After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 114: Simon Abbott Is Dead?
Something struck her as odd.
Liam Grant, Renee Strong, and the others had returned early that morning.
The only one missing was Simon Abbott.
She overheard Liam Grant gravely telling Mrs. Grant that Simon Abbott was dead.
’Simon Abbott is dead?’
Her first reaction was disbelief.
But hearing the sobs in Renee Strong’s voice, she knew they weren’t lying.
"What on earth happened?
I remember from my past life, there was supposed to be a hiding spot when we passed through there.
But this time, it was gone."
Renee Strong was still muttering to herself.
They had originally set out to retrieve their stashed supplies, but they ran into a massive horde of zombies along the way.
Following the memories of her past life, she had led them down a different road.
But the house that was supposed to be in the field had vanished.
She distinctly remembered hiding in there with Nina Jacobs in her past life!
And it was a location that was very difficult for zombies to find!
But this time, it just wasn’t there.
Later, when they were caught in a pincer attack by the zombies, Simon Abbott had drawn the horde away by himself, allowing the rest of them to escape...
’So that’s what happened.’
Listening to Renee Strong’s account, Nina Jacobs understood.
In her past life, while they were fleeing for their lives, the team had indeed been scattered by zombies once.
Only she and Renee Strong were left.
With zombies in front and behind, she’d had no choice but to deploy her safe house in the middle of a withered field.
She had then pulled Renee Strong inside with her.
Because of that, the two of them had successfully survived the ordeal.
That’s why in this life, Renee Strong had assumed there was a shelter there, but she’d been wrong.
"You must have misremembered,
That area has a lot of side roads, and it’s been a long time."
Liam Grant said, trying to console her, though his face was grim.
If Renee Strong hadn’t been so certain that road would lead them to safety, they wouldn’t have suffered such a devastating loss.
Wyatt Jacobs and the other two Space Superpower Users were fine, but losing Simon Abbott... that was too high a price to pay!
"It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault.
Liam, you can yell at me!"
Renee Strong’s eyes were swollen like walnuts.
She had been crying the entire way back.
With the two other Space Superpower Users on the team, she hadn’t explained everything.
But now, talking about Simon Abbott’s death, she still felt like her world was collapsing.
"Yeah, now it’s just the three of us left,"
Wyatt Jacobs said, staring blankly at the floor.
"Not just us. Ivan Lawson is still out there waiting for us to rendezvous.
And who knows, maybe Abbott is okay,"
Liam Grant said.
’Yeah...’
Nina Jacobs didn’t believe Simon Abbott would die so easily.
She was just a little disappointed.
She had originally planned to use Sherry Renner’s Talisman Paper to force some information out of Simon Abbott.
’But since Ivan Lawson isn’t in the shelter, where could he be now?’
When Nina Jacobs left the shelter with Wayne Warner, his expression seemed almost expectant.
"Here, this is for you. Eat up."
Nina Jacobs took out a bag of hot meat buns and handed it to Wayne Warner.
’Eating in front of everyone at the shelter really was a bit restrictive.’
And there were certain things Nina didn’t dare take out at all.
Wayne Warner took the buns and immediately began to wolf them down.
"Aren’t you curious how I have these?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
In the rearview mirror, Wayne Warner shook his head.
Back at the shelter, Nina Jacobs had asked Juliana Sinclair about Wayne Warner’s current condition.
Juliana’s explanation was that his intelligence had likely regressed to that of a child.
As much as she hated to accept it, Nina knew Juliana’s assessment was actually on the optimistic side.
"If you ever remember what happened before,
I wonder if you’ll blame me."
Nina Jacobs muttered to herself with a wry smile.
She truly regretted what had happened to Wayne Warner’s sister.
Especially after he had risked his life to protect her time and time again.
The only answer she received was the sound of Wayne Warner chewing loudly.
"Right, you can’t understand me right now anyway,
but don’t choke."
Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, Nina Jacobs took out a large bottle of fresh milk and tossed it to him.
Wayne Warner, who had been having a little trouble breathing, finally seemed to be doing better.
After running over some zombies, Nina Jacobs got out of the car to harvest Crystal Cores.
She noticed that people had gradually started appearing on the roadside, also harvesting Crystal Cores.
’They must be survivors from the shelter.’
There weren’t many of them, but they all looked extremely cautious.
The moment a zombie appeared, they would scramble back into their cars like startled animals and flee.
Fortunately, this area wasn’t too far from the shelter, so there were relatively few zombies.
However, after they drove a bit further and passed several man-made barricades, the number of zombies began to increase.
Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner got out of the car several times to kill zombies.
Just as they were about to reach the nearest destination on their list,
a Fireball slammed into the windshield of Nina’s car.
A Fire Element-mutated zombie stood on the roof of a nearby car, while other zombies on the ground swarmed toward their vehicle.
"Basic Level Middle Stage?"
Nina Jacobs could tell that this Fire Element zombie was quite strong.
It must have already reached the Basic Level Middle Stage.
The moment Nina got out, the Fire Element zombie let out a roar and charged.
Wayne Warner took care of the regular zombies, while Nina Jacobs’s Fire Whip was already lashing out at the Fire Element zombie!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Four Fireballs shot toward them in quick succession, and Nina materialized a Fire Shield.
Her Fire Shield was infused with Earth Element sand and gravel, so it was able to block all the powerful Fireballs completely.
A lash of her whip coiled around the Fire Element zombie’s right arm.
Nina yanked hard, intending to pull it close and run it through with a Fire Spike, but the Fire Element zombie actually tore off its own right arm!
"A bit stronger than the so-called ’number one fighter’,"
Nina remarked.
ROAR!
The Fire Element zombie continued its assault.
But with only one arm, it was even less of a match for Nina.
Once the Fire Whip coiled around its neck, a massive Fireball instantly surged along the whip toward the zombie’s head.
After a deafening BOOM,
the Fire Element-mutated zombie’s head was burned to an empty husk.
In the distance, a pair of eyes watched the duo with a probing gaze.
"Looking at another woman right in front of me again?"
A slender, delicate hand covered the man’s menacing eyes.
The man yanked her hand away, his grip so tight it made her cry out in pain.
"Drive over there,"
the man commanded.
"You hurt me," the woman complained.
"My apologies. I just saw someone unexpected."
The man released her hand.
"Who did you see?"
From the back seat, another person slowly opened his eyes.
He too looked out the window at the man and woman harvesting Crystal Cores.
The man was tall and powerfully built, staying protectively by the woman’s side.
It looked like he was taking his young girlfriend out to get some experience.
"Mr. Hughes, I’ve seen that man before,"
the man in the front seat said through gritted teeth.
"Oh, so you were looking at the man.
Never mind, then."
The woman beside him retracted her look of displeasure.
The girl was young and innocent-looking, but she also had a feisty, spirited air about her. The woman had genuinely worried that Dylan Quinn might take an interest in her.
"Where have you seen him?"
"He was a new security guard at Quinn Manor.
Faye found him outside and brought him back.
We were short-handed at the manor, so I made him a guard."
Dylan Quinn said, clenching his fists.
When he and Faye Quinn had returned to Quinn Manor, it had been nothing but a pile of ruins.
They had only found the charred corpse of his younger brother, Seth Quinn.
"So, you suspect he’s the one who did it?"
Tyson Hughes asked.
"Even if he wasn’t the one who did it, he definitely knows something,"
Dylan Quinn replied.
Besides, the female Superpower User next to that guard was clearly a Fire Element user.
