Chapter 983: The Guide

Clovis and the others had finally regrouped in Easton. It was a shame that they couldn’t smuggle their actual bus into Easton, but being able to gather everyone here was more than enough.

"This is Mr. Canes. He will be in charge of you in this matter." Vina introduced them to a middle-aged man.

His appearance was rather messy. He had long curly hair and a hairy beard. His clothes were a bit tattered, with some ripped parts.

"Well, hello." Canes raised his hand before taking out a cigarette and lighting it. "So, you guys are the ones."

Vina added, "Mr. Canes. Please control yourself if you don’t want to have a messy life ahead."

"My life is already messy, so it doesn’t matter to me." Canes shrugged. "All I care about is that you follow my rules."

"Okay, then." Clovis nodded casually. "Please tell us your rules."

"Ahhh. Now, this I like." Canes pointed at Clovis. "Well, I only have three rules. First, don’t ask things, just do it. Second, payment. Third, I don’t care who you are, but I am going to tell you this. If we are exposed, I will tell them I’m coerced by you guys."

"We’ve got a deal." Clovis agreed without hesitation.

"All right. Hahaha." Canes laughed. "I will deliver you to that tower."

Vina asked, "Please explain anything you know about this tower first."

"Are you still here?" Canes rolled his eyes, looking at Vina.

"I will leave after this. And the second payment will be made after I hear this information. The last payment will be delivered once you send them in." Vina didn’t care about his annoyance. She was here to ensure that the Libation Fiesta could enter the tower.

Canes stared at her for a bit before raising both hands. "You got me. Okay? You got me."

Canes waved his hand up. "Follow me."

There was a small house not far from their current location. It was a small house in a narrow alley, so not many people would find it.

In addition, Clovis and the others had worn their wigs and new clothes as part of their cover, so it was unlikely for them to figure out who they were, not when Vina and Silvia were the ones planning it out.

The moment they entered, they realized this place was actually a hidden base rather than a house.

Inside the place was quite cozy. Wooden floors, a small but insulated place, and even the small chandelier in the middle of the room giving a warm orange ambiance.

Canes said, "Just sit down wherever you want. The floor is not dirty, so you can even sit down there."

Canes returned a minute later while dragging a whiteboard.

"Okay. I’m going to explain to you once, so make sure you listen to me."

Canes started to draw a few symbols and placed a few photos.

"This is the Tower of Darkness. Normally, a tower can be lit up by bringing some lights inside. However, in this tower, the light doesn’t work for no reason.

"This is a phenomenon that is beyond the scope of science. We don’t know either. Even when you are using your phone’s flashlight, it is as if the light itself vanishes straight away, devoured by the darkness.

"No one knows about this tower, and they’re having a hard time understanding it. After all, you simply can’t see anything inside it.

"There are plenty of scientists who have gotten the clearance to study this tower, but none of the research has proven to be useful yet."

Clovis squinted his eyes. "If it’s complete darkness, how are we meant to travel in this tower?"

Canes raised two fingers. "According to some people, they are using ropes to attach people who want to enter the tower. However, there are plenty of beasts inside the tower as you go down, so most of the time, they will have to fight within that darkness without being able to see anything, and most of the time, the ropes return with nothing but blood."

Jay and the others were rather surprised. Could they really enter this tower?

"So, the people with Brain affinity are more suitable to venture into this place?" Clovis contemplated. This was the only way to explore the tower.

"Yes." Canes nodded. "When the government explored this tower, they sent a group of Tier 8 humans with Brain Affinity. They managed to go down the tower and reach the underworld.

"However, they couldn’t find anything other than that. Basically, they could sense the enemies but they couldn’t figure out anything about the tower."

Clovis thought they would have to rely on Melody. Melody’s senses were extremely sharp, and she was good enough to project that information into their Skyglasses.

Melody could allow them to see something in the dark. But if they just went down by killing beasts, they would gain nothing like the government’s expedition.

They came here to figure out anything about this tower, which might have a clue about this world.

The only problem was how to find that clue.

Clovis couldn’t figure anything out yet. There might be a way for them to light up the tower, but that method hasn’t been found yet.

Melody, on the other hand, asked a question. "What is the average strength of the beasts residing in that tower?"

"Average? Tier 3 or Tier 4. However, there are plenty of Tier 5 or even Tier 6 beasts. As for Tier 7 or Tier 8 beasts, nothing has been confirmed yet, but these kinds of beasts will be similar in other towers. They might enter the tower, they might not. So, I can’t say."

Melody nodded with a serious expression. This information would be enough to figure out what she should do in the group.

"Any other questions? If not, I will continue on how to proceed into the tower."

Seeing there was no one raising their hands, Canes continued, "All right. Now, the tower is surrounded by soldiers. It will be very hard to enter this tower. Very hard, not impossible. And now, I will tell you how to enter the tower like I have done a couple of times in the past."
