THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS - Chapter 202: Saving Life Is More Important
Eleanor’s words were so hilarious that both mother and son burst out laughing.
"I’m sure he will understand my dear. I would have loved to see how the dignified guest would almost be bowing to our little Eleanor as she hangs the garlands on his neck," Kathleen said regretfully.
"Of course you will be there mommy. The school has prepared a special seat for all the parents, so you will see everything that is going on from there."
"I’m sorry, sweetheart, but I might not be able to make it to your school tomorrow."
"What are you saying mommy?" Eleanor’s slender brow puckered in a frown. "You have to come. All the other parents will be there."
With an apologetic smile Kathleen said, "I’m afraid there’s an important operation that I have to be part of slated for tomorrow. It will last for a very long time and the time scheduled for the operation happens to fall within the time of your sports event, so it will be difficult for me to make it," she patiently explained.
Disappointed, Eleanor’s head dropped as she mumbled a pathetic, "Oh."
Kathleen’s heart ached at Eleanor’s sad countenance.
"Babies, can you forgive mummy, this time again? I feel so bad for not being there for you guys when you need me, but I promise to make it up to you after my work is done tomorrow."
"We understand, mummy, you don’t need to feel bad," Elvis, the more rational and dependable one among the two when it comes to situations like this, spoke up.
"Saving lives is more important and we are not angry with you. It’s just that it would have been so nice seeing you among other parents during our various presentations."
The children have learnt to understand over the years, that between their personal pleasure and their mother’s job, saving lives was more important and have had to sacrifice on several occasion so that a family’s joy is not broken forever from losing a loved one because of their own selfishness.
He held his sister’s drooped shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
Seeing the interaction between the two children as they comforted each other, Kathleen felt more sad and guilty.
She wasn’t comfortable with their matured behavior. "I have to come up with a solution fast," she thought.
In the past when they were still in Luxembourg, her mom would always cover up for her absence and the children never felt this bad, but she was millions of miles away from Baltimore.
If she had known earlier, she would have made arrangements for her to fly down.
As she brooded on the issue, she suddenly remembered that Jason has still not gone back.
"Ok guys, guess what?"
"Are you gonna cancel the operation mommy and come to our school?" Eleanor asked, with a glimmer of hope.
"No, darling." As she noticed the light dim from Eleanor’s eyes again, she quickly added, "Why don’t we get your uncle and aunt to go with you?"
"Uncle Jason?" chorused the two children.
"Mm-hmm."
"That would be nice, mummy," Eleanor chimed but then the frown returned again.
"But uncle Jason is always very busy. Even Aunt Cheryl is already fed up with him. How can we get him to come?"
"Leave it to me. All we have to do is ask him nicely," Kathleen said with a mischievous smile on her face.
You can be sure that If Jason were to be driving with them in the car at that moment he would have felt a headache coming.
However, he still sneezed pitifully in his office while trying to wrap things up for the day at Wyatt Corporations.
Cheryl, who was sitting opposite him and waiting for him to finish his work so that she could bundle him off to dinner, stood up to pour him a glass of water.
"It’s not water I need," Jason said but still received the glass from Cheryl.
"I’m sure someone with an evil intention is plotting against me somewhere. But I assure them that they will not succeed."
Cheryl couldn’t help but find it funny. "When have you become so superstitious? It is just a sign that you need a break. Come on, pack up and let’s go before you die of hunger."
"Are you that impatient to have me all to yourself?" teased Jason.
"Tsk! Don’t flatter yourself Mister. Who wants you all to herself?" Cheryl retorted with a smirk. "I’m only looking out for you."
"It’s still good to know you care so much about me."
"I wouldn’t call that caring for you. I just don’t want to be held responsible for not fulfilling my duties as your girlfriend."
Jason’s heart warmed up at the beautiful woman who was clearly concerned about him but putting up an act not to care.
"Talking about fulfilling your duties, there are so many you have quite neglected though."
Pretending not to understand what he was talking about, Cheryl quirked an eyebrow. "I don’t seem to remember any."
"Well I’m not in a hurry. I can use the entire night to remind you one by one if you don’t mind," Jason teased.
"I don’t know what you are talking about."
While he was speaking he was already standing beside Cheryl and she felt a hot sensation spread throughout her body, her flushed face exposing her little lie.
She hated herself for always turning into a puddle each time Jason switches his mood to the one he was currently displaying.
"Are you sure you still don’t know what I’m talking about?" Jason’s hot breath tickled her nerves, evoking the most primitive desires she could never admit to feel.
He slowly grabbed a handful of her dark lustrous hair that cascaded down her shoulder, pushed it aside, revealing her attractive supple swan-like neck.
His actions were gentle and sensual, causing Cheryl to unconsciously hold her breath.
"How about I nudge your memory a little with this." His words were immediately followed by the tip of his tongue running a pattern along her slender neck.
