Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 80: Unsheathe the Chainsaw
Jamie just blankly stared at the woman in silence, before pressing his fingers towards his forehead.
"Well, I’d be damned."
Merely thinking of having to deal with Miranda’s elder siblings was already giving Jamie a headache; that’s just how much he wasn’t good with them.
’Damn Sis-cons, the lot of them!’
He then clicked his tongue before looking at the sky, straight towards Anda and speaking.
"You over there, hold this guy for me."
Spatial energy wrapped around Navarre and his body floated high up into the clouds, stopping right in front of the surprised Anda.
Jamie then redirected his focus to the battle they had interrupted not too long ago, looking towards the dragons who were being strangely docile.
He noticed that the one who had his arm blown off by Trisgella was signalling the others not to move while keeping his gaze fixed on Miranda.
The reason was simple; he could sense that she was a Transcendent.
And he knew how wide the gap between the Superior Stage of the Sovereign Realm and the inferior stage of the Transcendent Realm was.
It was greater than the gap between a Sovereign and a Grandmaster; that wide.
The reason being that at the peak of the Sovereign Realm, one could not proceed to transcendence until they proved their qualifications to surpass Mortality.
Sovereigns were the peak of Lower Existences, with Transcendents being the transition stage between Lower and Higher, though it was still classified under the Lower Existence Realms.
What’s more, there was a difference in power between merely controlling ambient law energy and controlling the energy one possessed from comprehending the law itself. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Except in special circumstances, and with Nonstandard type existences, this difference was usually ridiculously hard to breach.
’And I’m no nonstandard.’
The dragon thought to himself, hoping that the ones who had escaped when the barrier was down were able to get to where Brambus was and inform him of the situation.
’Speaking of barriers, that guy is unconscious...how is his Bounded Field still active?!’
It was then that he finally noticed the strangeness of the current situation, that the Bounded Field covering the entirety of Fusevale was still active despite the fact that Navarre was out of commission.
As if on cue, someone else voiced out his thoughts and the realisation dawned on everyone.
The answer to his question came from Jamie’s next action.
Our resident Hybrid casually tapped the floor with his foot, sending an array of energy pulses flowing through the ground and into the barrier surrounding them,
Seeing this, a terrifying conjecture bloomed within the Dragon’s mind.
In the instant Navarre fell unconscious, Jamie had silently raised a normal spatial barrier that looked and felt exactly like Navarre’s, thus the reason they had not noticed it.
The man’s spatial proficiency was high enough to easily do this.
Now then, Miranda had made a statement earlier that was practically declaring her intention to side with the Liberation Front, meaning she was the enemy of the Dragon Army and their allies.
However, the dragons were currently hesitant to attack her because of her transcendent status, especially since there were no other transcendents present on the battlefield.
In the Fusevale Bastille, there were a total of three transcendents. Brambus, and two other young dragons from Estea.
However, none of the three was present at the moment.
So, the Dragon Army in Fusevale currently had no means to resist the might of a Transcendent.
The peak Sovereign dragon cursed internally, wondering why it had to be today of all days that Brambus took the other two transcendents with him.
Of course, it was precisely because they knew the other two were not around that the Liberation Front launched their attack, but there was no need for him to know this.
"All right, shall we begin?"
Miranda clapped and spoke, drawing all attention towards her. The Sovereign Dragons roused their energies in preparation for a battle they were sure to lose.
Thoughts of fleeing crossed their minds, but they needed to take Jamie out first, and with how close he was to Miranda, they didn’t think anything they could do would go unnoticed by her.
The woman also had no intention of giving them enough time to figure out a proper plan of action.
A small black portal manifested in the air in front of her, one she dipped her hands into and pulled out a...device.
Seeing the thing now in her hands, Jamie was barely able to resist his urge to start laughing.
Miranda usually fought with some... ’less than traditional weapons’.
Bringing a gun to a sword fight was one thing, but Miranda—
**VRRRRRMMMMM!!!!
—The woman pulled out a freaking chainsaw.
"Wait...what?"
Those were the last two words of the unfortunate Legendary Realm Dragon, mere seconds before Miranda’s chainsaw unceremoniously sawed through her skull.
Switching off the device, the hybrid flicked the blood and brain matter off it before muttering in a low voice.
"The teeth are not as sharp as I expected, but this would do."
Immediately after, she revved it up once more, the sound of the engine snapping the dumbfounded dragons out of their daze and prompting them to weave their roused energies into magic circles.
Dozens of Tier 3 and 4 magic circles of various elements manifested in the air around her, but Jamie interfered, holding up two fingers and swinging his arm around her.
A slash of spatial energy tore through the air, splitting apart any physical matter or energy caught within the severed spatial area, magic circles included.
With the magic spells forcefully destroyed and each one of their casters feeling the backlash, Miranda locked onto one as a target and crouched lightly, launching her body forward like a spring in the next moment.
[Are you mocking us?!]
The Peak Sovereign Dragon was the first to recover from the backlash, launching his massive frame off the ground and swinging his claws still encased in Ruindeum-made apparatus towards Miranda.
Claws and chainsaw blades clashed, sending sparks of energy searing through the air. Miranda quickly removed one hand from the handle and pulled it back with the other hand, spinning it around in the air before slashing down with the chainsaw once more.
The dragon activated a skill and blocked the chainsaw once more, about to throw in a counter when Miranda’s voice floated over to his ears
"You blocked it again? Cool! I was wondering if I’d get a chance to bring out the other ones."
’The other what?!’
The dragon released an energy burst to knock Miranda back, sending her body tumbling through the air before taking distance from her.
Mid-flight, Miranda flipped her body around, tossing the chainsaw back into her subspace and dragging out another questionable weapon from within.
All this was done before in the span of time It took her to make a full revolution after flipping her body around.
Her feet landed on the ground, sliding backwards a bit before she slammed into the back of another random dragon.
Then at a speed faster than anyone could catch, she backstabbed two long pieces of metal into the dragon’s body, infusing her purple-coloured magic power into it as her lips parted to say one word.
"Burn."
**BOOMM!!
The Dragon’s body was engulfed in bright purple flames that ignited into an explosion after merely a second.
She then pulled her hands forward, ignoring the pieces of burning flesh raining down from above as she revealed the appearance of the new ’weapons’ in her hands.
[...crowbars?]
Miranda tossed one of the crowbars into the air and caught it, before blitzing towards the side of one of the nearby dragon kin and bashing his skull in with the sharp tip.
The ground beneath her feet crumbled from the shockwaves her swing released, but by the time it had swallowed the remaining dragons nearby, she was already well on to her next target.
The sound of the chainsaw engine revving up rang out, followed by a gruesome spectacle as a poor creature’s head was sawed in two faster than it could react.
Simultaneously, Miranda’s other hand was stabbing the crowbar’s curved edge into the chest of another person who had tried attacking her, after breaking through the seven defensive magic circles he had placed in front of him.
With a bloodstained chainsaw in one hand and a crowbar in another, Miranda certainly gave off the feeling of a ’Special’ threat, in more ways than one. Especially since she had used those two items to butcher half a dozen dragons in less than a minute.
"Dual wielding a crowbar and a chainsaw? This is a first."
Jamie’s off-handed comment had Miranda turning in his direction, her crowbar-wielding hand drawing a circle in the air and invoking a spell to generate purple flames that seared through all those who attacked her from behind as she replied.
"In the past few thousand years, I decided to take the saying ’Never let them know your next move’ to a whole new level.
This is the end result."
"I don’t think it’s just in the ’past few thousand’ years. You’ve always been like this since we were kids."
