The Anomaly Beyond The System

Chapter 83: Made for each other(4)
‘I was lying.’
Lucian’s words echoed inside his head, repeating again and again.
He gritted his teeth as he felt his face burn even harder.
With embarrassment, and most of all… humiliation.
Mia was about to drag him away.
Despite whatever he did just now, he was still her husband.
And she didn’t have any other man who could protect her.
Kyle was her only option right now.
Her gaze flickered to Lucian’s back for a second.
A fleeting thought crossed her mind.
‘If he could protect me, then I wouldn’t…’
Her thoughts slightly trailed off.
She couldn’t see Lucian’s face very clearly, since it was hidden in the darkness and obscured by his black clothing.
But earlier—
When he had leaned closer, she had seen his upper face slightly, his dark, cold black eyes.
And for a second, the disgust she had felt changed to something else.
But before she could think further—
“Hey!!!”
The sudden shout brought her back from her thoughts.
Her head snapped towards Kyle, who was trembling.
Not from fear, but from shame.
Lucian stopped midstep.
He slowly turned around, tilting his head slightly.
‘Is he talking to me?’ he wondered.
Kyle slowly took a step forward.
“W-What do you think you were doing just now?!” he shouted, his face filled with anger as his eyes burned.
Lucian had humiliated him.
In front of his wife.
Reducing him to something pathetic.
Lucian didn’t say anything, not clearly understanding what he meant by that, or maybe he did and just didn’t care much.
But Kyle—
He took his silence as mockery.
His jaw clenched tightly.
“Don’t you dare mock me! Just because you killed a stupid mutt like that, you think you are some hotshot?!”
His voice echoed through the empty street.
[He’ll just attract more monsters like this.] Akasha said in Lucian’s mind.
She was somewhat enjoying the drama Lucian had just created.
She couldn’t understand why Lucian had done this, why he had asked the man for his wife, only to send them off.
But she could faintly feel his emotions.
And what she could feel was amusement, annoyance… and disgust.
Lucian nodded slowly, agreeing with her words.
The man before him was shouting, which might just attract more monsters.
For a second, he even wondered if he should’ve just let the canine kill them both.
He tried to use his analysis on them both.
But the moment he did—
A small red screen appeared before him.
[Analysis failed.]
[The target cannot be analysed.]
[The individual isn’t awakened.]
Lucian’s eyes lingered on it for a brief moment, before it disappeared.
Kyle, on the other hand, seeing Lucian nod—something that he had just done while hearing Akasha’s words—finally snapped.
“You moth—” Kyle stepped forward suddenly, wanting to beat up the man.
His anger had overtaken his fear right now.
He didn’t even care if Lucian had killed the monster.
He didn’t know how, but he just thought that it was a fluke.
‘If I had a weapon, I could kill it too.’
That was what he thought.
But before he could complete his words—
He stopped.
No—
His legs trembled violently as a suffocating pressure fell over him.
Mia’s eyes widened as she felt it too.
Both of their bodies lowered slightly, their spines bending against their will, their knees trembling as they collapsed on the ground, like a heavy weight was pressing over their backs.
Both of their hearts clenched, their breathing grew ragged, uneven as an overwhelming fear gripped their hearts.
Every emotion they were feeling right now was replaced by only one.
Fear.
Everything else was crumpled under that pressure.
“You are annoying.”
Lucian stepped forward, seeing them lower their heads despite their wishes.
[Suppression Intent]
That was the skill he was using.
It allowed him to suppress the ones weaker than him—not physically, but mentally—and right now, he wasn’t even using it at its full capacity.
He just activated it for five seconds, nothing more than that.
The pressure on them vanished, removing the restraints on their bodies.
Their bodies relaxed slightly, feeling the weight vanish… but the fear still lingered.
Slowly, carefully, they raised their heads.
The moment Kyle raised his head, he looked at Lucian, who had crouched right before him.
“Hiiiik!!”
He flinched violently as he dragged himself back.
He gripped Mia’s arm instinctively.
Lucian, seeing that, slowly stood up, feeling kind of disappointed.
The man was truly a coward. Even the woman—she was the same.
He shook his head slightly.
“Get lost.” He repeated it again, this time his voice heavier than before.
This time it wasn’t a suggestion, but an order.
The fear lingering inside them hadn’t vanished yet.
Both of them quickly nodded their heads as they stood up abruptly.
“Thank you,” Mia muttered.
Even though she felt too much fear, Lucian had saved their lives.
Her eyes lingered over him for a bit longer, despite the uneasiness she was feeling.
Quickly, both of them ran away.
Where were they running?
Lucian didn’t care.
[Why did you do that?] Akasha asked curiously, seeing him turn away, before walking towards the dead creature again.
“I just wanted to see if the man was loyal. He had just thrown his wife before a monster.”
He paused for a brief moment.
“But I thought it was just a stupid mistake. So I wanted to check it myself.”
[And what did you find?]
He bent over to the big dog’s body.
“Disappointment,” Lucian muttered flatly, letting out a loud sigh.
“Both of them were disappointments.”
He thought for a second.
“But I did it for another reason too,” he said suddenly.
[And what’s that?]
“I wanted the woman to know what kind of husband she has.”
He looked to the side, hearing faint, distant howls again.
“Now, if both of them survive or not? It doesn’t matter to me.”
[Hmm.] Akasha hummed softly.
Even she agreed with his words.
But she knew something else, too.
Something he seemed to have missed.
It wasn’t just the man who was not loyal to her.
The woman was—𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
She wasn’t innocent either.
How could Akasha not see the flickering of her emotions as she looked at Lucian after a while?
But of course, she didn’t tell Lucian anything.
[Both of them were made for each other.]
“What?”
[Nothing.]
