Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 81: Lieutenant Brambus I
Miranda glared at him lightly when she heard his words, spinning her body around and sawing through a massive ball of lightning that came crashing in from the side. She kicked off the ground and charged towards its sender, proceeded to beat them to death with the crowbar before dragging their corpse on the ground as she returned to Jamie and replied.
"I’d have you know I was relatively normal as a child. Till I met you, that is..."
"So, you do know you’re not normal?"
The two carried on like she didn’t just murder a being capable of bringing down a whole mountain with a crowbar, much to the shock of everyone watching (those whose opponents had been unceremoniously butchered by Miranda.)
"Come on, Jay. I’m self-aware of at least that much."
She folded her hands in front of her chest and spoke with a pout, an expression that didn’t seem to match the situation with bloodstained items in her hands.
Items which she dropped to the floor in the next moment, whilst turning around and raising her hands towards the monster that came barrelling at her from behind.
’What’s she gonna bring out this time...’
The answer to Jamie’s question, came in the form of a T-shaped hand tool with a metal head, attached perpendicularly to a longer handle.
"A goddamn pickaxe."
His words were synchronous with the sound of the pickaxe cracking through someone’s cranium and piercing through to the back of their head.
To Jamie and Miranda, all of this was just fun and games, but for the Dragon Army and the Liberation Front...it was far from it.
The woman was casually killing Third and Semi-Second Grade threats to their world while having a conversation with Jamie who was maintaining a barrier that prevented Legendries from escaping.
Just when Trisgella was about to speak up and give orders to the other Liberation Front Third Classes, his whole body suddenly shook.
Not just him, but everyone else on the battlefield who was in his realm of power.
It was the instinctive reaction they had towards what they had felt coming.
Their gaze all turned towards the sky, just in time to see it split ’open’. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Anda held up his walkie-talkie and told the people on the other end of it to ’get ready’.
Simultaneously, Jamie held up his hand and spoke.
"I’d rather you didn’t break my barrier."
He waved his hand and the top part of the barrier opened up, allowing entry to the existences who were about to attack it.
This also allowed the horrible aura they emitted to descend upon the battlefield, pressing down on all existences there and commanding absolute silence.
This silence was broken a second later, with words that were basically a death sentence for all those present.
[Pseudo-Authority of Destruction: Eradication Torrent]
The voice from the gap in the sky made Trisgella shiver just by hearing it, but he quickly snapped out back to reality when he sensed the destruction law energy building up.
If there was one thing that set normal Transcendents aside from the Avatar Transcendents; the reason why despite the fact that they were in the same realm, some were considered ’Semi-First’ while others were just ’First Grade’, then this was it.
The ability to use the techniques that came with an Authority, even if a watered-down version of it.
A storm of radiant ethereal projectiles imbued with the inviolable power of the law that governed destruction within the universe was conjured in the sky above.
Each projectile was primed to trigger an explosion that disintegrated everything it touched on a molecular level.
Those caught in its path had virtually no chance of survival.
Be they Dragons, their allies, or the Liberation Army.
Sure, the projectiles were aimed at everything ’non-dragon’, but it wasn’t like everyone was going to stand still and wait so there were bound to be draconic casualties.
And just like that, the projectiles descended faster than Anda could spread out his energy to create any defences, even the hidden transcendents were a beat late in reacting as they did not expect that person to enter the scene with such a deadly indiscriminate attack.
Looking at this, Jamie sighed internally.
’It’s a Transcendent’s attack. One with a Pseudo-Authority at that. Redirecting it is impossible for the current me.’
Tendrils of azure blue energy snaked around his arm, crackling like lightning and distorting the space around him as he raised his hand.
"If that’s the case, then I’d send it to nothingness."
With his hand pointed towards the rapidly descending projectiles, he snapped his fingers and called out.
*SNAP!
"Void."
The ambient spatial law energy that was dispersed by the destructive torrent raining down was quickly drawn back into the area, recondensing and increasing the overall energy concentration instantly.
This energy then converged at multiple points, each convergence blooming into mesmerizing blue vortexes that shimmered with light, their centres, being abyssal voids devoid of light or substance within them.
The Eradication Torrent descended right into the portals that yawned open before them and vanished into the darkness beyond.
After this, the portals all snapped shut and the brilliant blue energy disappeared as abruptly as it had appeared, after having devoured the sudden attack.
Simultaneously, the appearances of the new entrants to the battlefield were finally revealed as they descended into Fusevale, but the scene of destruction they had expected was not one they met.
Instantly, they figured the reason was the portals rimmed with blue light that vanished right after one another.
There was a total of four creatures, three of them being colossal beasts boasting hefty frames, clad in dark red scales. They sported imposing bat-like wings, razor-sharp claws, and menacing spiked tails poised for piercing.
As for the fourth, that one was a large humanoid with small horns jutting out of his skull, and his arms partially covered in scales.
The largest of the group landed atop a hilly pile of debris, probably the remnants of multiple high-rise buildings lumped together.
On his sides, the other three descended to the ground, their gazes locked onto the form of the First Class Anda who had revealed himself.
Immediately after, they flapped their wings, intending to take off and charge towards the lone man, however, the voice of the one on the pile of debris rang out.
"Hold it, both of you."
By his command, the two remained still, though their gazes remained locked on the airborne Liberation Front Commander.
"That technique..."
The middle dragon, not just a normal one but a ’High’ breed, thought with narrowed eyes as he watched the last projectile vanish into the void beyond the portals.
Wormhole generation was a technique that most advanced-level spatial manipulators could use, but what he had just seen, was something even higher than that.
’Expert...no Master Level. That darkness beyond the portals...that was Void Manipulation.’
However, it was not the fact that it was Void Manipulation that had him wary, but the sound he had heard before it.
’That snapping sound that strangely rings out across a wide area, followed by the instantaneous generation of an array of portals leading to the void, each rimmed with that azure blue energy.’
He only knew one person who fit those characteristics.
Normally, he would have only been wary after seeing such a technique, and not think too deeply about it, but a Colleague of his had disappeared a few days ago, after taking with her an item that was developed to deal with the being he had in mind.
His aura scanned the entirety of Ridrea in an instant, surveying all the battlefields from Fusevale to the country’s borders, and the feedback he received was one he dreaded.
’Two blank spots of ’nothing’ in my perception range...fuck.’
The thought speed of a Transcendent Realm existence was leagues above normal, so although he had gone through a lot in his mind, not more than five seconds had passed since the first two words he uttered.
Enough time for his eyes to lock onto the figure of the woman standing in one of the blank spots in his aura perception.
She dropped the pickaxe in her hands to the ground and stepped forward, cracking her fingers as she spoke.
"Why, Hello there, Lieutenant Brambus. Mind coming down here so you can answer my questions?"
A purple-coloured haze of dense energy slowly rose from her body, and with each step she took, the feeling of suppression she emanated intensified.
"I’d give you a hint to jog your memory, I don’t want any wrong answers, after all."
The words she spoke next answered the question of what had happened to his missing colleague.
"It has to do with ’Ruindeum Shells, and Slayer Race Factors’."
"?!"
Everything clicked in Brambus’ head. The presence of the ’Twilight Empress’ here, Pirantu’s actions before her disappearance, and that unforgettable finger-snapping sound.
’He’s here as well!’
"Hmm...mind temporarily returning to your humanoid form, let me see if I’d be able to recognize who you are."
