Chapter 40: Chapter 39: Corrupted

Si Shuo couldn’t help but laugh, grabbing Xu Chi’s ears and wiggling them from side to side. "Are you still the same Xu Chi I first met? You’ve been corrupted!"

Xu Chi looked at the young woman in his arms, unable to stop himself from lowering his head and affectionately rubbing his nose against hers. His voice was inexplicably husky as he said, "Si Shuo, you’re so beautiful."

Actually, the heritage passed down from his ancestors wasn’t entirely complete. Everyone tended to cover up the more private parts, and on top of that, he had always lived alone, avoiding other Beastmen while he traveled. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

He didn’t know what he yearned for; he only wanted to taste that appetizer again, even if the young woman truly couldn’t resist devouring him whole.

Si Shuo saw that the corners of his eyes had turned red, yet he was still holding her so properly. She pressed her lips together, leaned in, and gave him a light peck.

It was like boiling water, the billowing steam forcing the kettle lid open, clamoring and whimpering uncontrollably!

The two of them embraced for a long time before finally separating, gasping for breath.

Si Shuo nestled in his arms, gazing in the direction Ji Liang had left. She poked at the plump whip that had coiled around her arm on its own, its body now shrunken.

A pure stream of Wood Spirit Power flowed from her fingertips, and the plump whip rubbed against her happily.

Xu Chi was also nurturing his own plump whip. After just one day, the whip had lost the fat, clumsy appearance it had when Si Shuo first created it. It was now half as thick and moved with much more flexibility and variation.

It even peeked over at its new brother, and when the new whip peeked back, it held its head high and puffed out its "chest" like a big brother.

Si Shuo found this amusing and said to Xu Chi, "Let’s give them names. Otherwise, when we have more whips later, we won’t be able to tell them apart!"

Xu Chi nodded. "You name them."

Si Shuo cleared her throat. "Since I created them, they can share my surname. We’ll name them in order: Si Da, Si Er, and Si San."

Xu Chi smiled and agreed. "Si Shuo, there are actually many aggressive plants in the forest. You could try cultivating and nurturing more varieties in your spare time.

That way, you can train your superpower and increase your reserves, and you’ll have an extra way to protect yourself in a crisis."

Si Shuo’s eyes lit up, and she tapped her head. "Oh, right! I’ve been so narrow-minded, focusing only on thorn vines!"

’She has a plant encyclopedia, after all! She can look through it to see which plants are edible, which can be used for medicine, and which can be used for defense and attack.’

’When they weren’t in a hurry to travel, she could find these plants one by one.’

The two of them talked for a while longer before Ji Liang and the other Beastman returned from the forest.

Si Shuo ran forward, took Ji Liang’s hand, and led him back inside the Protective Shield, carefully checking him for injuries.

"It’s nothing, just a small cut. It’s fine," Ji Liang said with a laugh, grabbing her fidgeting hands. He leaned close to her ear and hissed, "Little Shushu, stop touching me... I can’t take it..."

Si Shuo pursed her lips and glared at him irritably. He really didn’t have any serious wounds, but she still used her Healing Ability on him from head to toe.

The sensation, like a warm breeze causing a slight itch, made Ji Liang press his head into the crook of Si Shuo’s neck, unable to stop a comfortable hum.

Si Shuo blushed. ’Everyone says Snake Beastmen are cold-blooded, cruel Rogue Beasts, completely unsuitable to be Beast Husbands. But of her three Beast Husbands, he was the one who loved to tease, yet he always knew just how far to push it—never to the point of annoyance, and often making it a little enjoyable.’

The excessive consumption of Spiritual Power left Si Shuo exhausted, and she fell fast asleep curled up in Ji Liang’s arms.

Ji Liang glanced at Si San, which was coiled around Si Shuo’s arm, and let out a cool hiss.

Si San seemed to sense the danger. It shrank again and again, finally shrinking pitifully to the thickness of Si Shuo’s little finger and obediently coiling around her wrist.

Ji Liang pinched Si Shuo’s wrist and violently infused his Spiritual Power into Si San’s body.

Si San was a whip woven from many thorn vines, and two of them were forced to absorb his Ice Spiritual Power.

Ji Liang had just come from a fierce battle and still had half of his Spiritual Power left. Even so, Si San only managed to swallow a tenth of that remaining half before he hissed, "So weak!"

He withdrew his hand, popped a Crystal Stone into his mouth, and leaned against a tree to rest with his eyes closed.

Xu Chi lowered his gaze slightly, also taking Si Shuo’s wrist and infusing Wind Spiritual Power into two of Si San’s other thorn vines...

For the past two days, Si Shuo would wake up in Xu Chi’s arms, wash up, eat, and then continue the journey held by Ji Liang.

Chu Man hadn’t come looking for trouble again, but her gaze frequently darted in their direction. Clearly, she hadn’t given up.

With three days left until they reached Nanye City, they finally emerged from the sprawling scrubland and entered a boundless prairie dotted with wildflowers of every color.

The flowers and grass reached Si Shuo’s waist. A breeze blew, sending green waves rolling across the land. The prairie connected to a clear blue sky, where even the clouds looked like cotton candy, making one’s heart feel cleansed!

Herds of sheep, cattle, and galloping horses occasionally appeared on the prairie, each many times larger than those from Si Shuo’s world.

At night, the group arrived at a riverbank where the grass had already been cleared by a previous group of Beastmen.

"On our way here, we saw a large flock of Curled Horned Sheep. Does anyone want to team up and hunt a few to roast?"

To make good time, the Beastmen were only eating two meals a day, morning and evening, and both consisted of pre-prepared dried meat and fruit.

After running all day and seeing so many Wild Beasts, they couldn’t hold back their craving for a proper meal of roasted meat.

One Beastman shouted the suggestion, and many others responded, getting to their feet.

Ji Liang smiled and ruffled Si Shuo’s hair. "I’m going to hunt two or three Curled Horned Sheep, too. I’ll bring some sheep’s milk back for you while I’m at it."

Si Shuo only had one bucket of boiled sheep’s milk left in her space. She was in the habit of drinking a bamboo tube of it every night, and sometimes she’d have one during the day when she felt peckish and didn’t want water.

She had finished the sheep’s milk the day before yesterday, and she was also craving lamb skewers. So, while she was smiling and nodding, she was also secretly exchanging points in her system’s mall for cumin powder and getting oil, salt, and other seasonings ready.

Ji Liang exchanged a look with Xu Chi, then transformed into his Beast Form along with the others and sprinted back in the direction they had come from.

Quite a few Beastmen stayed behind. They gathered around their campfires to boil water and took out dried meat and fruit to tide them over.

Xu Chi’s gaze shifted toward Chu Man. He noticed two of her males slip away silently, and his expression grew cold.

"What’s wrong, Xu Chi?" Si Shuo was currently feeding Spiritual Power to Si San.

’This little guy was a voracious eater. No matter how much she fed it, it was never too much. She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt like it was changing a lot every day.’

Xu Chi shook his head and took some snacks out of his Sumeru Space for Si Shuo to nibble on.

Si Shuo nibbled on a piece of corn, her gaze wandering casually outside the Protective Shield.

People outside the Protective Shield couldn’t see in clearly, but the vision of those inside was unobstructed.

She suddenly tugged on Xu Chi’s sleeve and whispered, "Xu Chi, I remember four of Chu Man’s Beast Husbands went hunting just now. She should still have eight with her.

But now two are missing. I’ve finished this whole piece of corn, and those two still haven’t come back!"

Even though this is a prairie, it’s no less dangerous than the forest, especially at night. It’s very unusual for Beastmen to leave the group alone.
