What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 825: We’re Gonna Do Some Pest Control
I pulled on the lever to activate the lights and I almost expected to be attacked immediately when it came on but nothing happened.
I checked the rest of the room to make sure that there were no alien creatures and, seeing none, I relaxed a little.
Now that we have light, I tucked the dead guy’s personal terminal away in case I needed to call the captain again before I left the generator room with Yumiko.
The corridor was now lit up and we could advance without relying on our flashlights.
Both of us took a moment to make sure the coast was clear before we stepped out to continue our search of the place.
Just because we could see now, we still kept our guards up since we were dealing with an unknown enemy right now.
The captain’s description doesn’t help either aside from telling us that its a four legged creature and supposedly it has spikes for hands or something.
My imagination is just filling in the gaps where I’m thinking of some four legged rat with spikes jutting out from beside its head that it uses to swing around... Which doesn’t really look intimidating but I doubt that’s what it looks like anyway.
Since we have no idea where the creatures are, we would just have to search through the entire ship.
But well... Where do we start?
I mean... The creatures could be anywhere on the ship so where do we go to find them?
As though reading my mind, Yumiko suggested, "Mistress... We can head to their security room and check their cameras. We should be able to use the camera feeds to look for those creatures."
I suppose that’s a place to start.
I took out the other guy’s personal terminal and I realised I had to unlock it again so I went back to his corpse to do so before I started another call with the freighter captain again.
The call only rang once before the other side answered the call.
The screen appeared and the captain looked at me worriedly, "Are you alright?"
It took me a moment to realise that he thought we were attacked by the creatures right after turning on the lights and we might be calling for help.
"Yes, we’re fine. I’m just calling to ask where your ship’s security room is at so we can access the surveillance systems. That would help us find the creatures faster instead of just wandering around the ship hoping to run into them."
"You’re... You’re going to hunt for them?"
I frowned, "Wasn’t that what you wanted us to do?"
"I mean.. You’re hunting for them while the lights are on? I think it would be more like they would be hunting you instead... You know what... I actually think it would be a better idea if you just shut off the lights and come escort us to your ship instead... Then we can blow the ship up from a distance. That’s better right?"
"You don’t care that you would be losing your ship if we go with that plan?"
"Fuck... If I had to choose between myself or my ship, I would obviously choose myself!"
I turned to Yumiko, wondering if we should just go with the captain’s plan instead.
She thought about it for a moment before shrugging, "Perhaps we should just go with our original plan first and see if we can spot the creature? After that, we can decide on whether we should engage it or escape the ship with the crew?"
I nodded, "Sounds good. It’s safer for us if we know where the creatures are as well so we don’t accidentally take a route that would run into them if we’re trying to leave."
The captain seemed to agree with that train of thought, "I see! Yes, this sounds like a good idea! Ah, that’s right, you’re using the personal terminal of one of my crew members aren’t you? There should be a map of the ship inside it, you can use it to find your way. Actually, why don’t you just add me as a contact in your own personal terminal? I can send it to you directly."
I grimaced, wondering if it would be a good idea to add a smuggler’s contact to my Codex.
Then I remembered that I have two Psionics who are basically wanted by two different organisations and a former Pirate Lord on my crew so having a smuggler as a contact should be the least of my worries.
I shrugged and added him to my list of contacts on my Codex before I also went ahead to transfer the ship’s map to my Codex for better navigation.
As I was doing that though, I heard soft thumping sounds coming from outside the doorway and both Yumiko and I immediately turned to look at it.
The captain must have also heard the sounds from his side of the call and he visibly panicked.
"Quick!! Hide before it finds you!!"
I couldn’t help but snort at him, "Where do you think we can even hide in here?"
It’s not like there’s anywhere inside this generator room where we could hide...
The door slid open to reveal a brown coloured creature stepping inside the generator room.
Ok... So... Once I saw how the creature looked like, I guess I can forgive the captain for not knowing how to describe the creature.
The best way that I can describe it is that it’s like a hairless, brown rat but with longer fore legs and there were two spindly arms right above the mentioned forelegs that ended in scythes.
Its head in particular also looked like a cross between a rat and a mantis. By that, I mean it had the snout of a rat but the place where the eyes were jutted out and were bulbous in shape like a mantis.
I was wondering if this creature was even some kind of science experiment gone wrong or something.
The bulbous eyes immediately shifted towards us and the creature let out a loud growl before it suddenly lunged forward at us, its scythe arms slashing through the air.
My gun was already raised so it was a simple thing for me to pull the trigger, the buckshots pelting the creature and blasting it in the face and chest.
The creature stumbled back from the blow but it immediately let out a hiss to reveal that the pellets only left wounds that were skin deep and were not enough to kill it.
Too bad for the creature, I was expecting something like that given what the Captain had said about their guns not working on this creature so the next round that was fired out from the barrel was a slug round instead.
The slug pierced through its skin and embedded itself into its body, sinking a few inches and leaving a small hole at where it entered where it remained stuck somewhere inside its body.
The creature let out a low growl of pain but that was still not a fatal wound as it recoiled before trying to lunge at us again.
Yumiko stepped in front of me and slashed her sword towards the creature in two quick slashes, cutting off the scythe arms in a flash.
The creature stopped and looked down at its arms as though wondering why its arms had suddenly disappeared without warning.
Before it could comprehend it, I had pulled the trigger again, this time taking aim at its head blowing its head out with another slug round.
The headless creature stumbled back a few steps before it crashed onto the ground in a heap, black blood spurting out from where its neck where its head had been.
I kept my gun pointed at the creature just in case that thing wasn’t dead yet but after a minute passed where the only movement that came from it was the spurting of the blood, I lowered my gun and relaxed slightly.
"Guess those things can be killed," I commented, more to address the captain who I had kept the call connected for so that he could witness the entire thing.
Yumiko looked down at her swords, "It’s easy to cut through them as well. I will have no problems with them, Mistress."
I turned to nod at the Captain, "Alright, that means we’ll be doing some pest extermination. You said there were around eight of these things, right?"
The captain nodded dumbly, his mouth still shocked at what just happened.
Not sure what’s so surprising about a creature’s head being blown open by a slug round but what do I know?
"Alright then, we’ll head towards the security room to check your security feed and do some pest control. You just sit tight at where you are and get ready some Credits to pay for this pest extermination job, yeah?"
"O... Ok..."
I was joking about the Credits but hey, if he’s going to give me some, I wasn’t going to say no~
Still... I don’t know why he made such a big deal about this? These creatures don’t actually look that threatening?
