THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS - Chapter 144: Boss, You Are Trending.
Cheryl looked away from the pathetic family. They didn’t deserve her pity, so there was no need wasting it on them.
If only people will learn that it doesn’t pay to plot against another and strive to live in peace, what a better place the world would be.
But thank goodness she has found a better alternative to the unknown wickedness in the human heart with the Wyatt’s family where she could actually relax her guard and be who she truly was.
A cunning smile formed at the corners of her lips as she approached Kathleen.
"Can we go now?" she asked with something Kathleen recognized as a mischievous smile.
She threw her a warning glare to which Cheryl raised her hands in mock surrender but didn’t fail to add, "I’m innocent of all the charges you want to level against me."
She took a deep breath and exhaled. ’Could my life be any less dramatic with all these kinds of people around me?’
’First it was Shawn, now Cheryl. What am I ever going to do with them?’ she lamented inwardly.
By the time she remembered that she wanted to see Spider, he had long been escorted out of the courtroom.
This is all Shawn’s doing. If he had not interfered, she was sure she would have been able to handle Mrs Beazell in time to speak with Spider.
She cursed him in her heart as she remembered the supposed help he had claimed to offer her when he was clearly taking advantage of her.
’I will get back at him,’ she promised herself.
"A penny for your thought, beautiful madam," Cheryl nudged Kathleen who was absentmindedly walking beside her.
"My thoughts are not that cheap," Kathleen retorted.
"I hope your thoughts are not only about how mesmerizing that fine gentleman is, because you will soon need to explain to the reporters the sparks between you two."
Kathleen opened her mouth to fire back a retort but they had already arrived outside the courthouse where a sea of reporters were waiting.
She had never felt the urge to be a superhuman and suddenly disappear without trace the way she did now. She was drained of all energy when facing such a crowd.
Without being told, she knew the nature of the question they were going to fling at her.
She looked at Cheryl for help and the latter gave her a "you owe me one" glance before facing the reporters naturally.
"Ms Moore, we want to congratulate you for yet another victory."
She smiled a "thank you" before saying,
"It was as clear as daylight from the beginning what the result would be, but I’m still happy that the perpetrators of evil in our society once again, did not escape the hands of the law."
"Do you think Mrs Beazell will make an appeal for a second hearing?" another reporter asked.
"The final judgment has been given and it will be a total waste of time and effort to seek for a second hearing.
"But if they want to do so, I don’t mind humoring them, because whatever they do, the result will always be the same. The evidence was clear enough." Cheryl answered confidently.
Another reporter stepped forward and faced Kathleen.
"At the end of the court session today a rather interesting plot twist took place, is there anything we need to know, Ms Crawford?"
Cheryl instantly came to her rescue just when Kathleen was thinking of how to dodge the question.
"That is strictly a personal matter which I am sure my client is not ready to talk about now, seeing how emotionally drained she had been all these weeks due to what she had to go through from her assailants."
"So if you don’t mind, I will kindly request that she be spared for now. Whatever you need to know will be communicated to you in the not too distant future," she explained flawlessly.
Her refusal was so nicely done that it was difficult to insist on questioning Kathleen further.
"We also wish her a good rest but...,"
"That will be all for now. Thank you for your understanding."
The body guards who had been sent by the Wyatts cleared the way for them and they were safely escorted into Cheryl’s waiting car.
From a black Lamborghini, a handsome face observed the whole scene from his tinted glass and when he saw Kathleen safely seated in the car, he drove off.
Just as he was about to give the driver his next destination, a beep on his phone signaled the arrival of a message and he clicked on it.
"Boss, you are trending," was the brief message he got from his assistant.
He had expected it but he didn’t think they would be so fast in taking action.
Social media was never his thing but ever since he got to know about the trending topics about Kathleen and Mrs Beazell he had been more of a frequent guest.
He swiped his phone to google search and sure enough there was news about the court hearing.
Even before everyone left the court house, the events of that morning had started making the rounds on all social media platforms.
Among all the captivating headlines, the only one that caught Shawn’s attention was the article on what transpired after the court session.
"Our handsome President seems to have been taken."
Underneath was an elaborate picture of him holding Kathleen in his hands. From the angle it was taken, Kathleen was looking at him with a love struck expression as if she couldn’t get enough of him, while his own gaze was disarmingly affectionate and caring.
A smile blossomed on his face as he saw how they looked together. They were like puzzle pieces fitting perfectly together.
"Drive," he instructed his driver.
"Where to sir?" There was no specific destination attached to the order so the driver could only ask.
"Wyatt’s Corporations." ’It is time to put my next plan into action,’ he muttered to himself.
