Relentless Pursuit After Divorce - Chapter 1887: Summer Hall Side Story (89)
As she spoke, her eyes fell on Helen Melendy’s legs, which were difficult to move, with a glint of malice in her eyes.
"Your legs are inconvenient now, you can’t even take care of yourself, and with your brother-in-law being busy with work, the household chores will definitely fall on you. Hiring a maid isn’t expensive, your brother-in-law is too stingy. Is he really willing to let you be so exhausted?"
Olivia’s words sounded like she was standing up for Helen Melendy, but they clearly had some intention of sowing discord in their marriage.
Furthermore, she mentioned her inconvenient legs right in front of the Smith Family, as if afraid others wouldn’t notice her malice.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn’t pay attention to whether Harry Hall hired a maid or not; having broad experiences and lived for most of their lives, they possess the basic judgment about people.
They know how Harry Hall treats his daughter well enough, not something that can be judged by hiring a maid.
What they were more attentive to was Olivia’s deliberate mention of Helen Melendy’s legs.
For a beautiful and young girl, being disabled is not something easily accepted.
In such joyful reunion moments, Olivia mentioned nothing but Helen’s legs, making people who don’t know better think she was standing up for Helen Melendy.
But they could tell that she was intentionally provoking discomfort.
Helen Melendy’s expression did not change, but Evelyn Taylor immediately scolded:
"If you can’t speak properly then shut up; no one’s forcing you to speak. Since your studies aren’t good, you can’t even speak well?"
Olivia was scolded right in front of Helen Melendy by Evelyn, her eyes reddened in grievance as she trembled and explained:
"Mom, I...I was just feeling bad for my sister; the family doesn’t hire a maid, should my sister be doing all the chores? Don’t you feel bad for her?"
She described herself as being infinitely wronged, but without keen observation, her hidden malice was indeed hard to see.
Thomas Smith was already fuming, seeing his kind sister being misunderstood and scolded publicly by their mother, he couldn’t sit still.
Disregarding whether he was a guest or not, he angrily stood from the couch and shouted:
"Mom, can you not be so biased? Even if you want to favor the biological daughter, you can’t treat Olivia like this. Did Olivia say anything wrong? There’s nothing wrong with feeling bad that Helen Melendy isn’t being cared for, right?"
After speaking, still feeling dissatisfied, he pointed at Helen Melendy and continued:
"Now this woman hasn’t even been recognized back into the family, yet she’s causing turmoil. Who knows what will happen when she’s recognized? She...ah!!"
Before Thomas could finish his sentence, the fingers pointing at Helen Melendy were forcefully pinched and moved aside.
His face contorted in pain as he turned to see Harry Hall holding a tray of coffee with one hand and pinching Thomas’s finger with two fingers of the other hand. Though smiling at the mouth, his eyes harbored a terrifying storm; seemed like applying just a bit more force, and Thomas’s finger would be snapped.
"Second Young Master Smith, as the Family’s Young Master, can’t you even manage the basic courtesy of being a person?"
Despite his smiling and gentle tone, the aura Harry exuded made Thomas and Olivia shudder fiercely.
Olivia relied on having Thomas, her brainless brother, who would protect her at any moment, which is why she dared to risk being kicked out of the Smith Family, testing the limits repeatedly.
