Chapter 685: Chapter 580: He Got Bitten Back by a Donkey! (First Update)

What does Tong Airui want to talk to Yi Luowa about? Obviously, it’s about Senior Justin.

The two sat cross-legged on the bed, and Tong Airui said seriously to his wife, "I’m really perplexed as to why Justin is so invested in your affairs!"

Yi Luowa responded without hesitation, "One: His family has always seen me as their benefactor, when in fact, the real benefactor is you. Two: He’s my senior; he doesn’t just care about me, he also cares a lot about Huo Li."

Tong Airui raised a brow slightly, "Looks like you’ve already got your answers prepared."

"There’s no need to think; it’s plainly obvious." Yi Luowa gave him a light shove. "Move over; I want to lie down. I haven’t slept on this comfy big bed for days."

Tong Airui didn’t budge. "I’m not done talking yet. Sit properly!"

"You talk; I’ll listen while lying down." Yi Luowa lifted one side of the blanket and slipped under it.

Lying on the bed, Yi Luowa stretched comfortably. "So cozy! I can’t, this bed is too comfortable—anything less than a first-class sleep would be a disgrace to it."

Tong Airui glanced at her sideways and saw her hand reaching under the blanket, soon tossing out a nightgown.

Sly Master Tong turned his head away, refusing to look at her. Don’t think he doesn’t know—this was her way of purposefully teasing him to avoid further conversation.

Yi Luowa’s eyelids were fighting to stay open, on the verge of closing when Master Tong reached out to pry them open. "No sleeping! Think carefully: Did Justin really never approach you actively during your school days?"

"Tong Airui, just kill me already! How many times have I said it—I wasn’t close to him; we barely talked. If you don’t believe me, go ask Huo Li! Or do you want me to call her right now?"

Yi Luowa grabbed his wrist and bit him hard. "Are you letting me sleep or not? If not, I’ll run outside like this, and we’ll see which one of us will lose face!"

"Fine, I’ll trust you this time. Go to sleep!" Tong Airui finally lay back down.

Yi Luowa took a deep breath, turned her head, and looked at him. "You say sleep, so sleep? I’m being subjected to inhuman treatment; if I can’t feel comfortable, then neither should you!"

"From now on, keep your distance from Justin, and I won’t hassle you."

"We don’t even exchange calls anymore; what more distance do you want me to keep? Tong Airui, can’t you be a little less petty? I’m already a mother of two kids—who’d be blind enough to take an interest in me? Only you still see me as a treasure!"

"My wife is indeed a treasure!"

"Mhmm, your wife is a treasure!"

"Sigh..." Tong Airui shook his head helplessly. "Sleep. I can’t stop others from liking you, but I can strive to be better myself. When the time comes, even if you’re faced with immense temptation, you wouldn’t bear to leave me."

Yi Luowa tilted her head to look at him and said word by word, "No amount of temptation matters to me—I’m yours in life and your ghost in death! You should feel reassured now, right?"

Tong Airui’s lips curved slightly as he leaned in to kiss her forehead. "With that statement, I feel much better. However..."

"However, what?"

"Nothing. Just with that, everything else doesn’t matter anymore. Sleep, and tomorrow, sleep in as long as you want."

"I don’t have to go to work?"

"Mm, I’ll give you a day off."

"Then, I’ll sleep now."

"Go to sleep."

Yi Luowa really fell asleep, but Tong Airui couldn’t sleep at all. After lying down for a while, he got up as dawn began to break.

Justin was still asleep when his phone’s ringing woke him. Groggy, he glanced at his phone, only to instantly become alert.

"Luowa, calling so early—what’s up?"

"...My wife is still sleeping."

Hearing Tong Airui’s voice on the line, Justin frowned slightly. "What happened?"

Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly and chuckled deeply, "Nothing much. I woke up early and thought to chat with you."

"You really know how to torment people!" Justin turned over, got out of bed, poured a glass of water and took a sip. "Alright, spill—what do you want to talk about?"

"Can you guess who was behind Nancy’s death?"

"It’s definitely not you or me!"

"Can we have a proper conversation?"

"You’ve been investigating for ages and don’t know. How would I know?"

"I think you know as much as I do."

"If that’s what you believe, then there’s nothing I can do."

"We once talked about my wife, didn’t we? Back then, you openly told me that you had no feelings for her. Can you repeat that now?"

Justin paused briefly, then grinned and asked, "Did a screw loose in your brain?"

"I accidentally came across a chat site for your alumni and saw things I probably shouldn’t have..."

"Since you know you shouldn’t look, why did you?"

"When it’s about my wife, how could I not look? Do you know—now wherever people bring up Luowa’s name, my computer alerts me. What’s worse is there’s a laundry detergent brand also called Luowa. It’s driving me crazy—my computer’s constantly dinging and buzzing."

"Pfft—" Justin couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

"Do you want to know what they’ve been chatting about?"

"No, I don’t. You already said it’s not worth seeing, so why would I want to know even more?"

"I bet you’re curious, though. If you want to know, you can check out your alumni chat forum yourself."

"Nah, you might as well tell me. I just can’t bother with gossip."

Tong Airui switched his phone to his other hand. "I always wondered how my wife could have had no pursuers in college. After seeing the chats, I finally understood—it was all thanks to you. You helped her ward off those rotten suitors."

Justin grabbed his water glass, downed the rest, and then chuckled, "You should thank me, really. Do you know the kind of people trying to pursue her? Not one of them was presentable! I only intervened because she and Huo Li saved my little sister. By the way, didn’t anyone mention that I also helped Huo Li fend off some undesirable suitors?"

"You helped Huo Li block rotten suitors too?"

"What did you think? With how stunning Luowa and Huo Li both were, do you think no one pursued them in school? I’m exhausted now; skip the thanks. Here’s an idea—when I visit Xiawu, treat me to dinner."

And before Tong Airui could say anything else, Justin directly pressed the power button to shut off his phone. Inside his room, he paced like a restless beast before heading straight to his desk, powering on his computer and logging onto the alumni forum Tong Airui mentioned.

As soon as he logged in, a private message popped up.

Luowa: (scheming) Senior, I knew you’d come!

Justin slammed his fist onto the desk, rubbed his knuckles, then typed a few words into the keyboard: Where’s that part? Let me see who’s been spreading gossip behind my back!

Luowa: I’ve tracked down the culprit’s identity—Prime Minister Gangcun’s soon-to-be daughter-in-law.

Justin: Are they trying to use this nonsense to ruin our ironclad triangle relationship?

Luowa: You guessed it! But this rumor isn’t entirely baseless—I mean, you did certain things for me.

Justin: I have nothing but a clean conscience with Luowa. There’s really no reason for you to be jealous.

Luowa: Am I jealous? My wife being fondly remembered by such an extraordinary prince of the Northern Kingdom—I ought to feel deeply honored.

Justin: Well, then, enjoy your honor! I haven’t slept well for three days and nights—I’m going back to bed now.

Luowa: Keep your phone on. I might need to reach you anytime!

Justin: You’re nuts! I’m not your wife—why would you need to contact me? By the way, since you’re always messing with Luowa’s phone and her website passwords, should I tell her? Want me to say something on your behalf?

Luowa: My wife is mine; would she care about little things like that?

Justin: (disdain)

Tong Airui looked at Justin’s grayed-out avatar and chuckled softly as he closed the social app.

Justin was definitely someone with a lot of stories—a puzzle difficult to decipher. But his concern for Luowa wasn’t fake.

Justin and Luowa both claimed that this concern stemmed from Joyina, yet Tong Airui felt it was only one factor among others. The other factor, as their alumni speculated, was that Justin probably had feelings for Luowa.

Tong Airui rested his cheek on his hand. If this piece of information had come from someone else, he might have taken it more seriously. But it originated from Prime Minister Gangcun’s soon-to-be daughter-in-law, so his view was somewhat ambiguous.

Tong Airui smirked. Regardless of Justin’s intentions, he’d already given him a good shake-up. Though it made Tong Airui just as unsettled, knowing Justin felt discomfort as well unexpectedly lifted Master Tong’s spirits.

The childish Master felt like he’d won a triumphant battle, humming a cheerful tune as he returned to the bedroom.

As soon as he stepped in the door, he saw his wife bundled up in the covers, sitting on the bed, glaring coldly at him.

"Wife, why are you awake?" Tong Airui rushed over to the bed.

Yi Luowa glanced at the phone in his hand. "What were you doing with my phone?"

"Making a call? Only after stepping out did I realize I’d grabbed the wrong one. I didn’t come back to switch because I didn’t want to wake you up."

Yi Luowa chuckled. "My phone’s on the bedside table on my side, yours is on yours. Did you sleepwalk to grab the wrong one early this morning?"

Tong Airui looked puzzled. "Uh? That’s not right—your phone was clearly together with mine. You must’ve remembered wrong."

"Tong Airui, you’re just a childish clown! Waking up early to make unnecessary calls, how long are you planning to dwell on this trivial nonsense?"

His wife was genuinely angry now. Tong Airui frowned slightly and reached for his phone.

Last received call: Justin—the donkey.

Time: 5:30. Just after he logged off, he’d already called back.

Tong Airui’s mouth twitched. That donkey had bitten him back!
