Chapter 321: Caught Snooping (Ch.321)

It did not take all that long for Neveah to find her way to the library in the first tower.

All that had been needed was to follow closely the distinct smell of books, and after a while of walking, Neveah now stood before the large wooden double doors she knew lead to the library.

’He did mention we were to request the volumes from the elders.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded.

"Would you reckon we return to seek Master Maloway’s consent?" Neveah asked back.

Neveah’s wolf grunted quietly in a manner Neveah knew meant her wolf was not all that concerned with propriety.

"I thought so." Neveah said with a quiet chuckle, reaching out to push open the doors.

The heavy wooden doors creaked open, and Neveah stepped into the massive library, momentarily stunned by the sight before her.

The room was cavernous, with towering bookshelves lining the walls and stretching up to the high, vaulted ceiling.

The air was thick with the musty scent of old parchment and leather, and there was no other sound to be heard but that of Neveah’s footsteps as she took a step further into the library.

The library of the rider’s academy was huge and extremely well equipped with hundreds of books already in sight at first glance.

If even the study and rooms Neveah had visited in the dragon keep had so much books, Nevaah was not at all surprised to find the library like this.

If there was one thing Nevaah had come to realise about dragons, then it was the fact that they loved keeping records of history.

Scrolls, books and large volumes were abundant in sight and after a glance around, Neveah realized why she had been instructed to seek help from an elder...it would be impossible to sort through these volumes herself.

Neveah breathed a sigh as she pushed the door shut, the thought of the great search ahead did not deter her, she had nothing to do with all the time she was allowed either ways.

Neveah’s footsteps echoed throughout the hall as she made her way forward, her gaze flickering over the countless tomes that filled the shelves.

The library was dimly lit up with encased torches lining the walls, a closer look revealed they were not torches at all but small glowing orbs massed together to give off such bright glows and a fast spreading warmth.

It was quite different from the chill Neveah had grown used to, exuded from every hall built of dragon stone, much like the library was.

Neveah had concluded dragon stone had an innate cold aura, but now, she was not so sure the chills of the keep had anything to do with dragon stone at all.

"Magic..." Neveah murmured to herself, it was something she still could not get used to.

It was a delight to find so many books in one place, the shelves were endless and a small smile played on Neveah’s lips as she decided this would be her favourite place in the academy.

Neveah walked over to the nearest shelf, she reached out to run her fingers over the spines of the books, feeling a rare thrill of excitement.

The one thing Neveah had loved about the eclipse domain and the only thing if Neveah was being honest was the library... though even then, she was only allowed access to books her father saw fitting for her to study.

Neveah peered closer at the books on the shelf, some of the titles she could recognize while most of them were in a language she didn’t recognize,

"Dragon tongue?" Neveah pondered aloud, she had always wondered if in the times before the uprising, the dragon kind had their own distinct language.

The werewolves had the ancient wolven tongue and most races did too, it was only that the common tongue was now predominant in the supernatural realm.

Moving further into the library, Neveah paused occasionally to take in the intricate carvings that adorned the bookshelves and the ornate columns that supported the ceiling.

She passed by several reading tables, some of them still had parchments spread open on them while others had obviously not been used for a time since a thin layer of dust coated them.

"Trolls...where would they store the volumes?" Neveah wondered aloud as she studied the books on the shelves.

Moving over to the next when she realised she could hardly recognize any of the books on the first shelves that had caught her attention.

"What might yer be seeking, snooping around in here lassie?" A voice asked from right behind Neveah, startling her.

Neveah glanced over her shoulder but found no one and just when she was to begin wondering, her gaze moved downwards and Neveah found herself staring right down at a mean faced miniscule human.

With a bushy beard, tattered clothing, extremely strange accent and that narrowed mean gaze, Neveah knew without a doubt that she was staring at a dwarf.

"I...well, I need a book." Neveah replied to the dwarf’s impatient gaze, shaking off her momentary surprise.

"Yer do not search the library before seeking out the librarian. Tis should be done in the opposite order." The dwarf pointed out, still glaring at Neveah.

Neveah lifted both hands up in surrender and stepped away from the shelf.

"I did not know there would be anyone in here at this time, my apologies." Neveah offered.

The dwarf grunted in response, shoving past Neveah to stand between her and the shelf.

Without needing to be told, Neveah retreated a few more steps to assure the dwarf she met no harm, though it seemed between the both of them, it was the dwarf who meant harm. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"I am Lady Neveah of Ruby scales, Sir and I seek a volume on troll golems, might I be allowed to continue?" Neveah tried again when the dwarf just glared on in silence.

"The lady of Ruby scales?!" The dwarf asked in surprise, his countenance changing immediately as a large smile found it’s way to his lips.
