Why didn’t she say have some ice cream for a boost?

"You sure have rich imaginations," James Black chuckled in a low voice.

"Can I not be a bit imaginative? Do you know? There are no snacks at all in this village! Not even barbecue skewers are available! My entertainment with Senior Young and the others is basically revolving around roasted sweet potatoes!" Jane Sampson lamented, "This is the first time I’ve encountered a small grocery store that doesn’t sell snacks."

After saying that, Jane Sampson laughed with a hehe, "Look how simple my life has been recently, so, when I get back, aren’t you taking me to the supermarket for a stroll?"

James Black raised his eyebrows and chuckled, "You talk as if my life isn’t simple."

"..." Jane Sampson finally realized that James Black truly had a knack for driving a conversation so soberly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

And he was driving it in such a way that caught you off guard.

"Edward Stone mentioned that he’s bringing you some fruits from the town when he went there for errands today, he hung the stuff on your room’s doorknob, you can confidently take it in and eat when you get back." That was the real reason James Black had called Jane Sampson.

As Jane Sampson had said, the village’s small grocery store was one where you couldn’t find any snacks, not even instant noodles, so naturally, fruits were also unavailable.

Today, as Edward Stone went to the town for errands, James Black asked him to bring back some seasonal fruits for Jane Sampson. However, even after mentioning the fruits, James Black decidedly kept it to himself that he had specifically instructed Edward Stone to buy them.

Otherwise, considering Edward Stone’s perennial single-dog status and never having had a wife, he would never think of something like buying fruits.

"Fruits! I was just craving some a couple of days ago!" Jane Sampson’s eyes lit up with joy when she heard about the fruits, "Edward Stone is such a nice guy, we definitely have to treat him to a meal sometime to thank him for looking after me these past days."

James Black hummed a response on the phone, about to speak, but suddenly heard someone calling his wife in the background.

"Jane Sampson."

Mandy Forest appeared behind Jane Sampson at some point, and her interjection startled Jane Sampson considerably.

When she came over, Mandy Forest was sitting over there. She only talked to James Black for a while, but when did Mandy Forest sneak up and stand behind her silently?

"Are you on the phone with James Carter?" Mandy Forest asked in a casual manner.

Jane Sampson looked bewildered, wondering how Mandy Forest could tell she was on a call with James Carter.

"No," Jane Sampson denied, then quickly said to James Black on the phone, "I’ll call you back after I get to my room, hanging up now."

After hanging up, Jane Sampson put away her mobile phone, turned her head, and looked earnestly at Mandy Forest, asking, "Sister Mandy Forest, you seem quite curious about Mr. Carter?"

"Just making conversation," Mandy Forest snorted, "Just a washed-up old singer, who’s curious about him?"

"Mr. Carter is not a washed-up singer at all, and he’s not old in the slightest!" Jane Sampson was an absolute diehard fan of James Carter, so she wouldn’t allow anyone to say anything bad about him!

Mandy Forest gave Jane Sampson a cold look and walked away, the chill on her face lingering for a long time.

Jane Sampson felt utterly baffled and then, seeing that Harry Humming had finished filming and was calling her, she hurried back.

"Brother Cheer will be finishing his scenes soon, and we should head over and get ready," Harry Humming, who was definitely the biggest prankster in the film crew, declared, "Director Wilson said he’s joining us tonight, and I’m worried we won’t have enough roasted sweet potatoes to go around, so we better roast a batch and fill up first.
