Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 318 ’I want to stay with him
[Margaret’s Perspective]
Elizabeth’s tears soaked my clothes, and I gently stroked her hair with a pang of heartache, silently praying to the Moon Goddess.
A few minutes later, a Lycan carrying a refrigerated briefcase hurried over. He first nodded to Donald and me and then pushed open the door and went straight in. I knew he was Benjamin’s lead assistant in the lab.
"It’s going to be alright, the Moon Goddess will bless Anthony," I murmured softly, as if to comfort Elizabeth, and also to bolster my own confidence.
Time quickly passed, and 10 minutes later, Benjamin still hadn’t emerged from the room, but we were joined by a few others.
Seeing Frantz push Armstrong slowly toward us, Elizabeth and I unconsciously frowned. I had no desire to speak with Frantz or Nora, so I pretended not to see them and edged closer to Donald.
"You’re finally awake, Armstrong. How are you feeling now? The doctors here say you must rest in bed. You should go back and lie down!" Elizabeth said to Armstrong, who was also sitting in a wheelchair, her tone anxious.
While speaking, she looked at Frantz and Nora following behind Armstrong, sighed helplessly, and continued, "He doesn’t know the situation here, do you, Dad and Mom? Didn’t I tell you to go rest? Even if you’re worried about this place, you shouldn’t just let Armstrong act recklessly. I’m watching over Anthony; that’s enough. Please take Armstrong back with you!"
Elizabeth spoke in a tone that was far from polite. Donald and I had no intention of intervening, and the atmosphere suddenly became awkward, especially for Frantz, who thought he had a shield by accompanying Armstrong. His unnatural expression was all too evident.
"I’m okay, how is Anthony doing right now?"
In the end, Armstrong took it all upon himself. His voice was weak, but the concern in his eyes when he looked at Elizabeth was much more genuine than Frantz’s.
I wasn’t intentionally discrediting Frantz. I just saw too clearly the selfishness and indifference in his bones. The clearer I saw, the more I felt it unnecessary to waste my energy on him.
Elizabeth repeated Anthony’s situation to Armstrong. Nora, standing nearby, listened with moist eyes. She had, of course, watched Anthony grow up from a child.
Once Armstrong was also informed of the situation here, Donald finally spoke up, "This issue here won’t resolve momentarily. There’s no need to have so many people lingering. Armstrong, your injuries are the most severe; you should go back to your room and rest. I’ll have someone inform you immediately if there’s any news."
Donald said this and turned to look at Frantz and Nora. His expression was unchanged, but his tone was noticeably colder, "You’ve both had a hard day too. You should go rest as well."
Armstrong, always sharp, first glanced at Mr. and Mrs. Frantz, then turned to Donald, responding respectfully, "Thank you, Your Majesty, for your concern. I’ll go back to my room now. If there is any new information about Anthony, I hope Your Majesty can inform me promptly."
Donald nodded, indicating he understood.
Seeing this, Armstrong respectfully nodded and then turned to Elizabeth, "You’re also hurt; come back with me. The Lycan Queen and His Majesty are here."
There was no way Elizabeth would go with Armstrong at that moment. She shook her head and explained, "I need to stay here with Anthony. You go back first, let Mom and Dad go with you."
Upon hearing this, Armstrong momentarily froze, looking at Elizabeth with a complex expression, silently pondering something.
And Frantz, whose gaze was flitting uncertainly, finally found an opening to interject, "With so many doctors and nurses here, why stay? Armstrong is right, you’re also not lightly injured. Go back to the room and rest with him. Don’t make me and your mother worry, okay?"
Nora, at this moment, was also looking at Elizabeth, and suddenly, as if remembering she had another daughter, turned to look at me with an awkward purse of her lips, then said softly, "Margaret, I heard you were also injured today in the hall, weren’t you? How do you feel now? I have some medication for external injuries here, let me take a look for you?"
Hearing Nora’s words of concern, I felt a bit heartbroken. Although Nora was always weak and incompetent, she would still speak up gently and caringly for me, which I found immensely precious.
"My injury is minor; Donald had a doctor attend to it earlier," I answered Nora gently, looking at her concerned face.
Seemingly not expecting my refusal, a look of disappointment appeared on Nora’s face.
I turned my head pretending not to see, and at that moment, Donald gripped my hand tightly as if to lend me some strength. Invisibly, he quickly soothed my emotions. It seemed we had become each other’s indispensable ’Stabilizer’.
In the end, Armstrong couldn’t persuade the stubborn Elizabeth, let alone Frantz and Nora, who always saw Elizabeth as their prized jewel. They stood no chance against the willful Elizabeth.
So, seeing them return ineffectually, their silhouettes cloaked in dejection, I felt a bit amused. This was, in its own way, a case of ’the biter bit’.
