After Rebirth, I Took Revenge On My Scumbag Ex-Alpha Mate!-Chapter 28: The Event
KALIA
"What are you—" The rest of my words are caught in my throat when Darren walked briskly towards me.
He stopped just a few feet away from me, his hands dipped down into his pockets while his gaze was fixed on the sales person who was somehow in awe of the man standing in front of her.
I wasn’t surprised that he was getting these types of looks. Darren was a very handsome and good-looking man.
His presence is always felt in the room and there is always a kind of magnetic aura that comes with it.
He could turn heads just by stepping into a crowded room but too bad he’s gay and is not interested in the female specie.
But still, whoever he decides to end up with in the future, whether man or woman will be one hell of a lucky person.
"Can we see your other options please?" He requested and the girl set out to work almost immediately after recovering her footing and snatching her lustful gaze away from him.
"How have you been?" He asked as he bridged the little gap between us. "Did you sleep well?"
I nodded my head firmly. "I did. I woke up to an empty room so I assumed that you left for work or for an important business. Moira said the same thing too."
He pinched the bridge of his nose and nodded his head vehemently. I could see through his expression that there was something that he wasn’t telling me.
It was quite obvious that he was hiding something from me.
I could tell because his reaction was exactly the same as Moira earlier this morning when I had asked about his whereabouts but I had promised myself that I wouldn’t pry.
This isn’t a real relationship and whatever he was up to was none of my concern.
"I did have an urgent business to attend to and I couldn’t tell you earlier because it happened so suddenly and—" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"You don’t have to explain yourself to me Darren." I cut him off. "it’s your life and you’re free to do whatever you want as you please."
"I’m not complaining and besides, it was already stated in the contract that our personal business has nothing to do with each other’s lives so I really don’t have to know."
"I want you to know Kalia." He said to me, his eyes glazing over mine as if he wanted me to feel the impact of whatever he was saying.
"Like it or not, you’re married to me now and if something happens to me, you’ll likely be the first person that people would reach out to.
I know that it’s a contract marriage but until it’s anulled and void, you have that right."
I snatched my eyes away from his compelling ones with a single nod. I don’t know why he had to be so deep about it.
He could’ve just told me what he wanted to say without making it sound so deep and enthralling at the same time.
"What is the um...the event all about?" I cleared my throat. "Rain didn’t give me any specific details. He only told me that you requested I get ready for an event that we would both be attending together."
"I don’t know what it is and I’ve never been to any one of these functions before. Especially not with an Alpha prince." I voiced out nervously, unable to meet his gaze.
"I’m trying to score a business deal with an important client." He started.
"Actually, Callum and I have been going neck to neck to sign an important contract with them and tonight, they’ll be hosting a special event. I’m supposed to come with a plus one and that’s why you’re here."
"Couldn’t you have chosen someone else to go with you?" I suggested with a timid expression.
"I mean, if it’s an important function then Callum will be there with my stepsister Celyn and I don’t want to mess it up for you. This is not where I shine at all. Celyn is the one who attends these types of functions. I don’t."
"You need to start thinking like a winner Kalia." He advised me.
"You’re never going to win if you keep thinking like a loser. So what if you’ve not attended any of these functions before? You’re going now and that’s it."
"But—"
"It’s stated in the contract. No questions asked remember?" He reminded me and I nodded my head after a while in agreement."
"If you want to put Callum in his place and beat them at their own game, then this is your chance to. You’re going to show him that you’re different and that you’re not the same Kalia he used to know. The same woman that he cheated on."
"Callum hates loosing so you’re going to make him loose on all fronts. And to do that, we start by building on this relationship to make him jealous.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be here to help you through it all." He was quick to add.
"We’re ready for you ma’am." The sales person alerted me and Darren gestured that I follow her with a nod.
I tried out different outfits until I settled for the perfect one for the event. Darren paid in full and we both made our way back home.
The function was scheduled for the evening and all through the day, I couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Although, Darren had told me that I would be able to pull it off, I still didn’t believe his word.
Time went by quickly than anticipated. I guess that’s what happens when you’re getting ready for something that you never anticipated.
After being told by Darren to get ready, I had my bath and sat down in front of the mirror to apply my makeup.
Darren had paid someone to handle my dressing and makeup for the night. It was supposed to be a function so I wondered why he was doing this much but I still didn’t complain.
He might have his reasons and seeing that it’s important to him, he doesn’t want to take any chances.
When they finished with making me up, they proceeded to wear me the gown that he had chosen for me at the store.
After wearing my clothes, they styled my hair and made me stand in front of the full length mirror. I stared at my reflection in awe. I couldn’t believe it.
I looked so different that for a second, I almost didn’t recognize myself. What would people think of me if they saw me wearing something like this now?
When I was married to Callum in my previous life, he never allowed me to dress up like this.
It called it ugly and that it wouldn’t fit someone like me so I believed him because I thought that he knew best. How wrong I must’ve been.
The dress gave me a new look. It brought out all the curves that I didn’t know was hidden and exposed a little bit of cleavage.
There was a huge slit that ran up my thighs. It was a simple dinner dress but very elegant. I knew that this must’ve costed him a fortune.
The hair stylist went further to tie my hair into a messy bun, letting some tendrils fall to my face. Then they made me wear the heels and the jewelry that went with the full dress.
I prayed within my hearts of hearts that I don’t fall in these heels tonight cause I’ve never worn anything like this in my entire life. I was used to wearing flats.
I took one glance at the full length mirror for the last time before finally stepping out of the room, my heels gently tapping the floor as I walked.
I got into the living room and Darren who sensed my presence, turned around to see me.
