Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Most Pathetic Mistress

Vivian Quincy found his smile unnerving. She couldn’t help but ask, "What are you smiling at, President?"

"Nothing. What did Jeremy King say to you today?" Jasper Ford countered.

Vivian Quincy stole a few glances at Jasper Ford in the rearview mirror. "He didn’t ask anything," she said.

"Heh." He chuckled softly. His gaze, which seemed to see through everything, fell on the scene outside. The streets were bustling with traffic, and the constant stream of cars made the roads of Crestfall extremely congested.

Vivian Quincy’s hands tightened nervously on the steering wheel. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Jasper Ford knew something. She wanted to ask, but the man just kept staring out the window, exuding an unapproachable aura. The intimidating air made her swallow her words every time she tried to speak, and she remained silent until she parked downstairs from her apartment building.

"I’m home. Would you like to come up for a cup of tea, President?" she asked politely, certain he would refuse.

"Okay," the man replied without a hint of hesitation.

Vivian Quincy was suddenly at a loss. ’It’s so late. I’m a single woman; I can’t actually invite a man up to my apartment, can I?’ She thought for a moment, then quickly said, "Um, it’s getting late. You must be exhausted after such a busy day, President. You should head home and get some rest."

"Can’t I rest at your place?" the man asked mischievously, his brilliant, star-like eyes exceptionally captivating.

The smile vanished from Vivian Quincy’s face, her lips twitching. She shook her head firmly. "No."

"Park the car and get out." After issuing the command, Jasper Ford got out of the car himself.

’He has absolutely no intention of leaving!’

Having dug her own grave, Vivian Quincy wanted to slap herself. She regretted ever opening her big mouth to invite the demon king, Jasper Ford.

With him already waiting outside, Vivian Quincy didn’t have the nerve to shoo him away. She could only bite the bullet, park the car, and silently follow him.

"Lead the way," Jasper Ford prompted.

Rooted to the spot, Vivian Quincy took a deep breath. Resigning herself to her fate, she walked ahead without a word.

Although her apartment was in a central location, it was in a twenty-year-old complex. While the grounds seemed decent, it was obvious that the surroundings were quite dated.

Jasper Ford sized the place up as he walked. ’Honestly,’ he thought, ’I wouldn’t live in a place like this even if they paid me.’

’Having been in this industry for so long, I’ve seen it all. People who sleep their way to the top for money, people who seduce their bosses, people who become mistresses... you name it!’

’But a mistress living this pathetically? This is a first.’

"This is where you live?" he couldn’t help but ask. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Vivian Quincy nodded. "Yeah. It’s close to the office, so the commute is convenient. Most importantly, there are a lot of schools nearby."

"You don’t have kids. Why rent a place near schools?" Jasper Ford’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

Vivian Quincy’s heart skipped a beat. Fearing he would see through her, the panic in her eyes vanished in a flash. She mumbled, "Places with lots of schools also have lots of breakfast stalls. The main thing is they’re cheap. The cost of living in Crestfall is too high, and the President is always docking my pay. I could starve to death for all I know."

Jasper Ford raised an eyebrow at her, his expression displeased.

Realizing she had misspoken, Vivian Quincy quickly covered her mouth. "I misspoke. Please don’t hold it against me, President."

Jasper Ford snorted coldly and strode into the elevator on his long legs.

After pressing the floor button, Vivian Quincy retreated to a corner and fell silent. She stared down at her feet, idly tapping one of them.

Jasper Ford noticed her subtle movements. He watched with curiosity, a little amused to see her absent-mindedly fidgeting with her foot. ’She’s a grown woman, and she’s still like this?’

Averting his gaze to glance at the floor number, Jasper Ford said, "Stop staring at your feet. We’re here."

"Oh! Thank you for bringing me home, President. This is far enough; you don’t need to see me to the door." Vivian Quincy stood at her front door, waving at Jasper Ford. She showed no intention of opening it to invite him in, as if he weren’t her boss, but some kind of monster.

Jasper Ford’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he closed in, step by step.

"P-President, what are you doing..." Vivian Quincy backed away in fear until her back hit the wall with a THUMP. She looked up in a panic, her voice trembling.

"Are you that scared of me?" Jasper Ford looked down at her like a lofty emperor.

Vivian Quincy shook her head. "Not at all. You’re a brilliant and powerful president. I’m not scared in the slightest."

"Then why haven’t you opened the door?" he pressed.

Vivian Quincy’s hand clutched her purse, not daring to touch the keys inside. She was truly unnerved by Jasper Ford, especially when he was angry. His innate, chilling aura would wrap around her, suffocating her. That oppressive presence was just like the man from that night...

Trembling uncontrollably, she bit her lip and shook her head. "I’m not opening it."

"Which apartment is it?" Jasper Ford demanded.

Vivian Quincy gestured to the side, but then she recalled that Jasper Ford had seen her personnel file. "Don’t you already know where I live?"

"Hand over the keys." Jasper Ford held out his hand.

Vivian Quincy clutched her purse, shaking her head frantically. "No way! What if you barge in and refuse to leave? My place is tiny; it can’t accommodate a big shot like you. And even though I wouldn’t mind putting you up, it would be bad for your reputation if people found out you were at a subordinate’s house this late at night." She paused, swallowed hard, and added, "So... maybe you should go?"

Jasper Ford was amused by her words. His long fingers gently pinched her chin. "Vivian Quincy, since when does a woman like you care about reputations?"

’Undisguised mockery...’

The girl stiffened, and the color drained from her delicate face.

The man continued, "Right now, I am your boss. I’ll enter your home if I want to. Open the door."

"I’m off the clock. Our professional relationship is over for the day, so I don’t have to listen to you. Besides, this is my home, and I am not letting you in." She was angry now. She stubbornly turned her face away, clutching her purse and refusing to let him near it.

’Quite the act.’

’A pretty convincing one, too.’

’That haughty tone really makes her seem like some innocent maiden. Playing hard to get, huh!’

’This must be the trick she used to snag that punk Hayden Kaye.’

The more Jasper Ford thought about it, the angrier he became. But what irritated him even more was her refusal to open the door. Initially, he’d only wanted to see what kind of place she lived in; he hadn’t actually intended to go inside. But the more she resisted, the more he wanted to see what was in there.

’Maybe she’s hiding something inside?’

Jasper Ford reached out and snatched Vivian Quincy’s purse.

Vivian Quincy cried out in alarm, "What are you doing? Let go!"

Jasper Ford didn’t stop, forcing Vivian Quincy to desperately try and grab her purse back. But how could she possibly be a match for him? He easily lifted it over his head. For a moment, Vivian was stunned by their staggering height difference. Glaring up at the man who towered over her, she jumped for it.

However, she forgot she was wearing high heels!

Just as she leaped, her ankle twisted. She lost her balance and stumbled right into Jasper Ford’s arms.

At the same time, the door to Vivian Quincy’s apartment was opened from the inside, and someone walked out...
