CEO's Reborn Wife - Chapter 443 - 451: Making Up for It
"I never expected Sister Mandy Forest, such a famous star, to be so amiable," Elizabeth King said cheerily, "Last night, when we played cards, she didn’t get angry at all even though she lost." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Jane Sampson quietly glanced at Elizabeth King. Honestly, she had no desire whatsoever to know how harmoniously Mandy Forest and Elizabeth were getting along.
On the contrary, it was quite frustrating.
Jane Sampson felt increasingly that Sister Tin might have found her a fake assistant.
She might as well have been her own assistant – it would’ve been less trouble.
Finding an assistant isn’t something you can just do immediately when you wish; hence, Jane Sampson didn’t expect Rock Bell to find her a new one right away. After starting work, although Elizabeth sometimes was hard to find and frequently sidled up to Mandy Forest, Jane Sampson never criticized her for it.
Fortunately, Jane Sampson has always been very independent, and with Shirley Young taking extra care of her – buying water, beverages, and getting meals, which Shirley’s assistant took over entirely – Elizabeth, who wasn’t too concerned, seeing that Jane seemed to need nothing from her, gravitated even more towards Mandy Forest.
However, Jane Sampson hadn’t expected that Elizabeth’s constant running to Mandy Forest would absurdly be perceived by others as Jane Sampson sending her own assistant to persistently hang around Movie Queen Mandy Forest, in an attempt to gain favors by cozying up to her.
Some of the extras even insinuated that it was Mandy Forest’s good nature that kept her from sending Jane Sampson’s assistant packing; otherwise, Jane Sampson would’ve been disgraced.
When Jane Sampson heard such talk, she was simply baffled.
Well then, perhaps that’s just the way this circle works – the more popular and hot you are, the more right you have.
When filming reached the weekend of the first week, Jane Sampson finished early for the day; not even 8 o’clock yet, she had wrapped up. She had plans to roast sweet potatoes with Shirley Young, Harry Humming, and others, so after completing her scenes, she wasn’t in any rush to head home and instead waited for them at the film crew site.
As it was a village without barbecue skewers, roasting sweet potatoes became the newest stress-reliever everyone found.
Harry Humming bought a basket of sweet potatoes from the villagers and would call people out to roast some every few days.
Her mobile phone rang just as Mandy Forest was taking a break. It was unclear whether it was by chance or intentional, but she chose to sit right next to Jane Sampson.
These past few days, it seemed that Jane Sampson and Mandy Forest had arrived at an unspoken understanding: the two barely exchanged a word.
Seeing Mandy Forest sitting next to her, Jane was worried that sitting together in silence could get awkward. But when her phone rang, she grasped it like a lifeline.
"Hello," Jane Sampson answered quickly, not even checking who the caller was before picking up.
From an outsider’s perspective, her behavior looked rather eager.
"Still busy?" James Black inquired upon hearing the background noise in Jane Sampson’s phone, "Have you been very busy this week?"
"Every day is packed with scenes, so yes, a bit busy," Jane Sampson replied, a bit surprised by James Black’s sudden phone call. Glancing at Mandy Forest beside her, she casually walked away while talking on the phone.
Once she was at a safe distance, Jane Sampson added, "I’ve practically worked myself thin, so when I get home, can I treat myself to an extra couple of bags of potato chips to make up for it?"
This might’ve been the funniest joke that James Black had heard in his whole life.
