Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 271: Cousin?
[Margaret’s POV]
"Who knows? Haven’t that group of old folks always been like this?"
Henry agreed with Donald’s opinion, his expression calm and even carrying a somewhat cynical smile.
As he spoke, he shifted his gaze from Donald and turned his head to look at me.
I saw a flash of light in his eyes, but before I could comprehend what it signified, he had already begun to speak again.
"Is this beautiful young lady our future Lycan Queen? Your eyes are truly lovely! My name is Henry, Donald’s older cousin by half a month."
Hearing Henry’s compliment and his introduction, I smiled lightly and replied, "Hello, Prince Henry, I am Margaret."
As if unsatisfied with my introduction, Henry raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, looking at me with a teasing tone as he continued, "You can just call me by name, or cousin if you like; there’s no need to be so polite and restrained. I consider myself to be very easygoing, and you can ask Donald about that."
At his words, I nodded gently without saying anything, merely smiling gracefully at him.
After all, this was Henry’s and my first meeting, and in the presence of Donald, there was no need to be overly familiar or intimate—it would be rather strange.
Donald, perhaps not as sensitive and cautious as I am, first glanced at Henry and then humphed lightly, saying, "Margaret is simply being very polite. Do you think everyone is like you, always so overly familiar?"
As he spoke, the laughter in Donald’s eyes was becoming harder to contain, and he seemed to enjoy the relaxed banter with Henry.
"Also, this habit of yours, introducing yourself as my cousin to everyone we meet, when will you truly correct it? I was only born half a month later than you; that doesn’t make you my brother, and I won’t agree to Margaret calling you brother, ha!"
Sitting in his wheelchair, Henry’s face showed extreme helplessness, as if he were already very accustomed to someone’s petulant demeanor!
He smiled lightly, with a calm voice he continued, "Even if I were only older by one minute than you, I would still be your cousin, let alone half a month! That is an indisputable fact, and as a member of the exceedingly distinguished Royal Family and Lycan King, you can’t keep being stubborn and not acknowledging that."
With a smile, Henry looked at me, somewhat helplessly continuing his complaints, "He has been stubborn like this since he was a child. Getting him to call me brother is harder than reaching the heavens! Hahaha."
The Werewolf Prince’s hearty laughter echoed through my hospital room. I gave him a mild smile and then turned to look at Donald without saying much.
"Who’s being stubborn? It’s clearly you who’s always been unreasonable since our childhood, always wanting others to call you brother. What bizarre requests! Utterly childish!" Donald countered Henry’s statement with disapproval and stood up.
He walked over to Henry’s side, pushed him along in his wheelchair, and continued to chatter, "Today is your first meeting with Margaret. In the future, she and I might have many occasions to trouble you, so just make sure not to think about slacking off!"
With the last remark added, Donald then sat down next to Henry, appearing relaxed and pleased.
Upon hearing this, Henry sighed helplessly, glanced at Donald, and responded, "Look at what you’re saying! When have I ever been lazy? Don’t smear my image in front of our sister-in-law; I’m meeting her for the first time today. Leave me with some dignity, will you!"
"Also, with so many capable and astute subordinates by your side, why must you always focus on me? I’m just a leisurely and ineffective prince; can’t you truly let me be free? Right now, I truly don’t want to meddle in any affairs... except for eating, drinking, and having fun!"
Henry said this with a helpless look on his face, adding the last part suddenly.
It seemed Henry was hinting at something, and even I quickly realized what it was, let alone the always sharp and smart Donald. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Donald looked at Henry, the laughter in his eyes fading slightly, and after a long silence, he finally spoke, "Who has been filling your head with nonsense again? I’ve said it long ago, the grievances of the older generation have nothing to do with us! I don’t care what happened in the past; what matters is the bond we’ve had growing up together..."
"That’s always been my belief, and I hope you feel the same. Don’t let the opinions of others affect you. You will always be you, understand?"
