Chapter 56: Class Upgrade, Building Supervisor!

"You will stay with me," Aiden said while resting his head on Milarel’s plump thighs. "As for your girls, have them clean up a floor and take it."

"Thank you, my lord. Your kindness knows no bounds."

Milarel knew how Aiden felt about cleanliness. Normally, he would have sent them back to the survivor camp.

He was only making the concession for her sake. Since the girls had accompanied her, Milarel couldn’t abandon them now that she had fulfilled her goal.

As for her, despite owning a brothel, she never engaged in any acts herself. Did Aiden ask her about it? Nope. He didn’t have to.

Much like a werewolf, a kitsune would also remain bound to a mate for life. It was the ultimate sign of their loyalty towards their partner.

After all, if a kitsune cheated, even emotionally, they would lose all their powers and face immense backlash for it. Essentially, they will get crippled.

Since Milarel could still transform, there was no need to question her purity. She still offered it to Aiden, but he declined, mostly because he had had his fun for the day.

[Devotee: Milarel Alucard’s devotion cannot be increased further.]

Aiden smiled at that notification. He didn’t think the loyalty of his people from the Otherworld could be measured in the first place. Yet, it was nice to have it confirmed.

"Well, that’s enough relaxing for now," he said, getting up. Milarel got up as well, turning back to her human form.

The only difference was that she wasn’t wearing the fur coat from before, but a maid’s costume. A proper one, not some lingerie.

"And I thought you said you didn’t have one?"

"My apologies for teasing you, my lord."

Aiden chuckled and shook his head as they walked out. As they walked to his apartment, he asked Milarel something that had been bothering him.

Why did she charm Karina to control her?

"You’re attracted to strength, my lord," she replied. "This world was too big for me to travel alone and find you. Instead, I found Karina and helped her get stronger, knowing you would find her someday, if you ever returned, and I was correct."

"Your blind faith scares me sometimes."

Milarel smiled as they entered his unit. Unlike others who were often awestruck after entering his apartment, Milarel didn’t react. For her, Aiden was the only one worthy of her awe.

The two walked to the balcony and saw the slum dwellers standing below in neat rows. They had had all the food and drinks they wanted, and now it was time to judge their usefulness.

Aiden took four dweller tokens and used them at once. He had a feeling the tokens served a higher purpose than just finding random people to become his tenants.

After all, the token helped him find Amaela and Lily. Both of them had mastered proficiency in something. In Lily’s case, it was creation, and in Amaela’s, it was farming.

Among the hundred people, there must be a few talented individuals.

He used the token, and four individuals were quickly highlighted. Aiden quickly sent Marcus a voice note, telling him to separate them.

He repeated the process twice more, separating twelve people. It was a good haul, yet he seemed a bit miffed.

"How come the first token highlighted two people, but this time it was one token per person?"

[...the first time was a glitch.]

"You really want to be killed, don’t you?"

[Processing compensation to satiate the user.]

[12x Dweller Search Token has been compensated.]

"That’s more like it."

Just like that, twenty-four ’talented’ individuals were selected from the bunch. There might have been more, but they were unlucky not to get selected and would have to shine on their own.

"Alright then," Aiden said, flexing his fingers. "It’s time for the next phase of the plan. System, do not disappoint me."

[Of course, host. Rest assured, everything is in place.]

The rest of the day passed quickly.

As per Aiden’s request, the building entrance was decluttered and opened. The slum dwellers walked inside and were in awe.

All the buildings around them had turned dilapidated, but despite there being no maintenance for the lower floors, it was in a decent condition. Decent enough that the future residents didn’t even bother cleaning the space.

It wasn’t surprising, given the condition they had lived in for the last year. However, Aiden was not having that.

He quickly gave them a mass tenancy contract. If the contracts of the other tenants could be considered slave contracts, the ones given to the slum dwellers were exactly that.

No free will. No responsibility from the landlord towards them. They could live and die, and Aiden wouldn’t care. However, he did mention they would get paid for labor and other tasks.

Apparently, that was enough for these people.

They were so starved for control that they thought as long as they got paid well, they didn’t need anything else.

The saying is true. In the face of comfort, freedom doesn’t matter.

Aiden chuckled, watching the new tenants hurriedly clean the gross apartments. Meanwhile, the brothel girls were cleaning the tenth floor under Milarel’s supervision. They planned to turn that floor into an entertainment district of sorts.

The fourteenth floor was assigned to the twenty-four people Aiden selected. Two people per unit. For the people who had been cramped in tents, it was a luxury, and their loyalty towards Aiden immediately spiked.

Finally, Aiden received the notification he had been waiting for.

[117 tenants have been registered!]

[Current Tenants: 124/50]

[Expansion Mission (II) completed!]

[Energy credits x500,000 were added to the inventory.]

[Funds have been rounded off to $50,000,000]

[Skill points x10 have been awarded.]

[Class has been upgraded to: Building Supervisor!]

[Please wait while expansion is in progress...]

Unlike last time, not one floor but the entire building shook. Having experienced it before, Aiden remained calm, but the same couldn’t be said for the new residents.

They immediately hurried outside, thinking it was an earthquake. Some even ran back inside to save their benevolent landlord, but when they did, they realized the floors they had been scrubbing to clean had turned new within seconds.

The entire building was as good as new!
