Relentless Pursuit After Divorce - Chapter 1888: Summer Hall Side Story (90)
But though she was testing the waters, she didn’t dare act recklessly. She quickly stood up and said:
"Harry, what are you talking about? It was my fault for speaking out of turn, and it’s right for Mom to scold me. Please don’t say anything more."
Thomas was in such pain that cold sweat broke out, but besides Olivia, no one stepped forward to plead for him. Instead, they looked at him with cold expressions.
Harry did not continue. He easily loosened Thomas’s fingers, as if what just happened was a harmless farce.
"Dad, Mom, Edward, please have some coffee."
On the tray were just five coffee cups, only for Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Edward, besides Helen Melendy and her husband, leaving no share for Thomas and Olivia.
Such blatant disregard brought nothing but overwhelming humiliation to Thomas and Olivia.
He sat next to Helen with a warm smile, but beneath his deep eyes, waves surged.
He slowly cast his gaze toward Olivia, who wanted to cause trouble but lacked the courage. The hidden storm in his eyes made Olivia shiver suddenly.
"This unknown lady..."
"What do you mean unknown, she’s Olivia, my sister."
Thomas couldn’t stand it and directly interrupted Harry.
However, Harry just smiled and asked innocently:
"Is she still a Smith now?"
His question was like a bolt from the blue, crashing directly onto Thomas and Olivia’s heads.
Whether Olivia can still bear the Smith name now entirely depended on the few heads of the Smith Family, and it had nothing to do with Thomas or Olivia themselves.
In fact, their flattery of Helen Melendy now might mean that with just a word from her, Olivia’s status as the Smith family’s eldest daughter could not be preserved.
Thomas and Olivia’s faces went through several changes. They glared with wide eyes and grit their teeth at Harry’s still warm smile, struggling to muster a few words to refute him, but they couldn’t say a single word. In the end, Thomas could only sit down in a huff, his face flushed, not sure if from shame or anger.
Harry ignored her and looked at Olivia, saying:
"We don’t have a maid because I like to have some alone time with my wife and don’t want outsiders disturbing our life. As for housework, we have part-time help. What the part-time help doesn’t do, I will handle myself. I would never let my wife be worn out. I wonder if you’re satisfied with this explanation?"
Harry was speaking to Olivia, but he was also explaining to Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
These were his father-in-law and mother-in-law, whom he didn’t want to misunderstand him.
Olivia’s complexion was now extremely pale, as if this whole family was slapping her across the face, leaving her nowhere to hide in shame.
After Harry finished speaking, he wasn’t interested in hearing her response, so he withdrew his gaze.
What was initially a pleasant first meeting was now a bit spoilt by these two clueless individuals.
Helen Melendy passed the coffee from the tray to Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Edward, just like her husband, directly ignoring these two troublemakers.
"Dad, Mom, Edward, please enjoy the coffee. There’s no need to be upset over such a trivial matter. The way my husband and I interact, how could an outsider possibly understand? It’s understandable if they say something wrong."
Helen’s words seemed to be defending Olivia, but the term "outsider" truly dealt Olivia the harshest blow.
If there was anything Olivia dreaded or feared most at this moment, it was being considered an outsider by the Smith family.
