Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 189: The Colosseum (7)
As the gong rang out the two figures rushed towards each other, they were both melee fighters so it did them no good to stay at range. Tyre naturally moved slower than his opponent due to his heavy armour, but he was by no means slow.
When almost in range Tyre’s figure suddenly blurred before it shot forward with impressive speed. Wanuxa however, seemed to have been expecting such a move and easily sidestepped the charge. He did not expect the concussive impact that resulted with Tyre’s hammer slammed down on the spot he just vacated.
Wanuxa was nearly knocked down from the impact yet he managed to turn his stumble into a roll to avoid the follow up shield bash from his dwarves foe. Tyre did not chase him this time, resetting his stance and raising his shield till only his eyes poked over the top, his hammer held at the ready by his side.
Regaining his footing Wanuxa began to circle Tyre, slowly moving counter clockwise to try and keep his shield on the opposite side as he was. Tyre simply rotated his body around, not moving forwards or back. With a cluck of his young the light warrior dashed forward his twin swords cutting through the air with deadly intent.
The obsidian shield quickly moved to block one whilst the head of the hammer moved swiftly forward to parry the other, with that movement the hammer was swung back around to strike at the catkin only for him to take a step back to avoid the blow before he moved back in to resume his attack.
The two exchanged dozens of blows like this, Wanuxa moving in and out rapidly, using his greater speed to dance around him imoble opponent. Tyre simply endured the ceaseless attacks, blocking most and pareying what he could.
This stalemate was eventually broken when the ground under Wanuxa’s foot suddenly sank down. His ballence was instantly thrown off and he stumbled forward, his eyes opening wide in surprise only to witness Tyre’s warhammer swinging down at him. He tried to avoid the blow, but only succeeded in causing the hammer to strike his shoulder instead of his head.
A resounding crack echoed out at the impact, the catkins right arm instantly going limp as his shoulder was pulverised in an instant, his sword clattering to the floor. Yet he did not scream out, his other hand moved up with practiced movements aiming to impale the dwarfs neck. Sadly Tyre’s shield moved swiftly in the way to deflect his strike.
The fight was effects over from that point, with one arm entirely useless Wanuxa was unable to maintain his ceaseless assult, allowing Tyre to begin advancing. His slow but powerful attacks causing his foe to constant be scrambling to avoid the devastating attacks.
It was not long before another subtle manipulation of the ground beneath the catkins feet caused the man to stumble once more. This time he was unable to move his head out of the way in time.
As the warhammer impacted the man’s head he was enveloped in a golden glow before be was teleported out. A moment of silence enraptured the crowd, before they burst with noise as they celebrated or commiserated Tyres victory.
The man himself took a moment to bask in the victory before grossing his warhammer into the air in a silent salute to the crowd.
The crowds reaction was to be expected at this point, it surged in volume as they celebrated the victory. The very ground rumbling with its intensity.
"I guess after really is quite popular here isn’t he." Susan murmured to herself.
"Oh he very much is! I mentioned it before but he is an old hand here, he has won a couple of quite big tournaments for up and coming talents." Isabella’s gaze then moved over to Violet.
"I would be careful if you manage to face him later on, you said he was being beaten by a large group of foes correct?" At the girls nod she continued. "Well that is his worst matchup, he excels when facing a singular opponent, he works on controlling the pace of the battle, don’t let him pull you into his pace or you will have a very hard time."
The seriousness in her gaze made Violet take her words seriously. "Don’t worry I will take every fight seriously, I always have and I always wil."
Isabella held her gaze for a moment longer before she nodded her accent. "Well how would you like to learn about your next opponent?"
Violets ears perked up at that, she was initially curious and briefly thought about finding out more about him before she paused her line of thought. She then spoke, choosing her words carefully.
"Hmm I don’t think I want to know. I’m sure that it will do me good to learn about how they fight so that I can adapt quickly to what they do... but, I feel I would loose out in the long run if I do so."
The elf tilted her head in clear confusion at that. "What do you mean? Would it not be smart to learn about your opponents before hand?"
"Oh it definitely would be yes, but I have lived my whole life in the wilds, I have very rarely been able to learn about my opponents before a fight broke out. Being able to quickly adapt to unknown situations as they occur is something that is needed to survive outside the city walls."
She took a moment to gather her thoughts before continuing. "I want to use this tournament to improve my ability to adapt, to grow stronger by facing strong and unknown foes... plus, it’s more fun this way!" She smiled wide at the end, her slightly pointed teeth showing.
Luna who was seated besides Violet nodded along at her words, having much the same thoughts herself. Very rarely had the two of them been able to learn about their foes ahead of a battle, the best example of learning about their foes was the orcs back when they first met. Even that was more the fact that they fought so many of them that they learnt how they fought over time.
Isabella on the other hand thought differently from the two. She had grown up behind the city walls, only venturing out on controlled hunts, having learnt all she could about her prey well ahead of time. For her to not know what an opponent could do was a reckless action that posed unnecessary risks.
However, she could see the determination in the girls eyes. And based of what strength they had already displayed, despite their young age and status as early stage Lords. The two of them had probabally won more dangerous fights that she had in dozens of years.
With a sardonic smile of helplessness she let out a sigh. "Well if you say so, I personally think it’s slightly silly but I can sense your determination, plus that mentality has obviously served you well."
A sudden noise brought their attention back towards the viewing stone, where they witnessed a singular warrior left standing in the arena. "Oh he already won his fight, guess that means you are up next Violet."
