Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 213: To Learn Magic
As silence settled back over the cavern that the assembled adventures were, a collective sigh was released as everyone understood that the fighting was over.
With the dangerous deed done with their was a fresh burst of activity all around.
The wounded gathered up for the various healers to begin patching them up. The less wounded began to move around to the various corpses and begin to dismantle the corpses for parts. Luna found herself helping out a couple of adventures doing this task.
Whilst she had no experience doing so she found the act oddly satisfying, quickly getting stuck in and helping the adventures as they got their hands dirty.
Violet stood besides the drow woman as she slowly got back to her feet, exhaustion clear on her face as she surveyed the effects of her powerful spell.
Violet held back for as long as she could until she eventually blurted out. "That was amazing! How did you do that? I have a skill that uses runes but it only does a single thing, how did you learn to use them?" Her barrage of questions and praise caught the woman off guard as she looked at Violet quizzically.
"Not gonna introduce yourself first purple girl?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
Violet felt herself flush slightly but nodded regardless. "I’m Violet! What’s your name?"
"Violet hu, well nice to meet ya, you can call me Val."
"Okay Val, umm can you ou teach me how to use runes? I want to know more about them!" Violet asked, her hands clasped together before her.
Val looked at the woman before her, she had naturally noticed her during the short fight. She especially noted how she was the first one to notice the special ripples that announced the arrival of the strange 4 armed creatures.
Normally Val would not deign to teach her skills to just anyone, yet she found herself liking this oddly energetic girl. She was earnest in a way that she rarely encountered anymore, so, with some hesitation she responded.
"Well, I guess I could show you some things as we travel. It’s not exactly easy to do unless you have some experience with runes already, you mentioned you have a skill that uses them? What does it do?"
"It’s my most powerful atttack, a magic circle will slowly form with my mana, runes slowly form till it’s done, then a massive blast of mana shoots out and destroys most things that get in its way." Violet readily shared, she might not normally have shared such a thing so readily with just anyone, yet for some reason Violet felt that this woman, Val could be trusted.
She was unsure how she knew this, or more accurately how she assumed this. Yet her instincts had nothing but a mild warmth when directed at the drow. Unlike when she glanced at that Masin guy, then her instincts told her to be on guard.
Val smiled then, her face lighting up as excitement took over. "Oh now that is something that I would be very interested in seeing! I have no idea what kind of mana you use but it is quite impressive, don’t think iv seen such a devastatingly destructive mana type before now."
"What kind of skills do you have that utilise your mana directly?"
"Umm a few, iv got a couple of attacks, like my bolts, spears and a beam, as well as my runic spell, then I have a shield. Thats about it really, other than my manipulation skill." Violet honestly stated.
"Hmm okay and how about...."from there Val began to interrogate Violet on her magics, from how long she had had it to how she tends to use it, how she developed her skills and more. And so Violet explained, even when the expedition once more resumed their march down into the depths of the world.
Val was thorough in her questioning, yet never overstepped. She had outright asked what Violet’s speciality was, yet upon noticing her hesitation had backed off and gone with the assumption of an arcane speciality, which honestly wasn’t all too wrong given that Violet was likely the only void user alive.
Their talks lasted a long time, Violet entirely engrossed in her discussions on magic.she had always found magic fascinating yet had never truly delved into the theory’s behind it, always using it instinctively. So it was with great relish that she found Val, a woman that seemed to have the opposite approach to magic.
Val had gone down the route of study to expand her magical knowledge. Long hours learning the theory’s and nature of how magic operates in this world. That had naturally led her down to the route of runes.
Runes were in effect an ancient language that was routed in mana itself. No one knows where the language originated, some believe it was left behind by the gods, some that it is the language of the system.
Regardless of their origin, runes can be used in various ways, from enchanting items to drawing out magic circles for a variety of effects, from attacks to enhancements.
As they discussed this the rest of the expedition walked on, the people in Vals team looked on with amusement as their leader engaged in animated discussions with Violet, Luna, Susan and Rhyana mirroring their expressions as the two magical nerds talked.
Masin did not return to speak to them that day, noticing how engaged Violet was in conversation with the drow. Still he kept an eye on both her and Luna as they traveled.
When they decided to settle dow for the night Violet and Val were dragged apart from one another by their respective friends, they did promise to continue their discussion the next day however.
"Alrighty, we will be running shifts to watch over the camp, any volunteers for first shift?" Asked Odrin, once more taking charge of the expedition.
A few hands were raised and soon enough a simple shift was established, Violet and her friends having managed to get away with having no responsibilities that night.
The adventures began to take out their tents and other sleeping arrangements, Violet joining in and pulling out her magical hut, the girls soon entering into it after her.
Once inside the girls relaxed into the sofas that decorated the main room as they discussed the days events.
"You seemed to be getting on well with that woman." Luna noted, a hint of accusation in her tone that was not lost on the rest of the girls present.
Violet, slightly confused by that answered honestly. "Umm yeah, we talked about magic and she is teaching me how to use runes! It’s really interesting! Would you like to join in? I don’t think she would mind teaching you too?"
Luna relaxed slightly at that, sighing to herself for getting jealous over Violet getting along with someone else, she didn’t know why she felt slightly nervous about how close she got with Val but after feeling the genuine emotions through their bond was unable to maintain any negative thoughts.
"No, no it’s alright, I don’t think that is something that would suit me well. Runes wouldn’t really fit in with how I fight."
Violet hummed in acceptance at that, she then suddenly remembered something quite important and quickly brought it up.
"Oh wait, didn’t we have those pills that we won in the tournament? We should probabally have them now, would be silly to forget about them!"
Luna blinked, her eyes opening wide. She had in fact completely forgotten about them in the excitement that scoured right after they had won. She swiftly summoned them out of her storage space the glass bottle containing 6 multicoloured pills within.
Susan leaned forwards in interest. " ohh what do they do?"
Luna answered. "They give you a boost to your stats and apparently enhance your presence. You can only have a single one though, so I’m a bit unsure what we are going to do with the other two."
Susan and Rhyana both blinked in surprise. "The other two? But aren’t they for you and Violet?"
Both Violet and Luna blinked in surprise then, Violet speaking up for them. "No silly they are for all of us, you are our friends so naturally you will also have one each!"
Susan wanted to argue against it, understanding how rare such a pill was. Yet she had also gotten to know the two girls quite well since joining up with them and knew that it would be a pointless argument to have. So she simply accepted their generosity.
Luna gave each present one of the pills, Violet waiting no time as she threw it into her mouth and swallowed it whole.
She felt a sudden surge of power well up in her belly right after, her muscles tensing and her strength surging. The feeling was unlike anything she had experienced before, and she eagerly brought up her status to see what kind of a bonus that pill had provided, when she saw the results she was unable to hide her smile.
