After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 109 - 21 Human-faced Serpent
Inn.
"For the two... no, three guests." the dwarf girl cradled the tea tray in her arms and looked at the two sitting in front of the low table hesitantly,
"If you need anything, just call me." Having said that, she left, looking back three times with each step until she reluctantly closed the door.
For the humans, and the odd-footed horse, her curiosity was piqued, but with her father having left home to go to Parad City and not returned, she had to be extra careful running the inn and couldn’t afford any mistakes.
Xi Mu withdrew his gaze and looked at the blind nun sitting across from him, who had put down her teacup, waiting for her to start the opening scene. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The little mare beside them didn’t seem to mind the serious atmosphere; instead, she pondered how to drink the tea before her.
Holding it with hooves seemed indecorous.
As for becoming human, that could lead to quite a remarkable story, not just potentially facing the matter of lifespan, but also having one’s stomach enlarged by a human.
A bit vexing.
"Lord Ash, what is your most original impression of Ragnarok?" the blind nun said in a slow voice.
"Is it an endless and possibly never-coming end, or is it the conclusion that corresponds with the beginning?"
The prophecy of Ragnarok, for any average citizen, was just a story without any sense of reality, an abstract concept.
In a distant and endless future lies the end of everything: the All Gods above the high heavens, the God of Omniscience, and all divine beings in this world, including the world itself, all facing an inevitable end.
Every change that has happened now is the driving force behind the coming of Ragnarok.
"What does it matter?" Xi Mu looked down at the teacup on the low table, replying indifferently, "Even if Ragnarok truly exists, marks the end of everything and the final point of all destinies, what is that to me, a mere human."
He voiced what most people were thinking.
"That’s something for the gods to worry about."
"But what if Ragnarok doesn’t actually exist?" the blind nun suddenly countered, leaving Xi Mu, who had maintained an indifferent attitude, with an astonished expression.
The little mare beside him, who had been contemplating how to drink tea, also cast a glance her way.
Likewise, as apples fall and rivers flow downhill, the existence of Ragnarok is taken for granted, and no one considers it to be unnaturally conceived.
Yet, this blind nun was asserting that Ragnarok doesn’t naturally exist.
"The moment the God of Omniscience was born, the fate of this world was sealed, including the conclusion of Ragnarok." the blind nun gently touched her eyes while speaking in her ever gentle voice, though the atmosphere had obviously shifted.
"Lord Ash, it is not Ragnarok that heralds the end of this world but the God of Omniscience. You are the one who corrects all errors, the Savior of this world."
"A Savior that destroys the world—can that even be called a Savior?" Xi Mu laughed dismissively, but he knew the blind nun wasn’t lying; the game had indeed been set so that the birth of the God of Omniscience sealed the coming of Ragnarok.
No effort could prevent this inexorable conclusion.
"Indeed." The blind nun answered affirmatively, from her perspective, the King of Ash was the Savior, not the unforgivable being people saw.
However, she knew that Lord Ash wouldn’t accept her claim unless he could witness the world from her eyes.
Otherwise, he’d just consider her a lunatic.
"Boring." Xi Mu commented and then turned to look out the window, "having witnessed something too grand and accepted it as the truth."
He stated his disinterest.
"You’ve been deluded by Ragnarok."
"Perhaps that’s the case." the blind nun nodded lightly, unexpectedly not denying it. She had seen Ragnarok and understood the secrets others couldn’t grasp, which made her perspective of the world stray from the normal life’s viewpoint.
So to say she was deluded by Ragnarok was also true.
"In that case, we have nothing further to discuss." Xi Mu picked up the teacup from the table and respectfully toasted the blind nun.
"Let’s part here."
Blind Nun: "..."
After so much build-up, her dismissal was all he aimed for; true to Lord Ash’s form, no hint of doubt touched him concerning everything she said.
"Lord Ash, you will understand your fate one day." She stood up and curtseyed to Xi Mu respectfully.
"And I will always be at your service." She turned and walked towards the exit of the room; suddenly, she heard Lord Ash ask,
"If I become the King of Ash, I’d have to kill you too, wouldn’t I?"
"—Lord Ash, I won’t trouble you." The blind nun said softly, and then left the room.
"What a strange woman."
Xi Mu remarked and turned to the little mare beside him, still fussing over how to drink her tea, took the teacup, and held it to the mare’s lips.
He then made a ’shush’ gesture with his finger and pointed outside the window.
The little mare immediately understood; the Knight intended to make a quiet escape with her while the woman was resting.
She nodded.
And then Xi Mu casually chatted with her about trivial matters and even explored the blind nun’s ring with her.
Unexpectedly high-end, it was as if a corner of the world had been torn off to create a beautiful oil painting, which was then rolled up into a ring.
