The Anomaly Beyond The System
Chapter 82: Made for each other(3)
Chapter 82: Made for each other(3)
Lucian looked at both of them for a while, his presence quiet yet slightly suffocating to the two trembling figures before him, who were clutching each other.
Escaping from this place, where monsters were currently roaming, it wasn’t a bad idea.
From their perspective—
It made sense.
Rather than staying in one place, waiting, while listening to the distant screams, while imagining monsters breaking into their houses at any moment.
Rather than that, it would be better to run away, reach somewhere safer—
It wasn’t an unreasonable decision.
Only if the other places were safe, which wasn’t really the case anymore.
The world itself had changed. The danger wasn’t limited to one street or two.
But of course—
How could both of these people know that?
Lucian couldn’t help but feel that it was a stupid idea.
Not because they were wrong in their decision, but because of how they chose to act on that decision.
First of all, there were monsters roaming right now.
That alone should’ve been enough to keep anyone inside, and just because they didn’t hear a sound didn’t mean those monsters had vanished.
Also, it would be even more difficult to navigate in the dark, where even the street lights hadn’t been switched on for some reason.
Lucian thought of something for a second, and slowly, a small smile appeared on his face.
The smile on his lips went unnoticed by the couple over his mask, who were getting more and more scared at his heavy silence, which was pressing down on them.
“S–Sir?” Kyle muttered hesitantly.
His voice came out weak, uncertain. He tried his best to keep a good image before Lucian, even calling him Sir, just so he would spare him.
Lucian’s eyes snapped at him.
Kyle’s breath caught instantly, as he shut his mouth mid-motion.
He couldn’t see clearly, only Lucian’s dark black eyes and a part of his upper face, and even that was difficult to see clearly in the darkness.
“You said you would give me anything, right?” Lucian asked lightly, his voice unhurried and calm.
Kyle stilled for a moment.
He had just said that on a whim, but not wanting to make Lucian annoyed, he instantly bobbed his head up and down, stammering.
“Y–Yes, anything I can give you. Please just leave me alone.”
His words intrigued Lucian slightly.
He couldn’t help but notice the choice of words the man used.
He didn’t say leave ‘us’ alone. His words clearly implied he was just asking for himself.
Even in his fear—
Even in the situation of desperation—
His priority was clearly visible.
Lucian’s eyes narrowed slightly, and his lips curled in disgust beneath the mask.
But he remained calm. His expression didn’t change outwardly.
“So…” Lucian leaned forward slightly, making his upper face slightly more visible to them.
“You wouldn’t mind if I ask for the woman beside you, right?”
Kyle, along with Mia, froze.
“W-What?!” she finally muttered, finally talking after all this time.
Her voice came out faint, confused.
For a moment, she didn’t understand anything before the words settled in her mind.
Her chest tightened in disgust at the man before her, along with something else.
Fear.
But before she could say anything further—
“Okay.”
Kyle spoke after a moment of silence.
Mia froze.
Her head snapped toward him.
Her eyes widened.
“K–Kyle, what are you saying?”
Kyle’s eyes dropped slightly, but seeing the blood dripping from Lucian’s blade, he swallowed.
“Mia, please do this for me,” he said softly.
“We both—”
Before he could try to console her—
Mia’s hand shot up at him.
SLAP.
His head snapped to the side as a sharp, stinging pain spread across his cheek.
“What the fuck are you talking about!” Mia screamed, making him flinch.
But he didn’t look at her.
His gaze flicked toward Lucian, hoping for him to leave him alone, even id it meant taking his wife away.
He wanted to survive, and even though it was a disappointment, he had to do it.
“Pft…”
Both of their eyes snapped at Lucian at the same time, seeing him holding a hand over his mouth, as his shoulders stifled slightly.
‘He really did it.’ Lucian thought, amused as well as… disappointed, before straightening his posture slowly.
He had said those words for a reason. Because he wanted to test the man, to see if he would truly make such a stupid decision.
And he did.
Without even thinking for less than a minute.
Lucian’s eyes flickered toward the woman, who flinched slightly when she felt his gaze landing on her.
Her body stiffened for a brief moment, before her shoulders slumped slightly, as if she had already accepted her fate.
“Get lost,” Lucian said suddenly, his voice cold and flat.
“”Huh?””
Both of them were confused.
They didn’t understand his words for a moment, before Kyle’s eyes brightened slightly.
“Th–Then are you—” Kyle stammered, looking at his wife for a brief second before he stood up.
But before he could move—
“Both of you.”
Lucian said again, this time sharper.
He was getting annoyed… and even more disgusted than before, seeing that Kyle was already getting ready to leave his wife.
Mia lifted her head as her eyes lit up in surprise.
“The monsters will arrive anytime. So get to a safe spot while you can.”
Kyle froze.
“So… what you…” He didn’t complete his words as his voice trailed off again, slightly uncertain.
Lucian nodded.
“I was lying.”
He pasued for a brief moment.
Then—
“Now get lost.”
Saying that, he turned away from them and walked towards the dead creature, as if they no longer existed.
Mia sighed in relief.
For a second, she had thought that she would just have to live her life as that man’s toy.
That she would lose everything.
But thankfully, that hadn’t happened.
She stood up from her spot as she looked at her husband with a disgusted look, filled with scorn and ridicule.
Kyle’s face burned suddenly.
His throat tightened. His chest felt suddenly heavy.
He had just begged before the man, had just sold his wife’s body to some stranger—to save himself.
He had done it to survive.
To see another day.
But now?
