Chapter 85: Meeting Again Even Though She’s Gone

When the weekend came, as Arcane and Donald had become quite close, he invited his father to visit his mother’s grave, or Wilona’s. Donald needed to know and see for himself where she was buried.

Without hesitation or any sign of refusal, he immediately accepted the invitation. He said he really wanted to go there and see for himself where she was now resting.

Julian, who knew about this idea, intended not to go with them and let them have some time alone as father and son to visit his mother’s grave.

However, Arcane wanted to invite Julian to come back to Wilona’s grave and introduce him as the man he truly loved at the moment.

"Okay! I’ll go with you to meet my mother in-law!" he replied enthusiastically.

"Good, good."

The three of them then left by train because it was much faster than using a car. The trip took 1 hour, until they finally arrived at the city station.

Donald looked around them, because he had never been to that city before. Although it was only a 4 hour drive by car, he had been too busy with his work to ever visit there.

"So this is the city where you were born?" he asked Arcane.

"That’s right. I was born here, and my mother raised me here. Her grave isn’t far from the station, because the cemetery is located around here," Arcane replied.

They then walked away toward a flower shop that Julian remembered Arcane visiting a year ago. He vividly remembered that the first time he came there was because he was following Arcane. He followed him like a stalker. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

DING!

Inside the shop, a large man was busy moving his flower pots. As soon as he heard the shop doorbell ring, he turned and smiled when he saw that it was Arcane. But this time he wasn’t alone.

"Oh Arcane! Have you come to visit your mother again?" he asked kindly because he was very afraid that every time the man came to his shop, he would give a flower to his mother.

"That’s right. As usual, I came to bring flowers for my mother. I want to order flowers as usual," replied Arcane.

"One bouquet of flowers coming up!" Peter, the florist, immediately prepared a bouquet of Wilona’s favorite red camellias.

Donald smiled because he knew very well that they were her favorite flowers. He also ordered a bouquet of red roses with baby’s breath.

"Oh, hello, sir, are you two friends? It’s unusual for Arcane to come with someone else," said Peter as he arranged the flowers that had been ordered.

That was when Arcane introduced the middle aged man beside him as hos father and the young man with green hair nearby as his own husband.

This surprised the florist, who was also happy for him. Finally, Arcane was able to find out who his father was, and now he was married.

"So he’s your father and husband? Now you have a complete family!" he said kindly as he handed them their order.

"Thank you. The flowers in your shop are so beautiful!" Julian took the flowers Arcane had ordered for him to carry. "You look great with sunflowers!"

Peter smiled shyly at Julian’s compliment, especially with his sweet smile. Arcane raised an eyebrow, seeing how his husband seemed to be flirting with another man.

"Okay, okay, let’s go now," he said jealously, pulling Julian’s collar to leave the shop.

Meanwhile, Donald chuckled softly, realizing that his son was jealous when he saw his husband glancing at another man.

They then went to the cemetery, which was not far from the flower shop. The middle aged man looked at the gate of the cemetery, and his smile seemed to disappear. Erasing by the reality that he was now standing in front of a place where the woman he loved lay forever.

Walking through the area, they stopped in the middle of the area with a tombstone that read "Wilona Romano". The woman’s photo was also still displayed in front of her own grave, with a face that smiled so sweetly.

"Hello, Mom, I’ve come to visit, and look who’s with me," said Arcane, his voice softening immediately.

At that moment, without saying a word, Donald fell to his knees beside her grave. His smile completely disappeared, replaced by a face contorted with pain as he realized that the woman he had waited for for decades was gone.

"Wilona... My Wilona..." he said tremulously, reaching for the photo frame on display and hugging it.

The photo was taken five years before her death, and now he could see the woman’s mature face. With his finger, he stroked the photo with a slight smile on his face.

"You’re still the same as before... So beautiful and gentle... So... So..."

Tears fell onto the photo, and he couldn’t continue speaking because his feelings were completely mixed up. There was a feeling of relief because he finally knew where she had gone. But there was also pain mixed in with his relief, because he knew she had been gone for so long without him knowing.

"I’m sorry for coming so late. I didn’t know you had left before me. Why didn’t you ever say anything? Why didn’t you tell me about carrying my child? Why... Why..."

Once again, he was overcome with tears, burying his face in the photo frame that couldn’t answer his questions. The photo could only stare back at him.

"If only you had told me about your situation at the time, that you were carrying my child. Things wouldn’t have turned out this way..."

"... Maybe... Maybe you would still be with me. We could have raised him together, gone through everything together, just like you always said."

He closed his eyes, imagining what might have been if he had been more sensitive and asked about Wilona sooner, after the incident on prom night. If only he had known about Wilona carrying his child, perhaps they would be a happy family now, together with Arcane and their other children.

Giving Arcane young siblings, spending their old age together. He imagined accompanying Wilona during her treatment, always being there for her.

However, reality did not match what happened. She was gone forever, and there was no point in imagining all those things except for the pain that would remain.

"Wilona... I’m sorry... I should have... been more attentive... If only I had been more sensitive, you wouldn’t have had to leave and bear all this burden alone."

He then took out a box from the bag he had been carrying since the beginning. It turned out to be a peach cake, Wilona’s favorite.

"Arcane said you really wanted to eat peach cake again, like at our third date. Unfortunately, that café has been closed for a long time, but... I brought you a cake that’s just as delicious..."

The cake was then placed on her grave, hoping Wilona would like it.

Arcane and Julian, who witnessed this, allowed Donald to pour out his heart, which he had held back for more than 25 years. Arcane himself felt a little shaken seeing how much his father loved his mother, even to the point of crying like that and bringing all the things she liked.

On the other hand, Julian held back tears while tightly gripping Arcane’s hand. Once again assuring him that he was there for him no matter what.
