The sudden surge of notifications blinded him. More utility resources, more utility rooms, more authority to abuse. There were a lot of things to check, but Aiden’s eyes were fixed on one skill only.

[Upgrade management skill to level 4?]

"Yes."

[Upgrade successful!]

[Pseudo system extension unlocked!]

This is what Aiden had been waiting for. A management skill effect that would allow every resident to have a ’pseudo’ system of their own.

Unlike Aiden’s system, which he could talk with like he was talking to another person, their system would be utterly basic with only a few commands.

[View Stats], [Storage], and [Shop].

Everything in it was designed by Aiden. [View Stats] would display a person’s stats to them and everyone around them, and was like Aiden’s status page. The [Storage] system was inspired by a certain game with evil residents.

Finally, the [Shop] had three sections, each with three slots. For weapons, he gave the choice of buying a makeshift spear, a kukri, or a riot shield.

Then came survival, where they could buy food packs, water, and tier-1 medkits. Finally, there were three miscellaneous items that refreshed every day. It could be a trash item, like a broken flashlight, or an Evo-Gear like the combat gauntlet.

Naturally, every item had a corresponding price. The tenants could use coins to buy items at a similar rate to that they had in the survivor camp.

Either that, or they could use contribution points. What were those? Just the points they got from contributing to the building.

They could either contribute by helping with tasks like cleaning, maintenance, or they could go out and hunt monsters for higher contribution points.

If they brought fairly intact monster corpses back, they could exchange them for even more contribution points. Obviously, the higher the risk they took, the better rewards they’d get.

"Did you forget to add leveling up functions?"

[Not at all, Host. Every five levels, the storage and shop would expand to add more slots and better items. However, there’s only one way of improving their stats.]

"Yeah, I know."

A pseudo-system was a fake system, after all. It couldn’t improve someone’s physical attributes just by clicking ’+’. They would have to work and improve themselves.

Even the mighty demon lord Aurdeus couldn’t defeat the might of exercising.

[Once they hit level ten, their proficiencies and work experience would be taken into account, and they would gain a ’job’.]

"Right, I almost forgot to add that."

[Hehe... Sorry.]

However, these so-called jobs wouldn’t be like an Evolver’s class. That wasn’t something Aiden could assign without paying a nice sum.

Yeah, assigning classes required him to spend funds, unlike a job, which could be assigned thanks to the level-three [Management] skill upgrade he got before.

The tenants would only gain jobs like security, maids, cleaners, etc. Only the few selected by Aiden for showing promise would get actual classes upon hitting level 10.

That’s why he assigned those twenty-four people a separate floor with better amenities compared to other tenants who got their units from auto-assigning.

Next, he dumped the skill points to upgrade all skills to level five. However, there were no additional effects. The [Shop] just gave him more slots to register items and upgraded the tiers of the current items in it.

Another [Management] upgrade gave him a bit more control over a tenant’s actions and even gave them stricter punishments for failing quests. Even execution was on the table, which was previously limited to eviction.

[Maintenance] unlocked more facilities to construct, like a sauna. Upgrading [Supervision] made the map function better. It now showed a wider area to him, along with marked sites where the monsters could be potentially hiding or creating lairs.

The stagnant upgrades made Aiden feel like he was reaching the threshold. After all, the same thing happened in the Otherworld, too. That’s the reason Aiden got bored and wanted to leave.

"At least I have people here to have fun with," he shrugged, walking over to the workshop. "That guy better have made some progress or—"

No sooner had Aiden said that than the workshop doors were thrown open, and James rushed out, covered in grease and grime.

"Boss! It’s done!" James panted, proudly pointing towards a vending machine where Lily was standing.

The soda labels and the exterior protectors have been ripped apart. Only the main working structure remained there. However, when Aiden got closer, he was genuinely surprised.

He had expected James to add options to get water or a food pack from the vending machine in exchange for caps. Instead, menus of gourmet meals were shown on it.

"Prepared food from a vending machine?" Aiden mumbled, kind of apprehensive about whether it would work or not.

"Boss, just try it once," James urged, handing Aiden a cap.

Aiden inserted the coin, selecting a mac-n-cheese bowl. The machine whirred to life, and Lily began clapping as it did. Roughly ten seconds later, a hot plate of mac-n-cheese shot out of the machine along with disposable cutlery.

"How the—?"

Yes. The demon lord didn’t find the existence of vampires and werewolves unrealistic, but a bowl of hot food was where he drew the line.

He bought a cap from the shop and this time chose cold orange juice. It too shot out of the same slot, alongside a cup of ice cubes.

"How did you do it?" Aiden asked, smiling at the surprise.

"Uh... It’s not me, Boss," James replied, scratching his cheek. "I fixed the machine and went to get some water. When I got back, Lily was hammering the machine, then this happened!"

As soon as Aiden heard that, he lifted Lily into her arms, swinging her around gently.

"Aren’t you full of surprises, little one?" he said, rubbing his nose to hers. "Could you tell me how you did it?"

"Hammer!" she replied, throwing her hands up and the next moment a hammer actually landed in her hands.

Wait, is it what I think it is?
