hasn’t said he was gay, and he loves you enough to go against an imperial order... So I feel he might actually go through with it..."

Lenny was plain with his words, words that Eden knew were true. But at the same time, he didn’t wish to believe them.

And for some reason, Eden felt sad with that reality.
