After Rebirth, I Took Revenge On My Scumbag Ex-Alpha Mate!-Chapter 27: Hurting Them Equals Happiness
KALIA
"My Lady?" I heard someone call my name followed by a consistent knock on the door.
I groaned lightly in my sleep and tossed to the other side of the bed but the knock only became louder and more persistent.
Who could be knocking so early in the morning? I spread my arms wide open on the bed like a splattered mashed potato before glancing at the door briefly in my tired state.
I rubbed my eyes and forced myself to sit up on the bed.
I was still jetlagged and tired from all the drama that happened yesterday so I had thought that I would rest it out a bit but I don’t think that was happening anytime soon.
With sleep induced eyes, I took in the empty bedroom that I had woken up in.
Where is Darren? Didn’t he sleep here? Did he sleep somewhere else? Did he leave for an important business perhaps?
Holding that thought and many other questions that flooded my head, I gently rolled out of bed and walked towards the door to open it.
To my greatest surprise, it was Moira and a few other maids that worked in the mansion.
I had noted a few faces that I recognized the very first night Darren brought me back home.
"Good morning, My Lady." Moira greeted with a curt bow of the head as well as the other maids. I stepped aside to let them enter.
"These are your ladies in waiting my dear." She informed me and went further to introduce them to me.
"Darren asked that they tend to you so, whenever you need their services, you can always call on them."
"Where is Darren?" I asked and she looked away in a way that seemed overly suspicious.
Almost like she didn’t expect me to ask that. It felt weird and quite strange because he was always in the bedroom whenever I woke up.
I was surprised to not have seen him today and the scared look on her face wasn’t really helping matters.
"Did I say something wrong?" I inquired when she still didn’t reply. "Did something happen to him perhaps?"
"He must’ve gone to work early. He’s quite a busy man and we sometimes don’t wake up to him in the house but I can assure you that he would be back as soon as he’s done." She said to me but surprisingly, I didn’t actually find her words convincing.
She looked like she was making stuff up and I didn’t know if I should believe her words or not.
"You don’t have to worry, My Lady. I can assure you that he is okay." She added with a small smile.
Well, it’s not like I have a choice though. She’s like his mother. She helped raised him and if she says that he’s alright then he is alright.
Plus, I have a lot of things on my plate to worry about him anyways. He is the Alpha’s son and he is powerful so he will definitely be able to take care of himself.
"If you say it’s fine then I believe you." I said and I noticed she relaxed visibly.
I was sure that there was something else underneath whatever she was trying to hide but I won’t push it.
"How are your wounds? Are they all better now?" She asked, reaching out to hold my hands and I let her.
"They’re healing at a slower rate but I’ll be okay you don’t have to worry." I answered her concerned questions about me.
"I’m a wolfless Omega so I won’t heal at the rate at which everyone heal but I promise that I’ll be okay."
"I’m really sorry for what your father did to you yesterday. It must’ve been hard growing up in that toxic place." She told me pitifully. "No one deserves to go through that, not even you."
"Thank you, Moira."
"Let’s get you cleaned up for today now shall we?" She signalled the other maids standing at a corner and they set to work almost immediately.
A few of them cleaned out the room while the other made a bath for me. After that, they helped cleaned me up picked out a nice dress for me.
Moira led me downstairs to have dinner when she was done and as we trotted down the stairs to the dining area, I came face to face with Rain who was seemingly waiting for me.
"Hello, My Lady." He greeted politely. I have no idea why they keep on addressing me by that name but I don’t have a choice than to get used to it.
We might be living amongst humans but we still took our status and ranks quite seriously over here.
"Rain? Have you been waiting out here for long?" I asked, closing him on him. Moira excused herself to set the table leaving just the two of us standing together.
"If you’re looking for Darren then—"
"I know." He cut me off. "He actually sent me to you." He informed me, taking out a little booklet from his pockets.
"He left for an important meeting this morning and he specifically asked me to get you ready for an event that you would be attending with him later on."
"He would’ve called to inform you sooner but he was swarmed with work and didn’t get the chance to." He went further to explain when he noticed how curious I looked at him.
"But I—"
"I guarantee that you will be safe with me My Lady, so shall we?" He gestured at the door so that I took the lead but I couldn’t leave without informing Moira so I did just that before following him out of the mansion.
He opened up the car door for me and after settling in, he took the wheels and we drove out of the mansion.
"So what’s your plan after you exert ypur revenge?" Rain asked me as he took a U-turn.
His gaze were focused on the road but I could still feel his eyes on me. "Anything specific you want to do after?"
I chuckled. "I haven’t really thought about that but I want to be free and do the things that I would want to do. I want to heal my broken heart and my inner child that has been hurt."
He looked at me briefly and focused his eyes back on the road.
"Healing is a long process and I’ve realized that I will never be able to move on knowing that I haven’t sorted out my past. That’s why this phase of my life is also important too."
"I’m sorry." Rain apologized pitifully. "It must’ve been tough, going through that all by yourself."
When he said that, my mind drifted off to my baby that was brutally taken away from me in my previous life and I instinctively wrapped my hands around my stomach as the images flooded my head.
I sighed with a smile. Maybe, my baby was never meant to be born in that lifetime. It was better that it died rather than being born to a father like Callum.
I regret a lot of things in my previous life right now but what I don’t regret was loosing my baby. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Yes it was." I answered, "It hurts a lot but I prefer it this way."
Because come to think of it, what would I have told my child back then? That their dad never liked me and had eyes only for my stepsister?
That he never wanted them and that they were a mistake? Most things happen for a reason and I want to believe that this was the reason.
"You are a strong woman, Kalia. By the goddess, I pray that you find happiness one day." He said to me.
"Even if it doesn’t happen with Darren, I pray that you find it with someone that is deserving of you so that you can smile when all this is finally over."
I didn’t say anything to add to what he had said. Instead, I shifted comfortably in my seat and threw my face outside the window of the moving car.
I don’t care about my happiness anymore. All I care about is hurting the people who wronged me. That was the only form of happiness that I needed.
We arrived at a clothing store and Rain led me inside after parking the car at the parking lot.
"We have an appointment booked under the name, Alexander Zade." Rain told the girl and after cross-checking with her list, she confirmed it and led us towards the clothing section.
I was asked to pick out whatever I liked but I had trouble doing so. I have never done shopping for clothes in this manner so it was quite overwhelming.
"Do you like this one ma’am?" The sales person held up a dress for me to see but instead of answering, I glanced at Rain to help me out.
He said that it was for an event that I was to attend with Darren so how does he expect me to know the kind of clothes suitable for such events?
I have never been to one of these events before, especially not with an Alpha.
Rain is his best friend. He should know about these things but he wasn’t even trying to help me out. He wasn’t even making an effort.
"I-I...I don’t really know..."
"Bring out all your best options and we’ll choose from there." Darren’s voice boomed from behind and I turned to see him walking towards me.
When did he get here? Why was he even here?
"What are you doing here?" I asked but he ignored my question.
"I’m sorry Sir, but who are you?" The sales person asked and he stared at me as if requesting for some sort of permission from me.
"I’m Darren Alexander Zade." He answered casually.
"I booked the appointment and the woman in front of you is my wife to be so go ahead and do as I have asked." He deadpanned and all I could do was stare.
