A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 58: You’d Better Stay Away From Him
"What are you two doing?" A clear, questioning voice rang out in the narrow hallway.
Anna, who had come over to Vivian Quincy’s place right after work, had been waiting for half an hour. With nothing to do, she resorted to lying on the sofa with a face mask on. When she heard Vivian’s voice outside, she thought her friend had just forgotten her keys. She never expected to open the door to a scene like this.
’This is way too wild!’
’Out in the open like this, not even inside the apartment, and they’re already wrapped up in each other’s arms, hot and heavy!’
"Uh, I don’t think I should be here. You two carry on, I’ll be right out of your hair." Anna cleared her throat, hurriedly rushing into the room to grab her things and leave.
Vivian Quincy’s cheeks flushed red when she heard her. She quickly explained, "Don’t be ridiculous. It’s not what it looks like."
"It’s okay, Vivian. No need to explain. I get it," Anna said as she started to peel off her face mask.
Vivian Quincy raised her voice to remind her, "This is my boss, Jasper Ford! Stop talking nonsense."
"Boss?" Anna froze. ’Isn’t that the fiancé of that two-faced Wanda Quincy?’
’Damn!’
’Not bad.’
’Vivian actually managed to lure Wanda Quincy’s fiancé to her home. Never would’ve guessed she had it in her!’ 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Anna gave her a thumbs-up. "That’s my Vivian! Since that’s the case, there’s even less reason for me to stick around. I’m leaving right now!" She grabbed her bag and got into the elevator.
Vivian Quincy panicked and ran after her to explain, but the elevator doors had already closed. Vivian looked up with a miserable expression, unhappily questioning Jasper Ford, "Are you happy now?"
The man raised a handsome, sharp eyebrow. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced into the open doorway. Vivian Quincy’s rented apartment wasn’t large; to Jasper Ford, it was practically tiny. A single glance was enough to take in most of it. It was very clean, with few possessions, but everything was clearly for a woman’s use. There seemed to be no trace of a man.
Jasper Ford himself didn’t know why he was looking at these things. Perhaps it was because he had seen Vivian Quincy and Jeremy King getting tangled up in public today, making him assume they met privately as well. But seeing the state of her apartment, a sensual smile touched the corners of Jasper Ford’s lips.
His large palm gripped Vivian Quincy’s wrist. The warm pad of his thumb intermittently rubbed the spot on her inner wrist where another man had touched her. He leaned down, close to the girl’s ear, and whispered, "You’d better stay away from him."
Vivian Quincy stiffened slightly. "Who?"
"You know who I’m talking about." The thumb rubbing her inner wrist pressed down hard. The girl cried out in pain, a soft, unbearable whimper escaping her lips. An inscrutable look clouded Jasper Ford’s eyes.
Vivian Quincy had no idea what she’d done wrong. ’If he means Hayden Kaye, I already explicitly rejected him just like Jasper Ford told me to. Why is he still angry? Could it be...’
"Are you talking about Jeremy King, Mr. Ford? I really have nothing to do with him... Oww... that hurts." Her eyes turned red.
The man’s incomparably handsome face was devoid of any warmth.
Vivian Quincy explained, "I’m telling the truth. He only came to see me today because he wanted to poach me for his company. Even though the huge salary he offered was tempting, I already turned him down flat. Ah, it hurts! Please be gentler, Mr. Ford..."
She couldn’t hold back her tears anymore and begged for mercy, crying.
A bloodthirsty smile played on the wickedly handsome man’s lips. "You dared to be tempted?"
Vivian Quincy frantically shook her head. "I wasn’t tempted! I misspoke! My hand..."
She held up the hand that Jasper Ford had squeezed bright red. The man’s brow furrowed; he hadn’t expected her to be so delicate. He released his grip.
Vivian Quincy let out a sigh of relief. Leaning against the wall as if a great weight had been lifted, she rubbed her wrist and said angrily, "Can we just talk things out without getting physical?"
Jasper Ford shot her a look.
Terrified, Vivian Quincy took a quick step back and hastily corrected herself, "Mr. Ford must have his reasons for his actions. I deserve it."
"Tch," he chuckled lowly. His mood, which had soured because of Jeremy King bothering Vivian Quincy, suddenly improved. His laughter was clear, pleasant, and utterly captivating.
The warm pad of his finger gently brushed across the girl’s thin lips, which were pouted in displeasure. He said in a deep voice, "Now that you’re my assistant, you’re my person. Unless I die, you can forget about ever leaving."
The girl trembled. "Didn’t you say I could leave once the contract is up?"
"You want to leave?" he pressed in a low voice.
Vivian Quincy shook her head like a rattle drum. "No, I don’t want to leave," she said, frightened. ’I’m not an idiot. If I tell Jasper Ford I want to quit to his face right now, I’d just be waiting for him to destroy me!’
"Since you don’t want to leave, then you’ll stay forever." Jasper Ford’s pleasant voice paused for a few seconds as he took in the rapidly changing expressions on Vivian Quincy’s face. He guessed what the little woman was thinking and chuckled. "If you dare to run away without my permission, I’ll break both your legs."
Vivian Quincy’s legs trembled. She shook her head. "I won’t run. I definitely won’t run."
"I’m a bit of a clean freak. Since you’re my assistant, the most basic thing you need to do is keep yourself pure. Starting today, you are not allowed to have any intimate contact with any man." He flung away Vivian Quincy’s left hand—the one Jeremy King had touched—with disgust, his possessiveness on full display.
’Okay, not quitting, Vivian Quincy could understand that. But what does her contact with other men have to do with Jasper Ford? Is he going to control that too?’
"What kind of contact are you referring to, Mr. Ford?" she asked, confused, not quite getting it.
The man’s face darkened. "Are you that desperate to get involved with other men?"
"No... You’re telling me not to have contact with other people, and I can try my best to avoid it, but you have to at least give me a scope, right?" ’Vivian Quincy had no idea about the extent of Jasper Ford’s "cleanliness" obsession. What if I accidentally brush hands with someone, and he decides I’m dirty and just lops my hand off? So I definitely need to know the boundaries so I can take the right precautions.’
She stared at Jasper Ford, her big, confused eyes blinking as she waited for an answer.
Jasper Ford said, "Holding hands, kissing, and... basically anything with any man is forbidden!"
Vivian Quincy: "???" ’What kind of demand is that?’
’She could promise not to get too close to too many people. She could accommodate Jasper Ford. As long as his demands weren’t too unreasonable, she could accept them. But...’
"Mr. Ford, your standards are a bit high," Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but say.
Jasper Ford’s voice suddenly turned menacing. "Say that again!"
Vivian Quincy flinched, but thinking of this unequal treaty, she mustered her courage and explained to Jasper Ford, "I’m just your assistant, Mr. Ford. Logically, I just need to complete the tasks you assign me on time. When you have demands, a subordinate should indeed try their best to meet them. But this isn’t a demand you make of a subordinate; it’s what you’d ask of a girlfriend or a wife. I’m not your girlfriend, so why can’t I hold hands or kiss someone else? What if I fall in love?"
’A person has to have some aspirations in life.’
’The whole reason Vivian Quincy came to Aethel was to find Beanie’s father. If she found him and they hit it off, they might start a family. Even if they didn’t click, Vivian would still have to find another man. After all, Beanie was almost old enough for school, and Vivian couldn’t stay single forever.’
’If she actually agreed to Jasper Ford’s terms, how would she ever find a boyfriend in the future?’
