After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 115: Little Zombie Rat
Tyson Hughes noticed the woman had already spotted them.
He didn’t want to stop and delay their journey, but he still told the driver to head over.
Nina Jacobs had, in fact, already noticed the heavy armored vehicles in the distance.
At first, she thought they were rescue team vehicles.
But she quickly realized they weren’t.
There were six vehicles in total.
’We need to get out of here.’
When Nina Jacobs saw the vehicles heading their way, she immediately became vigilant.
Two of the vehicles pulled up and blocked Nina Jacobs’s car.
Dylan Quinn stepped out of his vehicle.
There were only two people in the other car, so he only had a few of his own men get out and follow him.
"What do you know about what happened at Quinn Manor?"
Dylan Quinn said as he approached, looking at the two people inside the car.
"..."
’Someone from Quinn Manor?’
Nina Jacobs quickly understood.
’This man must have seen Wayne Warner before.’
’I just don’t know what his connection to Quinn Manor is.’
’Could there have been survivors among those I killed?’
"Quinn Manor? What’s that?
You’ve got the wrong people."
Nina Jacobs said, her expression unchanging.
"You don’t know?
Then what about him?"
Dylan Quinn noticed that Wayne Warner, inside the car, wouldn’t even spare him a glance.
"I just picked him up off the road."
There wasn’t the slightest hint of guilt on Nina Jacobs’s face.
But Dylan Quinn just laughed.
"Fine. You want to make up stories?"
A sharp spike appeared in Dylan Quinn’s hand.
It was a Stone Spike; he was an Earth Element Superpower User.
Most current Earth Element Superpower Users could only form Earth Spikes, but this man before her could already create Stone Spikes.
His strength was not to be underestimated.
And the six Superpower Users behind him also revealed their Superpowers.
"Get out of the car."
the man said in a commanding tone.
"Well, that’s a little rude, isn’t it?"
Nina Jacobs said with a frown.
’We’d have to be idiots to get out of the car now, right?’
"Trying to leave? Let’s see how far you get!"
The moment Dylan Quinn made a move, a wall of fire taller than a person suddenly erupted in front of them.
The curtain of fire directly blocked their path.
But Nina Jacobs had already thrown the car into reverse, cranking the steering wheel and speeding off down another road.
"Looks like he’s met his match."
Tyson Hughes watched in amusement as the car sped away.
’That woman sure reacts fast.’
’And her Superpower is truly impressive.’
"You couldn’t even catch them?
You don’t think those two are actually the ones who killed Seth Quinn, do you?"
The woman hadn’t paid the man and woman any mind at first.
But she never expected them to escape from right under Dylan Quinn’s nose.
"Probably not. There are only two of them."
Tyson Hughes said, watching the furious-looking Dylan Quinn walk over.
"Seth Quinn is dead, Faye Quinn is gravely ill...
...no wonder Dylan Quinn is so upset. Tsk tsk, it’s just heartbreaking."
As soon as Dylan Quinn got in the car, the woman immediately clung to him.
"Mr. Hughes, I..."
"I know what you want to do,
and you can do it anytime, but not today."
Tyson Hughes’s reply silenced Dylan Quinn.
"Stick to the original plan. Let’s move out."
Tyson Hughes said.
...
Nina Jacobs kept checking behind them for pursuers.
But it seemed the man wasn’t giving chase.
She found this a bit surprising.
The man’s eyes had been clearly filled with anger and resentment.
Recalling Seth Quinn’s almost-perverted personality, Nina Jacobs figured this new guy must be just as difficult to deal with.
’I managed to shake them this time. I hope I don’t run into them again.’
"Did you recognize him?"
Nina Jacobs asked Wayne Warner, who was in the back of the car.
Wayne Warner shook his head but didn’t say anything.
"So he wasn’t someone from the manor?
It seems he only recognized you."
Nina Jacobs relaxed.
’As long as I don’t admit it, no one will know I was the one who burned down Quinn Manor.’
Feeling relieved, Nina Jacobs continued driving forward.
’Liam Grant and the others should have cleared out the first supply point by now.’
’Based on the pinhole locations on the map fragment, they should have three more places where supplies are stored.’
’As for the garage, they probably still don’t know that I’ve already cleaned it out completely.’
Her first destination for the day was an abandoned factory marked on the map fragment.
"Whoa, that’s a lot of zombies."
Nina Jacobs noticed that a long stretch leading to the destination on her map was colored red.
At first, she thought it indicated a blockage from obstacles on the road.
But when she stood on the roof of her car and looked through her binoculars, she realized it was an entire zombie congregation?!
’Someone must have lured those zombies there.’
"I guess I’ll have to try luring them away first."
Nina Jacobs took a drone from her storage compartment and attached a small, music-playing speaker to it.
「More than half an hour later.」
The road ahead finally began to clear up.
After Nina Jacobs sacrificed six or seven drones one after another, the stretch of road was finally cleared.
"What a waste."
She regretted not having stockpiled more drones.
There were always mutated zombies that would find a way to attack the drones.
But it wasn’t over yet.
The abandoned factory was also swarming with zombies.
The factory had three floors.
From a distance, she could see many zombies standing on the walkways of the second and third floors.
Nina Jacobs parked the car near the factory, then pulled Wayne Warner into a dilapidated house just outside the factory’s courtyard wall.
"We’re safe for now, at least."
This was her safe house.
Outside the rust-stained, mottled glass window, the zombies that had followed them were still milling about.
Having lost their target, the zombies slowly began to shuffle toward the sound of music in the distance.
The reason she hadn’t entered the abandoned factory yet was because Nina Jacobs wasn’t sure if there were actually any supplies inside.
She had just taken the Little Zombie Rat out of her storage compartment...
...when Wayne Warner raised his fist to smash it.
"Don’t smash it!"
Nina Jacobs yelped, startled.
Fortunately, Wayne Warner listened and spared the Little Zombie Rat.
"This isn’t a normal Zombie Rat. It’s already dead."
Nina Jacobs held it up by its bark-textured tail for Wayne Warner to see clearly.
The Little Zombie Rat’s entire body was now covered in a thin layer of bark.
It looked more like a common brown rat.
Except its eyes were hollow black voids, and two tender green leaves were sprouting from the wound on its back.
Wayne Warner stared at the motionless Little Zombie Rat in Nina Jacobs’s hand, and the wariness in his eyes slowly faded.
After placing the Little Zombie Rat on the ground and attaching a miniature video recorder to it,
Nina Jacobs began to channel her Wood Element Superpower to Control it.
After several days of practice with her Control,
the Little Zombie Rat had become quite agile.
It could even crawl along walls.
Nina Jacobs opened a crack in the door. The Little Zombie Rat cautiously poked its head out, slipped through the gap, and crawled along the courtyard wall and into the factory grounds...
"I just don’t know how far it can go."
Nina Jacobs could still sense the Little Zombie Rat’s position.
But with no signal, she would have to wait for the Little Zombie Rat to return before she could view what it had recorded.
Fortunately, the Little Zombie Rat was itself a type of zombie.
Even if it passed right by a zombie’s feet, it wouldn’t attract any attention.
To conserve her own strength, Nina Jacobs used a "Superpower Energy Stone" while controlling the Little Zombie Rat.
More than half an hour later, the Superpower Energy in one of the Source Stones was almost completely depleted.
And up on the wall outside the window, the Little Zombie Rat finally poked its head out.
Nina Jacobs opened the door to let it in and removed the miniature video recorder.
Freed from her Control, the Little Zombie Rat fell still.
"Come on back."
Nina Jacobs said with satisfaction as she returned it to her storage compartment.
’It seems this Wood Element Superpower really does have powerful control abilities.’
’With this Little Zombie Rat, I won’t have to worry about running out of drones anymore.’
’I’ll just have to grab a few more Zombie Rats when I get the chance...’
