Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 190: The Colosseum (8)
Masin sat in the grand colosseum of Cragkieth, he had not intended to attend but he had been dragged into it by his team. Upon arriving within the city that morning they had quickly discovered that their would be a tournament being held that day.
Against his better judgement he had been convinced by his team that they deserved a break and some time to relax. After all what better way to relax then by watching warriors display their skills.
Despite his misgivings he did find himself relaxing in the enthusiastic crowd. His team had arrived slightly late to the main even, only arriving part way through the series of free for alls.
He had watched the talented fights work their proverbial and quite literal magic in the arena. Seeing how each person engaged in battle was a thrilling experience, almost making him want to jump into the ring himself.
Thankfully he was able to hold back that impulse. Still he was enjoying himself here and was looking forward to see what would come next.
Then when the initial stage was over he got to see all of the victors walk out into the arena to decide upon their placement in the upcoming rounds. It was their that he saw something that truly caught his attention.
It was a woman, she was lithe and powerful, almost primal in movements. But it was her appearance that truly caught his attention, or to be more specific her race.
Massin was a snow leopard beastkin, his particular race was astonishing rare. Especially when not in the northern section of the Endless Forest.
In all of his life he had only met 5 other snow leopards, all of whom were members of his own family. So when he saw the distinctive white spotted ears and fluffy white tail of the woman his attention was instantly drawn to her.
Yet the more he observed the more interested he became. He was not able to truly observe her presence with so many people around them, yet she almost felt... purer than him? No that wasn’t the right word, it was is if she had somehow surpassed being a normal snow leopard beastkin.
He had no true reason for that belief, in fact it felt silly to even think about it, yet he was unable to shake that nagging feeling that had somehow settled deep in his gut as he watched her.
Masin idly wondered about her origins, ’did she originate from the north? Is she a long lost relative of mine?’ Such thought swirled in his head as the commander observed the girl below.
Due to paying close attention to her he naturally noted how she seemed to be close to one other participant. The two girls conversing and staying right besides each other throughout the small intermission to decide placements in the main event.
That woman was also striking, Massin was completely unable to place her race. She clearly had some reptile qualities, with her scaled tail, yet her wings and horns did not match any race he knew off.
He almost thought she might be one of the extremely rare Dragonborn’s, but quickly shook that thought off as he knew for a fact that they did not grow horns.
However, his mind suddenly snagged on a particular part, to be specifically the dragon part. She certainly did have draconic features, but his mind refused to believe that she could possibly be related to dragons given their near extinction.
Yet, he was currently in a mission to locate a dragon, the last wild dragon to be specific. But surely such a being wouldn’t just attend a random tournament in the colosseum... right? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
He shook his head at the absurdity of the idea. As he was musing that fact he idly noted that the participants had left the arena, leaving only two fighters remaining. It seems like the first round of the tournament was about to begin.
Masin watched the first two fights happen with mild interest, his mind still stuck on the two strange women he had seen before his mind struggling to understand their origins.
His focus was once more captured when he noticed the striking purple haired woman exit out onto the stage, she wore no armour for her battle, instead opting for a simple but elegant dress. Massin instantly marked her as a mage purely for that. Then out walked her opponent, who based off his own baggy robes was a mage too.
"Looks like this will be our first true mage battle of the tournament ladies and gentlemen! Give it up for Violet and Nikolais!" Came the voice of the announcer over the din of the crowd.
The two mages reached their positions, standing around 10 meters apart from each other. "Let the fight begin!" Upon that statement magic erupted in the sandy arena as both mages unleashed their spells and skills.
Masin watched as the dwarves mage conjured several orbs of fire around himself whilst a circle of flame sprung up around his feet. His attention split as he watched orbs of utter nothingness appear around the purple haired woman, Violet he reminded himself.
He was baffled by the woman’s magic, he had fought both alongside and against countless mages over his years, yet he had never seen a magic that even remotely looked similar to hers. It was as if her very magic was the anthesis of reality itself, the diffused purple glow the only true indicator of its existence.
Then the orbs of nothing shot forwards, the fire orbs opposite her launching a salvo of fire bolts. Each caster working to both hit the others spell resulting in a muted implosion as the purple bolts erased the fire when they hit. The dwarf seemed slightly surprised by that fact, yet he did not let his barrage slow down in the slightest. If anything he increased the amount of magic he flung forth.
Violet not to be outdone also increased the amount of bolts she fired, soon mixing in spears of her strange magic. When the first of the spears shot forth the dwarf tried to counter with a simple bolt yet was forced to scramble to put up a stronger defense when the spear punched right through the fire bolt with contemptuous ease.
The hasty defence consisted of the flames at his feet shooting up into the air and forming a solid wall of fire, saddly for him even that was not enough to fully stop the projectile. The spear ended up lodged in the flame wall for a single second before it exploded, the dwarves mage was sent stagger back from the force.
This prompted the dwarf to unleash even more magic, summoning more bolts and then larger balls of fire, soon even adding in concentrated beams of flames.
Yet, regardless of what the man threw at Violet her magic simply outclassed him. If he launched a large fire ball she shot through it with a spear, when he sent forth a beam she simply reported out of the way, her barrage never ceasing.
This then set the tone of the fight. The dwarf constantly trying new things, expending more and more mana as he desperately tried to land a single hit on the woman opposite him. Violet simply outclassing him at every turn. Soon enough it seemed like she had enough of the fight.
Violet disappeared from her spot, yet did not reappear instantly. The dwarf was stunned for a moment, looking around frantically for where she had gone. Then after 2 seconds of being gone she suddenly reappeared right besides the man, he spun around as he sensed her yet it was too late.
When she reappeared her fist was pulled back, her stance lowered and muscles pulled taught. In an instant her figure moved, exploding with latent power, a purple hue enveloped her fist as it shot forth and impacted with the side of the mages head.
His head was blasted backwards, it surely would have either been entirely separated from the body or simply blown to bits if the golden glow of the arena had not sprung to life to save his life. A moment later he vanished from the arena leaving a purple haired woman standing their with a smile on her lips and her tail slowly wagging behind her.
"What a monster." Steve, Masin’s scout muttered just loud enough for him to hear it. Masin could only nod his head in agreement as the crowd exploded in applause and cheers.
