[BL] Mr. Romano Contracted Husband-Chapter 86: Life Must Go On
For nearly two hours, they spent their time at the cemetery, specifically at Wilona’s grave. Donald seemed reluctant to leave the place, sitting beside her and staring at her photo.
Arcane felt he couldn’t disturb his father, who was grieving after learning that his mother had passed away.
He let the man stay there until they would eventually go home. During that time, Arcane could feel his mother’s presence near them.
’Are you happy now, Mom? I managed to bring Dad back to meet you. You must be sitting with us now, right?’ he thought.
He could almost see the image of his mother wearing a beautiful white dress, sitting on her own gravestone while stroking the head of the man she loved. She smiled softly, trying to comfort him so he would no longer feel sad.
"I forgive you," she whispered sweetly in his ear.
After feeling better, they went to Grandma’s restaurant. There, they were welcomed warmly, especially after learning about who Donald was. With a joyful smile on her face, Grandma hugged the man and said that she was finally able to meet him.
She was also happy because Arcane’s life was now much better than before. He had Julian with him, and now his father was there for him too. She felt so relieved.
"I can die peacefully now that I know Arcane has a family of his own. I can die with such relief," she said.
"Don’t say things like that, Grandma! You can’t die until you’re 100 years old!" Julian tried to protest, but Arcane immediately warned him not to speak carelessly.
The middlebaged man who was with them immediately grabbed the old woman’s hands, thanking her for accepting Wilona and Arcane. He was even willing to replace all the money that Wilona and Arcane might use while living with her.
However, she refused him gently.
"No need, they are staying with me but also working at my restaurant. Besides, I don’t have much time to use the money I have because when I die, there will be no one to continue my restaurant," she replied.
She felt she was too old to use all the money she had, and her grandchildren had also moved to the big city to start their own businesses.
That day, they spent the rest of their time at the restaurant having lunch together. Grandma and Donald seemed to hit it off easily, especially since Grandma shared many stories about Arcane, from when he was a child until he left home to go to college.
"When he was 10 years old, he once wet himself because he was afraid to go to the bathroom," he said with a laugh.
"Really? Ahahaha... He’s so cute," replied Donald, laughing.
Meanwhile, Arcane felt embarrassed hearing all those stories, which she still remembered vividly.
"They became close very quickly, didn’t they? Your father also seems very curious about your childhood," Julian commented as he watched the two people busy talking about little Arcane.
"You’re right. He seems very enthusiastic to know a lot about me. Do you think this is a good thing?" the man asked him.
Julian nodded, saying that it meant Arcane’s father cared deeply about him. He wanted to know everything about his son that he had missed out on for 26 years.
"That means he seriously wants to get to know you. To repair the relationship between you, and to find out many things he didn’t get to know all this time. Just look at his face, he’s been smiling brightly with enthusiasm," replied Julian.
Arcane’s green eyes glanced at his father, and he felt that what Julian said was true. Maybe there was nothing wrong with really getting along well with his father.
Because some customers came in, Grandma had to return to the kitchen and Donald turned to his son.
"It turns out you have so many abilities that even I didn’t know about. I feel so proud of you," he said with a smile.
Even though at the same time he also felt so disappointed and sad because he couldn’t be there for his son’s life. However, Arcane said that his father didn’t need to think about all that anymore, because it was all in the past.
"Life must go on. You don’t need to know much about my past, we can just start anew from now on. Maybe by making our own memories, starting from today," he said.
Julian agreed with that. Knowing about the past was fine, but what was most important was the present and the future. Donald could start all of that from scratch with Arcane, because he was now part of his family too.
Creating new memories that may not change the past, but can change a person’s heart and their future.
"You’re right. Maybe it’s better to focus on the present and the future, rather than thinking about the past that can’t be regained." He then turned to Arcane and looked at him.
"Do you really want to accept me into your life? Accept me as your father, start a life like a real father and son. I don’t want to force you to do it if you don’t want to," he continued, asking for her opinion.
Without thinking about the answer he wanted to give, Arcane immediately agreed to the request, which surprised Donald but also made him very happy.
The reason he immediately accepted the request was because he no longer felt hesitant to be around him. Donald had shown him why his mother still loved him even at the end of her life. He now understood what his mother saw in that man.
"What happened in the past was not your fault, nor was it my mother’s fault. Maybe she made a small mistake by making her own decision without discussing it with you. But she did all that to protect you, and you are not at fault at all because you knew nothing," he replied.
His words were enough to make Donald’s tears flow again, feeling so touched by Arcane’s words to him. Although he still felt guilty because he should have been more sensitive and attentive to Wilona after they made love on prom night.
"Thank you... I’m really grateful," he said, immediately hugging his son.
At first, Arcane felt a bit stiff when he was hugged like that. He wasn’t someone who enjoyed being hugged, except by Julian. But slowly, he relaxed and returned his father’s hug.
Julian, who witnessed this, felt touched and happy for the two of them.
’Good... I feel relieved that everything is okay,’ he thought at that moment.
However, suddenly he felt something in his chest, like something bad was about to happen in the near future.
But he tried to dismiss the feeling and not think about it too much.
’How strange.’
